New thread here!

Bloss- just read your article re the restaurants - that place sounds lovely! Interestingly, no 4 was where DH and I spent the weekend in April and no 14 is where I am thinking of taking him for a birthday present.

petitdonkey · 27/06/2011 22:07

Portia - so sorry. It seems to be a day of bad news. My Best friend's Dad died this morning and I can't quite believe it. I spent so much of my teen years at their house and poor BF is due with her 2nd DC today Sad

Bloss & NY - our shop was out of ST yesterday. Is there anywhere nice in SE? DH and I want somewhere nice to go away to for our anniversary but not London.

AllBuggiedOut · 27/06/2011 22:09

petit when I had my colours done there was a zebra dress I adored; I remember saying to my consultant that surely I could still wear it, maybe with a scarf? And she replied "yes, if you want to look ill". And she was right Grin Life changing. Go for it!

blossoming · 27/06/2011 22:09

Some of them look amazing don't they notyummy?

Just watched the fat bodies programme. Dear me.
Jillian is seriously kicking my behind after my week off last week. Arms aching after L1 push ups. I've gone down to 1kg weights for the squat with V raises. It still hurts.

Petit- Hotel Terravina - which I can heartily recommend. 36 on the Quay, where I have eaten but not stayed, and Reads at Faversham. Also the Hand and Flowers at Marlow.

bloss- DH and I did NMTZ yesterday morning and I used a mixture of 3 and 5kg. I now ache!!

Hello Wise ladies, i gave up trying to keep up with thread some time ago but do think of you often especially when pondering outfits. Muchos congrats to Carciofi on the new addition!

I'm really struggling with work clothes this summer. Winter I adore as it means dresses/blouses tucked into pencil skirts/cigarette pants/towering heels/belted in cardis etc but now the weather has turned my summer workwear is so frumptastic, today was black linen trousers and a boden ruffle henley and all day i felt awful.

All of my usual stuff is too warm or dresses/skirts too short without thick tights to offset the sluttishness.

I have a few blouses and tops that could work but are too dressy for linen trousers. I am loathe to spend £££s but need something. I was thinking some navy capris would be useful but any other suggestions are welcomed. Preferably seperates. Footwear will be tan lottas or ballet flats as again all my usual footwear looks out of place in this heat.

carciofi · 28/06/2011 06:09

WAN, hope your dh is alright. I am shocked that your parents didn't help you out.

Portia, sorry about DD's pony, it is very upsetting.

Happily and Vin, thanks. Happily, Zara have nice capris, Portia and Bloss have them, I think.

Nan, hope everything is ok with you.

Roary, you sound busy!

I have been up on and off since 3am, DD1 is thirsty, DD2 is thirsty and needs changing, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. So to keep myself awake I have been pondering blowing all my money on the new Alexa or Bayswater in the conker colour, or trying to decide whether to get the LKB Anna bag instead, which is also lovely and then I have money left over for fall fashion!

blossoming · 28/06/2011 08:22

That sounds very upsetting portia. Hope you can cherish happy memories.

Terrible for your friend petit. She will be very busy with a newborn and may not get a chance to grieve properly.

happily, I can vouch for Zara capris. Many on this thread have found good tops there too. I have R&B quilted ballet flats in pewter
with black patent toe which are gorgeous.
Nice dilemma carciofi! I would go for option 2, but I know how much you love your Mulberry!

OP posts:
Emo76 · 28/06/2011 08:22

happily I wear JBrand navy majors (skinny jeans but not denim) and Reiss Minna lace top and heels often to work - try similar look?

WAN hope all well

Portia oh that's so sad

vin good to see you! have you got your student discount card lined up yet - think Topshop...

carciofi I have to say that despite being overpriced I love the Alexa the most

uurgh went out last night for DD1s parents drinks and got overexcited with the rose. am lying low.

PlumSykes · 28/06/2011 09:14

Carciofi, I would go for the new Alexa. Lovely!

OllieinOrange · 28/06/2011 09:15

My goodness - we are expecting a massive storm any minute - DH just phoned to warn me its going to be a big one! Everything outside is very still and its all gone v dark. Hope DS2 is ok at school - he really hates thunder!

Portia thats really sad about your pony.

WAN how is DH today?

Petit how awful for your friend.
Happily like Bloss, was going to suggest you head to Zara and Warehouse has some nice tops in at the moment too.

Im off to batton down the hatches!

petitdonkey · 28/06/2011 09:55

Carciofi - I love the Alexa but not sure that the Chestnut colour would go with quite as much as the tan... maybe that's just my wardrobe!

Ollie - we were promised a storm last night but it never came - super hot here today! I love a good storm but hope your DS is okay. One of my strongest memories of Primary school was a major storm and they turned off all of the lights so that we could watch - I now realise that could have been traumatic for some children!!

petitdonkey · 28/06/2011 11:00

OMG, I'm halfway through a major wardrobe sort-out and I think I may have to leave this thread. I have so much stuff!! (and I only love about 1/4 of it..)

blossoming · 28/06/2011 11:41

Sell it petit! Very liberating and cheering to find extra funds for more of the stuff you love!

OP posts:
pickledsiblings · 28/06/2011 11:45

Hello All

So sorry to hear about your DH WAN.

PORTIA, poor DD2 Sad.

Carciofi, I like the Alexa best. Have it as a pick me up to get you through the newborn phase. You could have used 'Alexa' as Rosanna's middle name Grin.

Well, 2 sports days down and one to go. Still faffing with silly job application form here. Any tips Bloss? I must have read every word ever written by a certain fantastic sounding KS1 teacher on MN and there is only so much one can take of the TES forum.

Ollie, don't be too frightened, will you Smile.

petitdonkey · 28/06/2011 11:50

But can I face the Ebay faff only to find that I've made 20p profit???

blossoming · 28/06/2011 12:31

If so petit, take them to the charity shop. Just get rid of them, and let your really lovely clothes breathe!
On the other hand, you may not make a profit, but it's still spending money!
Put a sensible start price on, depending on the garment, if you've worn it a fair bit, how about 20% of the price you paid. Rarely worn, try 40%. Never worn 60%. I had such a good time last year sorting my wardrobe. Brilliant fun.

pickled, I am sending you lovely positive vibes (trying to gloss over the fact that I know nothing!!)

OP posts:
notyummy · 28/06/2011 12:43

Hello all!

Well, I think today is actually a bit of relief after the ridiculous humidity of yesterday. I am wearing ASOS Black trousers (as in the 'label' ASOS Black - the trousers are actually a khaki shade!), stripey Mango blouse and Mango blazer with brown wedges. Couldn't have worn this outfit yesterday as the trousers are wool and I would have melted!!

Managed a 4 mile run at 6am this morning before work, as will pushed for time much of the week. I felt awful to begin with - little sleep because of heat and a sore head (because of heat...) however after the run I fely so much better. Can't decide whether to 'properly' low-carb until Friday for the Big Event or just cut back. Realistically I dont NEED to lose weight, but, you know, a couple of pounds might make all the difference ....

carciofi · 28/06/2011 14:20

NY, well done on the 6am run!

I am shattered, managed an hour of sleep while my aunt took DD1 out but I can't wait to go to bed tonight.

I will have to go and compare bags again.

ABO, the Current Elliots arrived and they are faded black, not sure about them and think I may return. So that's another £60 saved!

Petit, if you have labels like Whistles, Reiss, Karen Millen, it is definitely worth the hassle of ebay.

OllieinOrange · 28/06/2011 14:46

Guess what I have to go and do this evening????
Only go and help clean DS1's classroom as part of the end of term clean up! Shock. Not just helping take pictures off of walls but cleaning walls/shelves/floors/windows etc
First head lice checks and now this! Honestly, I do wonder about living here sometimes.....

Storm wasn't too bad but apparently a much bigger one is heading this way this evening! (Pickled I was a v brave girl honest Smile) DS2 didnt even hear the thunder - his lovely teacher played some music for them all to dance too to distract them - ahhh.

What do we think of this dress from Next - reviews are a bit mixed but there is something about it I like. here

PlumSykes · 28/06/2011 15:04

Ollie, can't you pay someone to go for you? Or would that not be in the spirit that is intended?!

OllieinOrange · 28/06/2011 15:10

Smile Plum nice idea but Class Mums are 'expected' to lead by example and do it and rope others in to help too - been quite funny this week seeing various parents dive for cover in the playground when I walk anywhere near them!!!

Emo76 · 28/06/2011 16:08

Ollie what are you going to wear for this evening's exciting social event :-)

today am wearing a cream LKB dress, black heels and, ladies, hold your breath....carrying WATERMELON clutch - it is fabulous - am v glad I reordered in the sales, fits in lots (more than the mini alexa?!)

pickledsiblings · 28/06/2011 16:17

Link Emo? I am wearing watermelon nail polish and I love it!

Ollie, we had a big thunderstorm here too. I love thunderstorms, especially at night.

MarshaBrady · 28/06/2011 16:30

One can only buy Bottega Veneta if one stands at a jaunty angle. Grin

Decorating going well. Many trips to F&B. First room nearly done. Absolutely love the shade. Like a light cloudy sky.

WAN how is your dh, hope all is well.
