This activity is now closed

A sturdy backpack that can take pretty much anything you throw in it and also looks stylish, is often a must-have for both parents and children alike. HYPE would love you or your DC to take a look at their website not only choose your favourite backpack but also share what your backpack essentials are.

Here’s what HYPE have to say: “You’ll make heads turn and jealousy begin with a HYPE bag in hand. Our backpacks are perfect for those days when you’ve got the world to carry on your back, literally, for every moment. Whether you're packing your go-to flight essentials or your DC is heading to their mates for a sleepover, our backpacks are here for every occasion! Our most-sought-after Black with white speckle is for those who like things a little subtler. Sizing at 41 x 31cm our backpacks are the perfect size to keep all of your essentials in one safe place. Want something a bit louder? Choose from our current best-seller, the all over mature floral print or the classic holographic.”

Take a look at the HYPE website here and select yours or your DCs favourite backpack and post it on the thread (ideally with a link for everyone interested in your favourite).

We would also love to know what yours or your DCs backpack essentials are. Do you have to have a backpack with as many pockets as possible to fit all your little bit and bobs in? Perhaps your DC is all about how the bag looks and which backpack will make them stand out the most? Or maybe you have to have a backpack that is spacious enough to fit every single thing you own in it?

Tell us yours or your DC’s backpack essentials, as well as your favourite HYPE backpack from their website and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list). Plus HYPE will also be giving 4 MNers their favourite backpack that they selected from the site!

Thanks and good luck!

Choosing just one of those was such hard work! I loved so many.
Eventually after narrowing it down I chose the Metallic Emoji:

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-metallic-emoji-backpack

Why? Well, it's shiny, and I'm a sucker for shiny things! I also love the kawaii style and the rainbow and Unicorn are very much like that.

For me I'm a bit of a bag addict and I do love a nice backpack for holidays and longer days out. I need something with an easy to access pocket to keep my phone and wallet in, comfy straps so I can wear it all day without it cutting into me, and enough internal space to throw a days worth of crap at!

I love this so much I might have to buy it anyway 😍

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 21/03/2018 12:47

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-with-white-and-reflective-speckle-backpack I love this one! DS would like a blue one! Our essentials are, nappies, wipes, snacks, drink, crayons and paper! And george pig!

MegBusset · 21/03/2018 13:13

I like this one:
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-camo-reversible-backpack

Shame the site doesn't say the capacity in litres.

DCs' backpack essentials are allergy medicine (DS1), phone (DS1 again), water bottles, tissues!

YoohooDorothy · 21/03/2018 13:42

I like the Neon Palm bag. I like accessible pockets and plenty of space inside for larger items. Wipeable, including inside incase of spillages. Sturdy zips and not too fussy with straps etc.

SillyMoomin · 21/03/2018 15:20

An amazing selection!, never come across this company before!

I like this one grey taiwan because practicality wise, the colour will hide dirt when it's put down on the floor / kicked under a picnic table / has the flask of tea inside it spill etc etc, but the material looks cosy and smart and I like the splash of red and the taiwan-y letters, makes it look like I've been somewhere more exotic than sainsburys!

Essentials for a good back pack these days I think are an access pocket where the zip is flush against the back - i.e., not accessible by someone standing next to you. Being able to keep at least your wallet and phone secure is incredibly important - thieves can help themselves to my DH's sandwich though!

elizaco · 21/03/2018 15:34

Not seen or even heard of these before. I really like them. My daughter's school is becoming strict on school bags, and encouraging everyone to use rucksack-style bags rather than "handbag" style, so will certainly be encouraging to them to look through this site. I think it is important for a rucksack to several pockets and side compartments so small items are easily accessible. My personal favourite is the Burgundy Sunrise Rose backpack.

CoffeeOrSleep · 21/03/2018 16:51

Probably this space one would be DS's favourite. However, it's lacking a side pocket for a water bottle as far as I can see, I have had too many bottles spill inside backpacks over the years to have one without now, plus it's a faff on a day out to have to take the backpack off and open up to just grab a water bottle. Side pockets you can reach round and grab your water is much better.

Also don't like that you can't see inside the bag on the website photos.

EasterRobin · 21/03/2018 18:09

I'd go for this one for DD: www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-metallic-emoji-backpack

Backpack essentials are that it is easy to open, easy to tell apart from all her classmates' bags, and has room for 3 changes of clothes as well as whatever item she has decided it is impossible to go to pre-school without today.

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 21/03/2018 18:57

I like the speckle bags but I think dd would probably go for
this

Essentials? Hardwearing. Big enough to fit in a ring binder, massive pencil case, lunchbox and water bottle.

BananaDaiquiri · 21/03/2018 19:16

I like this zebra one:
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-zebra-warp-backpack
DD likes the gold holograph one.

Backpacks need to be comfy and have lots of pockets, ideally at least one inside the main part of the bag to prevent "dippers" etc on the tube.

lolly2011 · 21/03/2018 20:47

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-silver-camo-backpack we love this back pack, my son has the Space one for school at the moment and it is brilliant.
I think a separate section for books is essential and plenty of room for other school items.
I look a backpack to have strong comfy straps to help carry school work.

Upyours2017 · 21/03/2018 21:08

My little girl would love this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-pink-holographic-backpack-28dc1f
My ideal backpack would have a bottle holder; very few do but I always carry a drink with me and I can't count the number of times the bottles have leaked in my bag!

Sitrus · 21/03/2018 21:50

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-blue-midnight-backpack

My daughter has fallen in love with the blue midnight backpack. We have spent a lot of time looking at backpacks lately as she is starting secondary school in september.

Her essentials are a waterbottle, lots of space for her books, her pencil case and a little room to hide her phone in. As a mum my priorities are that the backpack is sturdy and has good straps.

GruffaloPants · 21/03/2018 22:13

DD loves this cool space one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-screenprint-space-backpack, as well as all the metallic ones.

For me, the most important thing I'd bring able to fit a school folder in. It helps if the bag is easy to wash and doesn't mark/stain too easily.

FurryTurnipHead · 21/03/2018 22:20

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-tan-embossed-script-backpack

I love this one. I don't own a handbag, they annoying me, I can't bear things dangling and banging against by body so always use backpacks. I like this one as it looks classy and would be great for everyday use. I need a good sturdy bag, with a flat base, and some good storage pockets.

Mel0Dram4 · 21/03/2018 23:49

I absolutely love this pink velour backpack www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-pink-velour-backpack
I'm a bit of a nightmare for carrying everything and the kitchen sink around with me, although I do often try and declutter! Absolute essentials are phone, keys, tissues, wetwipes, a couple of nappies, water, a book for entertaining the baby, my buspass and some cash!

For my kids, I'd pick this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-navy-camo-fade-backpack They are big fans of camo! Their essentials are water, books, snacks, and definitely their tablet.

I haven't heard of Hype before, and really enjoyed a mooch around the website...I have never seen such a selection of backpacks.

RandomUsers · 22/03/2018 09:14

Just shown this to my DD(7) and she picked this one

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-grey-primary-splat-backpack

Really hoping we win this time.

AmazonianMummy · 22/03/2018 09:59

I absolutely love the holographic back packs...I want a pink and a blue one for my children, they'd be perfect for carry ons on a plane or to fill up with loads of things to keep them entertained on a car journey 🙌🏻

CMOTDibbler · 22/03/2018 11:52

DS and I both love the Cosmo backpack.

I need lots of pockets so that things are in the right place

lucyanntrevelyan · 22/03/2018 11:55

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-reflective-backpack-rolltop

DS loves his Hype rucksack but it is not big enough! He has ripped the zip trying to stuff things in. He cycles to school and it is very important everything fits in the one bag so he can cycle safely without football boots dangling off the handlebars. So I would say my essentials are a bag slightly bigger than the standard design. I have put as my favourite this different design as it is reflective wihtout being babyish which I would like, and waterproof which is really helpful on long cycle rides - but I cannot see the actual size anywhere so don't know if it is bigger.

Teladi · 22/03/2018 12:37

Love a backpack for commuting via public transport which I do most days. I really like this one, the SILVER REFLECTIVE BACKPACK TRAVELLER.

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-silver-reflective-backpack-traveller

I always have a book/Kindle, a power bank for my phone, and recently wireless earphones too.

MTBMummy · 22/03/2018 14:08

I personally love the Vintage Rose one (www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-vintage-rose-backpack)

DD (8) loves the luna one "cos it's got cute dogs on it"

DS (3) wants to know why there aren't any with dinosaurs or sharks on them, but says the camo one is ok, because it looks like Andy's

As far as back pack essentials... From a design perspective, a secure internal pocket for wallet phone etc, at least 2 internal compartments for keeping things separate in the internal spaces, and ideally a drink holder to stop water bottles falling over. I carry a back pack rather than a handbag so fitting everything in, but being able to find things easily is very important

skenn3285 · 22/03/2018 14:30

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-floral-backpack is my fave! Love the design.

My essentials are interior pockets so all my bits and pieces don’t get lost and also comfy straps.

outnumbered77 · 22/03/2018 14:57

My boys both have hype bags and love them.

I would love this one: www.justhype.co.uk/hype-pink-velour-backpack what's not to love about a bit of pink velour Smile

Essentials are plenty of room, plenty of pockets and comfy straps. Ideally a pocket to keep a bottle upright and a clip for keys would be good as I can never find them at the bottom of a bag.

bec4everuk1 · 22/03/2018 16:13

This was my favourite because it has my favourite flower:-
www.homeaway.co.uk/p8064863

This was my daughters favourite because she loves how shiny it is:-
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-pink-holographic-backpack-28dc1f

My backpack essentials are an inside pocket for keeping my keys and phone safe because if I don't have one of those I panic I have lost them and spend time worrying and searching through all the inside of my bag for them and they're always in the last corner you check. I also like it to be of a spacious size because I usually end up having to put some bits for my children in my bag that they want me to carry.
