New thread here!

OP posts:
notyummy · 01/07/2011 07:39

Hmm. Just reread that post. Was not implying that:

A. All private schools are bad or...

B. That the school you are referring to is a private school.

Just that Joules is 'associated' with that social grouping round here.

petitdonkey · 01/07/2011 07:50

Amber - good luck!! My friend that I visited the other day was induced yesterday but I haven't heard anything yet. Today is a good day to have a baby - my 5lb4 baby boy is 7 today and I can't quite believe it!! (And we're bunking off school in order to take his new bike to the beach and avoid uber-competitive swimming gala Blush

ABO - I would go with a very tight pencil skirt and stilettos and use that as a reason to claim you can't race!! No Mum's race at our school so I just wore Agnes, flat glads and a pain slouchy T.

NY - My children are at an independent school and you're not wrong on the Joules front Grin

Emo76 · 01/07/2011 07:56

Bloss I don;t think so, hers had a frill at the back if I recall corrrectly

ABO oh gosh, a mothers race, my worst nightmare! I'm with petit, wear spiky heels so you don't have to join in?!

everything love your updates - such a shame about the bag, it looked so promising

NY don't worry, this isn't AIBU.....!!

Went to the 20.20 cricket last night at the Oval - really nice impromptu evening out with colleagues. Crowd had plenty of suits in it so didn't feel overdressed - just a great atmosphere and a few glasses of pimms...!

mrsCB Heidi Klein bikini has arrived - trying on later - off on hols in 2 weeks and beginning to panic...

AllBuggiedOut · 01/07/2011 08:07

It is round here too ny Grin. What did you wear on your botton half?

I am hoping the races will be of the novelty kind (ie egg-and-spoon or similar) rather than full-on running which I clearly can't do (a) in normal cloths and (b) without having emptied my bladder immediately before blushes

Liking the pencil skirt option...

pickledsiblings · 01/07/2011 08:46

ABO, I say go with some kind of trousers - we once had to race with a balloon between our legs Grin.

Petit, happy birthday to your DS. I have a 7 year old boy - they are lovely Smile.

Ollie, hope you are getting on well with the thesis reading.

Bloss, is your MIL going to be helping out more when you are working? That could be fun - maybe at least then she'll feel motivated to do something for you about the house.

Shortlisting happening today for KS1 job - arrrgh. Why can't I just resign myself to the life of a SAHM???

Ambernj1 · 01/07/2011 08:59

Thanks ladies - have a sweep this afternoon so hopefully that will get things going! Otherwise I am promising myself a trip to Westfield on Tuesday (ostensibly to get wooden letters for DD's door to match DS's!)

There has been a bit of talk about the Reiss Minna on here, but has anyone got the Freya - quite fancy it as I don't really 'do' long sleeves! Also fancying those Zara capris - shame the navy is sold out, may check out instore!

notyummy · 01/07/2011 09:00

I wore shorts ABO.

blossoming · 01/07/2011 09:30

Zara capris: bought 12, wear 29 j brand, but they do give.

Two deliveries here. My Alexa, and my huge Boden sale order, for the children. Alexa is a 24 carat keeper, can't really be bothered to look at Boden stuff, too busy gazing at me and Alexa in the mirror.

PlumSykes · 01/07/2011 09:48

ABO, we had sports day yesterday. Lots of mother shaking their heads when asked to join mothers race, then suddenly at the last minute, whipped off their shoes and lined up. They'd obviously been training for months! If you've got a camping chair, take it with you. I did, and was the subject of much envy!

VerityBrulee · 01/07/2011 09:52

Amber the Freya in blush is lovely, but no reduction Hmm Good luck today!

No parents race at our sports day thank goodness! YY to stilletos and pencil skirt ABO

Carciofi wish we had local boutiques like that. When we were in Sydney we had an apartment in an amazing area littered with gorgeous boutiques. How I loved browsing in the shop windows on the way to the supermarket. Happy days!

Having a quite day, MNing in bed while dc play/watch tv. Bliss. We are going to Co Clare to visit friends for a week, we go every summer. It is beautiful but I have learned over the years to bring ONE summer dress which will probably be unworn, lots of layers, cashmere and waterproofs.

notyummy · 01/07/2011 10:04

Ooh, quickly for Roary if you are reading (just because she should get what I am on about!) DH has won the Cormorant Scholarship Prize for the best academic performance on the course [inky swot emoticon]. Am proud!

petitdonkey · 01/07/2011 11:08

Plum - So happy for you and Alexa, may it be a long and pleasurable union Grin

Pickled - thanks so much, I keep looking at him and marvelling at just how gorgeous he is.... Past the tantrums and 'oooh, he's overtired' stages but don't yet have grumpy teens in sight. Just a lovely age.

NY - Well done to your DH even if I don't understand!!

roary · 01/07/2011 11:17

Wow, NY I do know what you mean, and it's a big deal. Well Done Mr NY!!!!

I am just whizzing in to say hi. It's been totally crazy here - either Roary, Mr ROary, or both have been out 13 of the last 16 nights and we are approaching exhaustion. Mr R threatening to move in to understairs cupboard and become a hermit. Movers come for Mr R boxes on Monday and I leave for NYC trip on MOnday so I am taking the morning off to sort bags and sort out DH clothes as he never does. The tie collection is hideous. I may put a sneaky pic of the ones I am purging up later. It's a bit of a nightmare though as we have to pack everything he needs separately into suitcases to take on the plane.

Hope all the formerly sickies are well, Nan take care, amber good luck, hope all the new handbags are settling in to their homes. Will report back after Saks shopping on Tues if not before.

blossoming · 01/07/2011 12:30

Sorry to post and run earlier. I was at mother and toddler group with dd in pants. So proud of her, she used the toilet twice when we were there.

pickled, luckily it's only because my parents are away that I've had 2 mil visits in a week! Good luck on getting on the shortlist.

Well done to mrny, and have fun at the ball.

roary, what can I say? Must be hectic for you all. Enjoy Saks though, won't you, if you can.. Wink.

Wind is awful carciofi, hope it passes soon.

I have broken the 'do not bake' rule of weight management. Mil bought over 6oz of rhubarb and Good Food Magazine had a recipe for rhubarb crumble muffins. Resistance will be futile.

After spending an absolute fortune on lipsticks since getting my colours done last year, I have decided that the one for me is still my old favourite Clinique almost lipstick in black honey. Just found a barely used one in a barely used pocket of the il tutto. Result!!

Crumpet have a flash sale. Trying really really hard to resist this scarf

www.crumpetengland.com/p/774/flash-sale/block-print-scarf-camel/crm.html

florenceuk · 01/07/2011 14:07

My boden (linen pleat dress, chiffon trim cardi) and reiss purchases (minna top! and lurex slouchy v neck) have arrived at work, and these: shiny shoes Will I look shallow if I dash off to the ladies loos and try them all on? Sigh I guess I'll wait until get home. TBH not sure if minna top will work for me but needed to justify my £5 delivery charge.

Reiss annoyed me because the Bella top in cream was out of stock - but they didn't tell me until the order had dispatched, I might have asked for it in blue or pink otherwise.

Can recommend Tiger's wife, if anybody is looking for a good book?

blossoming · 01/07/2011 14:45

I love those shoes Florence, and I already have your Boden order. You will need willpower indeed!

School finished at lunchtime today - all the kids were in the playground and they did a big count down from 50 before the Head locked the door - much excitement all round - less so from the parents!!!! Wink

Emo I love your impromptu nights out! DH on a corporate away day which involves a cave walk - he hates confined spaces tho....
Pickled any shortlisting news? Fingers and toes crossed for you.
Plum a loving the image I have of you, Alexa and your mirror. Enjoy.
NY thats great about DH's award.

Carciofi I love that Whistles top - buy!
Ants great you liked the the NL sandals too. The beige ones are much nicer in RL and really comfortable - they have not rubbed once.
MrsJuan we never got around to test driving the Fiat 500 as er, we had a couple of glasses of wine with our nice lunch! We had to sell our mini when we moved over here - I cried!

Very quick trip to the shops this morning - depressed to see several shops had their A/W collections in. Lots of browns/oranges so looking good if you have Autumnal colouring. Lots of suede wedged boots about too - am going to get some in grey for the days I can't wear my taupe ones!

Managed to retrieve parcel from neighbours house - now in possesion of the P8 white dress in a smaller size which will be great for on holiday and really chuffed with my ebay buy - the taupe vest top with sequin trim. Looks great with white jeans and dare I say it, my wide leg white linen trousers!

Thesis update - something got lost in translation and thankfully its only 50 pages to wade through but still very hard going esp as its quite an academic piece. Neighbour gave me a bottle of wine when she handed it over and I joked about having another once I'd finished - but I will really need one!

Am currently reading The Room - its heartbreaking so very glad I didnt take it on holiday.

AntPants1 · 01/07/2011 17:30

Gosh lovely lovely new things coming into whistles....

I am hopeless. I really really need to reign in my spending but have just spent £80 on a citrine cocktail ring.....can't link as I bought it off a stall on the high road...will have to cut up cards as so tempted by crumpet and whistles at the moment...

carciofi · 01/07/2011 18:06

Ollie, hope you got my message. Thank you so much!

Bloss, rhubarb muffins sound delicious.

Verity, I know, it is dangerous!

Ants, I bought the red crocus scarf and have just ordered the navy crocus scarf for my aunt as a thank you. No more Crumpet for a while now.

Florence, great shoes.

Plum, glad you are happy with your Alexa.

DD2 seems ok today but stocked up in the pharmacy in case it happens again. I took them both to the playground this afternoon and managed to lose her lovely little sunhat and socks. It was the first day I was on my own with them, I have been up since 5am but still didn't have time for lunch!

I got my Boden order today, I like the bag as a changing bag but didn't think the silk shirt was great so it's going back.

Got to wrestle DD1 out of her fairy outfit and into pajamas now.

carciofi · 01/07/2011 18:09

Roary, have fun in the Big Apple and well done, MrNY.

ApuskiDusky · 01/07/2011 18:41

Apologies, this will be a quick post, DH driving us over Bodmin Moor as I type.

Oh.my.god. What a week. House now repainted, decluttered, primped, photographed and on the market as of yesterday. Family packed and we are off for a week in Cornwall. No time to plan wardrobe so have brought almost all my clothes!

Will catch up on thread later, sorry to post and run!
