This activity is now closed

A sturdy backpack that can take pretty much anything you throw in it and also looks stylish, is often a must-have for both parents and children alike. HYPE would love you or your DC to take a look at their website not only choose your favourite backpack but also share what your backpack essentials are.

Here’s what HYPE have to say: “You’ll make heads turn and jealousy begin with a HYPE bag in hand. Our backpacks are perfect for those days when you’ve got the world to carry on your back, literally, for every moment. Whether you're packing your go-to flight essentials or your DC is heading to their mates for a sleepover, our backpacks are here for every occasion! Our most-sought-after Black with white speckle is for those who like things a little subtler. Sizing at 41 x 31cm our backpacks are the perfect size to keep all of your essentials in one safe place. Want something a bit louder? Choose from our current best-seller, the all over mature floral print or the classic holographic.”

Take a look at the HYPE website here and select yours or your DCs favourite backpack and post it on the thread (ideally with a link for everyone interested in your favourite).

We would also love to know what yours or your DCs backpack essentials are. Do you have to have a backpack with as many pockets as possible to fit all your little bit and bobs in? Perhaps your DC is all about how the bag looks and which backpack will make them stand out the most? Or maybe you have to have a backpack that is spacious enough to fit every single thing you own in it?

Tell us yours or your DC’s backpack essentials, as well as your favourite HYPE backpack from their website and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list). Plus HYPE will also be giving 4 MNers their favourite backpack that they selected from the site!

Thanks and good luck!

DCs schools are sticklers for no obtrusive branding/wild colours but I think this backpack fits the bill nicely.

Backpacks generally seem unable to combine durability with interesting design. Primarily, I want one that lasts and lasts. Side pockets or nets are essential for water bottles and other last minute grabs. They also need to be huge. They never seem big enough to accommodate the number of files and textbooks that they have to carry daily. Anything that will help them with their back health and posture; I do worry that they are doing themselves dreadful damage.

I love this one

Essentials in a backpack are
Front pockets to put keys, ( preferably with a key holder)oyster card, pens , wallet etc.

Margomyhero · 20/03/2018 00:07

I loved the vintage rose design backpack.

Perfect for spring summer.

I like to carry a bottle of water at all times so I need a generous sized bag.

Dixiestampsagain · 20/03/2018 01:34

My DS likes the black and white speckle and the navy splat!
We tend to travel quite light but always like to have room for bottles of water, chargers, zippable pockets for medication, padded straps etc. Ours has served us well but is just about in its last legs!

beargryllshasabigrope · 20/03/2018 02:36

I use a backpack as a changing bag so my essentials are very sensible things like nappies, wipes, toys, snacks and a pen and paper. I have 3 children aged 1-6 so I need a variety of stuff to keep them all happy - and as such I need a big bag to shove it all in!

I love this one

Yellow is my favourite colour, and after years of having a boring old black nike bag I would love something a bit more exciting to lug around with me on days out.

VileyRose · 20/03/2018 07:01

Loveeeee this

strawberrypenguin · 20/03/2018 11:35

I love this one. Got a bit of colour but not garish burgundy

I actually use a Hype backpack as a change bag. It's fab, can easily fit in a change of clothes, nappies, wipes, juice bottle and snack with room to spare. It's nice and sturdy and still going strong after a year of hard use.

1moreRep · 20/03/2018 11:41

my dad would love this www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-pink-holographic-backpack-28dc1f
i think you should do a cheerleading one as that's what she would use it for

RueDeWakening · 20/03/2018 13:30

DD likes this one: www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-abstract-rose-backpack (and says you don't have enough purple backpacks to pick from!).

I like this: www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/holographic-backpacks/hype-silver-holographic-backpack

Backpack essentials:
Sturdy and padded straps.
Sturdy zip (the number I've had where the zip has broken is untrue).
Water resistant.
Strong handle on the top to grab it by.
At least 3 sections, ideally one big enough for tech - kindle, laptop etc.
Loop for attaching keys to.
Water bottle holder on the side.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/03/2018 14:17

My favourite was this one - mainly because I love the colour.

The things that matter most to me in a backpack are:

Sturdy construction - I don't want one that falls apart.

Roomy enough for my tablet, book and knitting.

Handle on top, so it is easy to pick up and carry.

I would love to find dh's perfect backpack - he used to have an Eastpak one that would open out flat, had a handle on top and one on the side, plenty of compartments, and had room for his work laptop and a change of clothing, but sadly the zips failed - in fact, we had two, but ds2 used the other one, and when the cat wee'd on it, he threw it away, and we didn't find out in time to retrieve it from the bin and wash it.

Eastpak don't do this particular backpack any more, and dh still mourns it slightly, from time to time, and if I found him an equivalent product elsewhere, he'd be really chuffed.

NauticalDisaster · 20/03/2018 15:54

We like the space themed ones especially this one.

Sturdiness, secure pockets, and reflective stripe are key features for me.

4yoniD · 20/03/2018 20:00

I'd like this one because I like the nasa look www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-navy-space-patch-backpack and it looks really practical - I hate loads of fiddly pockets/sections.

DD would like this one, although I think it's a bit shocking! At least it looks wipe clean... www.justhype.co.uk/hype-pink-holographic-backpack-28dc1f

RumTiTum · 20/03/2018 20:06

Dd likes, www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-speckle-backpack-998f29 it's like the sky at night.

We look for a separate pocket for water bottle to avoid spillages, a padded section for school ipad, secure inside pocket for purse, but most important comfortable straps.

flamingtoaster · 20/03/2018 20:31

My favourite is the Hype Beach Backpack - we go to the beach a lot and the sea is donereally well in this design. Backpack essentials are thick/padded straps that don't dig into shoulders, lots of pockets, sturdy zips that run smoothly and don't stick, lockable, easy to clean, and waterproof.

Maiyakat · 20/03/2018 20:45

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-baby-pink-speckle-backpack-f10197

DD would love this, pink with more pink, can't go wrong!

dilydaly · 20/03/2018 22:05

My DD's favourite is this pastel one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-pastel-stroke-backpack

Our backpack essentials are that it's spacious, can fit everything she needs for school and still have plenty of space for the days when she has to take extra things like her gym kit etc. I also like it to be wipe clean.

lollylaus · 20/03/2018 22:18

My sons favourite is the space one...www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-acid-space-backpack

Our back pack essentials are always some good and drink items! In the summer it's sun hats and sun cream too and some change for the arcade games on the pier or an icecream!

Dan35 · 20/03/2018 22:46

HYPE RIP STOP QUAD POCKET BACKPACK - as many pockets as possible are needed for phones, chargers etc..!

Theimpossiblegirl · 20/03/2018 22:53

Teen DD would like this one Hype Pink Holographic Backpack for Reading Festival.

QuickQuickSloe · 20/03/2018 22:53

I like this one, the colours are fresh and clean. www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-mint-speckle-backpack-163853

I'm on maternity leave at the moment and am looking for a back pack to make carrying daily essentials on my back easier while carrying DD on my front! My change bag strap keeps slipping off when she's in the carrier and it's a pita.

Ideal features for me would be waterproof, easy access pocket for purse/phone/keys, comfy straps and room for nappies/ wipes/ other baby stuff.

When I go back to work same features but sufficient padding to keep an iPad safe when gently dropped to the floor and room for A4 size books.

QuickQuickSloe · 20/03/2018 22:54

Also a little hole for my ear buds would be marvellous.

c75kp0r · 20/03/2018 23:56

Essentials - it needs to stay up on your shoulder without sliding off even if you only have one strap over one shoulder

HYPE SILVER REFLECTIVE BACKPACK TRAVELLER would be my favourite though I wouldn't be buying it based on the pitiful amount of information given (see below) If it is reflective, that would be good for cycling which is why I'd pick this one. The description doesn't confirm if it really is made of reflective material - most of the blurb is guff about bat guano and Bangkok. That space could have been used to give decent information about the backpack including its actual size.

It needs to have pockets inside - I can't tell if it does from the description given.

Somewhere I can attach my work ID and my keys. I think there is a loop on the zip pull that I can tie things on to - but the picture could show that more clearly... I might need to go for one that has a handle at the top that I could tie my stuff to if the zip pull doesn't have a loop.

Needs to take A4 folder - size of backpacks not stated

Needs some level of rain resistance and wipe clean or washable - I certainly wouldn't be wandering around with bat guano or stains on my backpack. No info about what its made from. You do know that can get nasty diseases from bat shit??

janney3 · 21/03/2018 04:45

This is our favourite one.
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-sand-marble-backpack

Looks a bit different to the usual plain black.

Essential criteria for a backpack in this house are - side pockets for drinks, a main compartment with a little zip purse pocket inside for keys, earphones and then a smaller back of front main section , small pocket on the front for easy access to items.
Wide comfy , adjustable straps and made of strong material that is showerproof.

tigga61 · 21/03/2018 05:18

I realy like this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-sponge-backpack-box, sponge backpack box this will be ideal for when i go on a short break to scotland as staying in a uber posh hotel and my boring black suitcase doesnt cut it this would be much easier than lugging any case about for a one night stay.
