Well, they've announced the calendar so we can have a thread now Grin

2015 races

Live on the beeb

Congrats Jenson and Jessica!

Will Lewis and Nico snipe at each other all season? Will little Verstappen (must stop calling him Jos jr) impress in his first race? Will Ferrari and McLaren improve or still be a bit shit? Can't wait for Melbourne!

Everyone ready for the weekend? Thank god it's an evening race so we won't miss the nice weather :) I love Montreal, I think it's a brilliant circuit. Can we just take a moment to relive the amazing ? I had to have a lie down in a dark room after this one.

I always get excited when I see this in Active Convos Grin

Yes Eau that was one storming race from JB. Be great if he could hit that level of performance again.

GaryBaldy · 04/06/2015 13:52

Actually that is unfair, it would be better if the car / team could hit that level of performance again.

OberonTheHopeful · 04/06/2015 20:16

I love the Montreal circuit, it nearly always produces a great race! I'm away until Saturday night so will record the quali to watch when I get back. That means staying off FB and MN until I've seen it Grin

I definitely think JB could achieve that level again if McLaren have made enough improvements to the car, and Honda to the power unit. It's seems a tall order, but then again both companies have pulled a rabbit out of the hat before!

I can't believe it's six years since Jenson was World champion. Where has the time gone!?

GaryBaldy · 07/06/2015 19:19

Here we go

GrouchyKiwi · 07/06/2015 19:38

Montreal is possibly my favourite race. It's always good.

McLaren really needs to sort its shit. I hate seeing it so uncompetitive.

EauRouge · 07/06/2015 21:08

I think McLaren would rather forget the whole weekend. Alonso was right, they did look like amateurs. In case anyone missed the red button thing (although I'm sure the comments will be in the press), EJ is putting a lot of the blame on Ron Dennis.

Now Jenson is on and I think he's trying not to cry. Poor bugger.

Nice to see Bottas on the podium.

On a side note, 6yo DD1 stayed up to watch the race with me and was asking why all the drivers were boys and why all the girls were just wearing dresses and clapping Angry

EauRouge · 08/06/2015 10:50

The beeb ponders what is wrong with McLaren and whose fault it is. Let's hope next year is better. I hope this isn't Jenson's last year, it would be awful if his last season was such a crap one.

Still, at least Alonso can have a laugh about it.

Eau your DD has got the right idea - well done on her for being so perceptive & having good feminist views early on. Which is well done to you as well!

EauRouge · 08/06/2015 11:34

Thanks :) She's too clever for her own good! I was floundering to come up with an answer other than "I dunno. Stupid, isn't it?". I'm sure they never used to have those women lining the corridor to the podium. They are basically human billboards, aren't they? Grim.

I'm so glad for Claire Williams, Monisha Kaltenborn and Susie Wolff. At least there are some visible women that have jobs other than holding a sign. Many more women behind the scenes too, but you don't see much of them on telly.

I just checked the Fantasy F1 scores, eaupea you are winning by one point!

GaryBaldy · 09/06/2015 13:16

Very impressed with your DD Eau - yes the grid girls and podium girls are a rather depressing feature

OberonTheHopeful · 09/06/2015 20:09

Just caught up! I kind of agree with Alonso, McLaren are looking a bit like amateurs right now. You wouldn't think they're one of the oldest and most experienced teams in the sport.

Really feel for Jenson also. They have two former world champions on the team and they're just not giving them the car they deserve.

GrouchyKiwi · 18/06/2015 16:45

It's looking like another bad weekend for McLaren. m.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/33183855

GaryBaldy · 18/06/2015 17:02

Whaaat??? That's not good McLaren :( :( :(

EauRouge · 18/06/2015 17:32

20 places, bloody hell. I know rules are rules but it's not like they're going to gain much of an advantage, they're already so far behind.

OP posts:
GaryBaldy · 20/06/2015 11:23

Do they do negative scores cos that's where they are heading... Hmm

Ohfourfoxache · 20/06/2015 12:21

I just don't understand how the hell McLaren can be in the position they are. They aren't just slow, they are unreliable to boot.

Maybe this won't be JB's last season - you can bet anything that they will want to retain decent drivers at the very least.

OberonTheHopeful · 20/06/2015 12:22

McLaren and Honda both need to get their act together; it's not like they have no history in the sport!

Ohfourfoxache · 20/06/2015 13:28

Absolutely agree Oberon. Especially as the last time Honda was in the sport, their developments ultimately resulted in winning the championship. Albeit for another team.

So if McLaren are facing 20 places, and there aren't 20 places down to go, could the penalty potentially be split into 2x10 place penalties for example? 20 places in one hit is just meaningless (not that I want to see McLaren punished, but it is nice that it's happening to Alonso rather than JB!)

EauRouge · 20/06/2015 21:25

25 place grid penalties for the pair of them! They may as well not let them start until Monday.

GaryBaldy · 20/06/2015 23:19

Just enjoyed watching Rush on tv, no-one like James Hunt anymore. Raikkonen is probably the closest.

Ohfourfoxache · 20/06/2015 23:26

Oh shit, I spoke too soon didn't I Eau?

I'm curious Gary - why do you say Raikkonen is the closest to Hunt? Hunt was before my time, but from what I've read/heard/seen he was an incredible personality - I just can't see how a comparison can be made?

EauRouge · 21/06/2015 08:12

Raikkonen doesn't show his personality much on the grid, I think he gets pissed off with having to do all the media stuff. But google 'Raikkonen drunk' and marvel at the photos Grin Oh, and the ones of him powerboat racing dressed as a gorilla (under the name James Hunt).

Rush is a great movie.
