Know how it works but bonkers to think despite season they've had that Man U or Spurs be in the Champions League next season

Tiswa · 08/05/2025 21:56

Yes you just can’t work out who is fated to win either whose story ends with the Europa League.

kiterunning · 08/05/2025 22:58

Can’t believe that either Man Utd or Spurs will have a more successful season than Arsenal!

Tiswa · 08/05/2025 23:08

Chelsea Spurs and Crystal Palace all could win something this season.

that said seeing Antony at RealBetis I would like to see him do well in the final

I don't think winning the new format Europa League and finishing 14 &16 in PL means they have had a "better" season than Arsenal.

I don't think you would find an Arsenal fan who would swap...

and @MaybeNotBob Just asked Alexa who is the worst football team 😂😂😂

MrsMitford3 · 09/05/2025 08:20

Sorry-just realised they are in fact 15th and 16th so I stand corrected

Whoever wins (United or Spurs) gets to lift a cup. They are recorded in the annals of history as Champions of that competition.

Yes, we're absolutely shite, no United (or Spurs) fan would deny that, but whoever wins is doing what football is all about ... Lifting trophies.
All the bitter sods who say it's not worth winning, it's a shite trophy, it's a poor competition etc, fuck em!

I've been extremely lucky to watch United lift 40 trophies and those moments have eclipsed every occasion we've finished second in (ie, lost) the league.

I'm not ashamed to say that I want to win this, and if we do I'll be partying in Bilbao with DS and thousands of reds and I will bloody enjoy it. Far more than Arsenal fans will enjoy finishing second again 👍🏻

In a way though they wouldve won a trophy though and end up in Champions League so even though Arsenal will finish a lot higher they in a way would've achieved the same thing just with a trophy at the end which is what the aim is.

MaybeNotBob · 09/05/2025 12:33

I suspect it Arsenal had gone from successive 2nd places down to 16th, Arteta wouldn't be staying...

Tiswa · 09/05/2025 13:45

Arteta needs to take responsibility for it though - he seems to be someone for whom things happen to, PGMOL, injuries, the ball, they were the better team but lost rather than just saying the better team won on the night.
Thst said given the Liverpool squad seem to have spent the week in some rather fancy looking places and a Kevin Hart concert I can see Sunday being a good result for them

Manchester United need to look into why they can play like that against what is a top 4 Spanish team but not in the League. Becuase if they don’t solve that next season could be a disaster!

Spurs are even weirder - they played defensively last night and as a unit - why can’t they do that in the League

MaybeNotBob · 09/05/2025 16:41

So it's Arteta's fault that the PGMOL are out to get him?

At least you realise they are...

Well they used to be out to favour Manchester United, 13 years without an opposition penalty at Old Trafford, then Nemanja Vidic being subject to rules so he got less cautions, and of course 'Fergie time', which was actually proven to exist (about 40 seconds on average).

LlynTegid · 09/05/2025 17:07

Barnet the National League as well.

Just seen this elsewhere; if you have Alexa, ask it "what is the worst football team?"...

I don't have Alexa. What is the answer?

MaybeNotBob · 09/05/2025 16:41

No that isn’t what I said, but the only way he is going to get Arsenal across the line and win something is to stop finding excuses and actually get them working together - as a team. With a decent striker (which surely @MaybeNotBob you must admit they should have signed) they could next season win things. IF they get rid of the notion that things happen to them that they have no control over.

Accepting that they failed because of their failings as a team is the only way forward. Yes some decisions were against them but use that to motivate them not that people are against them

because why on earth would the PGMOL be against Arsenal? They certainly have shown no signs of being for Liverpool, Man City perhaps but if so wouldn’t it be more uniform.

Liverpool won because yes they had a little bit of luck but mainly because they worked on making sure they had less injuries and when games were going against them dug in deep to find a way through and score goals.

PSG won because they were the better side and deserve to be in the final and anyone who says anything differently is wrong! Luis Enrique comes across really well though and with his backstory I hope he wins.

"I couldn't possibly comment.. oh alright then it's spurs"

MaybeNotBob · 09/05/2025 19:42

If you read back a few posts, I said PSG were the better team. Particularly in the first leg.

I've been screaming for us to buy a striker for two years now.

You'd have to ask PGMOL why they decided that they were going to give bizarre cards and make bizarre decisions against us. We probably still wouldn't have won this year, particularly with the injuries. But for the past few seasons we've been very lucky with injuries, it's just bad luck that they all happened in the same season. Saying it's poor from Arteta is taking this season in isolation, and therefore doesn't lend credibility to your argument.

I disagree.
Nothing beats the joy of lifting a trophy at the end of the season.

What I am saying is that in order to take the final step from where he is to a manager who could potentially lead his side to greatness - because the potential is there it really is, in him and the side if they got one or two more puzzle pieces. He needs to stop with the excuses and use them, use them to get the mentality of his team in place. He needs to lead and accept some responsibility. IMO it really is the missing piece for him as a manager. And if he doesn’t do it soon I don’t think he will last another season.

yes you may say PSG were the better team but unless I have missed it Arteta isn’t and that is an issue.

Guardiola took all the failures and criticisms of Man City this season and to his credit used it to turn it all around.

Tiswa · 09/05/2025 20:45

But @MaybeNotBob i agree with a striker I just don’t understand because that is the real difference I think this season would have had at least one trophy with a striker

But Arteta isn't making excuses! Actually listen to what he says!

This is TalkShite/Murdoch's agenda. As per usual...

DuncinToffee · 10/05/2025 10:02

I like Arteta but he does whinge a lot, he did that as player as well.

@MaybeNotBob i don’t have an agenda and certainly talksport have an agenda against everyone.

but surely you can see actually saying we weren’t the best side in the champions league, we didn’t do what we needed in the league this year (rather than saying that the points they had for the past two years would have won the title this year) and that we will regroup in the summer look to getting in new players in key positions (a striker) is what is needed.

going up against Pep Guardiola takes it toll (it takes it toll on Guardiola himself) and I think you can see it here. You saw it with Klopp and it is going to be interesting to see how Slot handles it when Manchester City challenge next year

because I can see tomorrow if Arsenal win he takes that as some sort of sign that yes it should have been his trophy rather than the fact that Liverpool players have quite literally been on holiday!

enough about Arsenal and the Premier Leavue looking forward to Notts County Wimbledon today!

MaybeNotBob · 10/05/2025 10:39

And again, you're saying what you want him to say, not what he actually says!

It's bizarre...
