This activity is now closed

A sturdy backpack that can take pretty much anything you throw in it and also looks stylish, is often a must-have for both parents and children alike. HYPE would love you or your DC to take a look at their website not only choose your favourite backpack but also share what your backpack essentials are.

Here’s what HYPE have to say: “You’ll make heads turn and jealousy begin with a HYPE bag in hand. Our backpacks are perfect for those days when you’ve got the world to carry on your back, literally, for every moment. Whether you're packing your go-to flight essentials or your DC is heading to their mates for a sleepover, our backpacks are here for every occasion! Our most-sought-after Black with white speckle is for those who like things a little subtler. Sizing at 41 x 31cm our backpacks are the perfect size to keep all of your essentials in one safe place. Want something a bit louder? Choose from our current best-seller, the all over mature floral print or the classic holographic.”

Take a look at the HYPE website here and select yours or your DCs favourite backpack and post it on the thread (ideally with a link for everyone interested in your favourite).

We would also love to know what yours or your DCs backpack essentials are. Do you have to have a backpack with as many pockets as possible to fit all your little bit and bobs in? Perhaps your DC is all about how the bag looks and which backpack will make them stand out the most? Or maybe you have to have a backpack that is spacious enough to fit every single thing you own in it?

Tell us yours or your DC’s backpack essentials, as well as your favourite HYPE backpack from their website and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list). Plus HYPE will also be giving 4 MNers their favourite backpack that they selected from the site!

Thanks and good luck!

My requirements are zip top, ideally with a flap over the zip.
Coloured in a way that means it is visable in the dark, but not childish.
I wouldn't use any of them as my day to day bag (too big -wallet, baby wipes, light jumper, water bottle), but would like the reflective traveller bag for longer days out.

OfIceAndFire · 23/03/2018 10:47

This one:

My son loves 'army' green at the moment. His essentials at the moment are:

  • plenty of room
  • comfortable straps
  • lightweight
  • pockets for essentials
llynnnn · 23/03/2018 12:16

I always use a backpack for family days out/walks etc, so handy to be able to put everything in and once its on your back you soon forget its even there.
Now dd's are older (8 & 11) I've started to make them carry there own too ;) I think dd2 would love this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-metallic-emoji-backpack as she loves anything emoji! dd1 would probably go for something more girly like this www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-floral-backpack.

I like a decent sized main compartment for scarves/hats/gl;oves to go in, then a small pocket to keep phone, keys, money separate. other backpack essentials are....water bottle, tissues, wipes, snack :)

Stuffofawesome · 23/03/2018 13:33

I really like this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-burgundy-embossed-script-backpack

ds likes this one
www.justhype.co.uk/hype-x-turtles-bad-guys-backpack?___store=store_hype_uk&nosto=nosto-page-product1

and dd this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-burgundy-speckle-worm-backpack

In terms of essentials, we are a practical family so while it is nice that they look cool practicality usually trumps appreance. Good comfy straps with proper adjustability (which grip when set so they don't slide loose) Place to secure keys handy, Some pockets but not too many and good quality zips. What would be really good would be a simple way to lock the zip to prevent pickpocketing.

Mesoavocado · 23/03/2018 14:47

MY favourite one is definitely this

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-street-backpack

My essentials for a backpack is that it needs to be sturdy and I love pockets and more pockets! Baby wipes are still baby wipes in my current bags despite DS being 5. They come in handy for everything

dewdneyk · 23/03/2018 15:19

The green tonal traveller backpack is great. I need space for overnight clothes a separate pocket for travel documents and another space for papers.

Aworldofmyown · 23/03/2018 16:17

Daughter!

Son!!

ME!

They need to have comfy straps. Lots of pockets. Good colours and hardwearing.

SouthWestmom · 23/03/2018 20:52

We have Jupiter space and Cloud pool chosen by the 10 and 12 year old ds for their weekend activities - essentials would be a Nintendo, water bottle, dance shoes, jumper and snack.

My favourite is the moon fade (?) which I love. I need it for our holiday so I can keep all the sun cream, euros, water bottles, tissues etc in it and avoid a handbag.

biffyboom · 23/03/2018 22:25

I love this design, it's really unique
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-grey-taping-backpack-rolltop

My essentials are a large main compartment, to hold the bulk of my things, with 3/4 small segments to put important things like keys, phone, money, that give me quick access without having to root around trying to find them.

KittyKat88 · 23/03/2018 23:21

Wow, there's some great bags on the site! I'd choose with the Cosmo www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-cosmo-backpack or Dawn www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-dawn-backpack
I think DD would love the Pink Holographic www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-pink-holographic-backpack-28dc1f

DD just needs a good internal space. The one thing the Hype bag misses which is useful for school is the side water bottle net, but that's not a deal breaker when the bag looks so cool!

Snog · 24/03/2018 06:29

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/holographic-backpacks/hype-silver-holographic-backpack
Got to be holographic!
A secure pickpocket proof pocket is what I want. And comfy straps.

Shireslass · 24/03/2018 06:51

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-primary-backpack-b120b7

There were quite a few I like! But went for this one.

My daughter is looked after by myself, husband and grandparents so a bag which suits all three of us is important. Personally we have always preferred a backpack as they are much more practical than the standard baby bags. Being able to carry it on both shoulders means our arms are free (baby aside) for everything else.

I also use a backpack for work and I like space inside them. Not masses of pockets as for me as they end up being unused.

Catzpyjamas · 24/03/2018 07:40

In terms of pattern, this one is my favourite but I'm struggling to see which, if any, option has an external bottle holder?
That would be one of my requisite features along with a hanging hook, an inside zip pocket, an external front zip pocket, an internal keyring clip, a solid base, decent waterproofing and comfortable straps.

Quietvoiceplease · 24/03/2018 09:15

We love hype and my children love most of your bags, and have clothing also.
I decided to look for my favourite. I use a backpack most days for work as I carry a laptop and papers. The one I use is boring and bulky and I really dislike it. I have a smaller one that I use on days out with the children which has more pockets.
I really like this backpack as the roll top makes it look very striking, and less like a school bag:
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-reflective-backpack-rolltop
I think this would be great for days out but am not sure the back is padded enough to cope with carrying a laptop everyday?
Years ago, as a student, I had something called a bookpack: like a regular backpack, but the back was padded and make it straighter, which meant it was really comfortable for carrying lots of papers. I'd love to find something like that again.

Angelfaced · 24/03/2018 10:33

My DC is a little hype mad, he is 11 and has hype t-shirts, bags and a wallet.

Asking which his favourite backpack today he says it's the new black scribble

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-scribble-backpack?gclid=CjwKCAjw7tfVBRB0EiwAiSYGMyoy-uAU383t9GSK_x113fdfRXP34xpuzRRYj_8m8j9wCgkvBm0VOxoC2n4QAvD_BwE

He always likes something to stand out from the crowd. His backpack essentials are usually wallet, phone, school books and pencilcase. Hype seems to be very popular right now and his friends all have different hype bags. Happy to have now seen the mumsnet discount code and also the free pencil case if I purchase this too.

Punkatheart · 24/03/2018 10:36

I love the metallic emoji one! I always pack vaseline (dry lips, dry skin, shine shoes), plus small tub of Sudocreme, water, mints, inhaler, paper and pens, torch...

Fletch80 · 24/03/2018 11:32

the metallic emoji is my favourite, rainbows seem to be on everything this year so this would fit in with that trend.

I like to use a backpack when out walking my dog as it keeps my hands free to hold his lead or throw a ball or whatever. So my backpack essentials are a ball, poop bags, hand sanitiser, bottle of water, dog treats, my mobile phone, and house keys.

helcrai · 24/03/2018 11:49

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-silver-holographic-backpack-1e403b
This silver holographic is DD2's favourite. She loves anything shiny or sparkly so would be perfect for using to cheer up her drab school uniform! She seems to need more and more kit the further up school she goes so the good size of this one is ideal. Inside pocket is handy too for carrying money. DD2 essentials in her backpack are:
Pencil case & spare coloured felt tips
Lunchbox
Water bottle
Hat/gloves for the cold weather or sunhat if warm
Squashum (don't ask! Its the latest fad)
Sometimes spare trainers for outdoor PE
Hairbrush
I would always look for something that appears sturdy, like this does and wipe cleanable (lots of drinks tend to get spilled when carried). For DD2 though it would be all about the style.

My favourite Hype backpack is this one :-

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-reflective-traveller-backpack

My needs differ from many people as I use a backpack to hang on the back of my wheelchair. I like to have a backpack with several pockets so that either myself, or whoever is pushing me can find things easily. I like a backpack with a waist strap so that the backpack can be secured to the wheelchair - I feel vulnerable if left alone and if the waist strap is secured, it makes it more difficult for someone to be able to take my belongings.

I like an easy access pocket for my medication and I like the main body of the backpack to have separate compartments - I often have to carry my waterproof cover, so it is more convenient to be able to put that in its own pocket and have the other pocket free for items such as snacks, drinks, tissues etc. I like there to be something reflective on the backpack so that if I am waiting alone, the backpack highlights my chair.

Mumversation123 · 24/03/2018 14:18

I love this one www.justhype.co.uk/hype-burgundy-embossed-script-backpack
In my backpack is always a drink, umberella, pen, snacks and wallet!

orangina · 24/03/2018 17:00

DS (age 11) has chosen this as his favourite backpack. He always has the following in his backpack:

Bottle of water
Snack
Epipen
Wallet
Phone
Books
Pencil case
iPod

The straps look comfortable, but it is not too big, so hopefully won't get too heavy, which is good.

CathBookworm · 24/03/2018 17:17

Love this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-leaf-backpack. I bung in kindle, make up bag, snacks, bottle of water and purse.

burwellmum · 24/03/2018 19:19

I think the HYPE SILVER REFLECTIVE DUFFLE BAG would be most use - one of the kids could get overnight things in it for a sleep over. School ones have to be much more boring than anything I've seen.
I like a bag with pockets and lots of storage.

RainyDaisy · 24/03/2018 19:44

I like a roomy backpack that fits iPad, headphones, snacks, books, for when I'm travelling.

I really love pockets to keep valuables separate. But not too many that I can't remember where things are!

I love all the designs!!! The silver sparkly ones, the rainbow one, but I think my favorite is the the Hype Burgundy Embossed Script BackPack.

vickyors · 24/03/2018 20:09

This is our favourite. Our necessary things are a water bottle pocket, and front pocket for snacks and tissues. Oh, and wipe down for stains or when it falls in the mud!
