This activity is now closed

A sturdy backpack that can take pretty much anything you throw in it and also looks stylish, is often a must-have for both parents and children alike. HYPE would love you or your DC to take a look at their website not only choose your favourite backpack but also share what your backpack essentials are.

Here’s what HYPE have to say: “You’ll make heads turn and jealousy begin with a HYPE bag in hand. Our backpacks are perfect for those days when you’ve got the world to carry on your back, literally, for every moment. Whether you're packing your go-to flight essentials or your DC is heading to their mates for a sleepover, our backpacks are here for every occasion! Our most-sought-after Black with white speckle is for those who like things a little subtler. Sizing at 41 x 31cm our backpacks are the perfect size to keep all of your essentials in one safe place. Want something a bit louder? Choose from our current best-seller, the all over mature floral print or the classic holographic.”

Take a look at the HYPE website here and select yours or your DCs favourite backpack and post it on the thread (ideally with a link for everyone interested in your favourite).

We would also love to know what yours or your DCs backpack essentials are. Do you have to have a backpack with as many pockets as possible to fit all your little bit and bobs in? Perhaps your DC is all about how the bag looks and which backpack will make them stand out the most? Or maybe you have to have a backpack that is spacious enough to fit every single thing you own in it?

Tell us yours or your DC’s backpack essentials, as well as your favourite HYPE backpack from their website and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list). Plus HYPE will also be giving 4 MNers their favourite backpack that they selected from the site!

Thanks and good luck!

I love the colour of this one!

Lots of storage components, outer pocket for phone AND wallet, and a waterproof-ish material.

According to dd it’s all about pastels, and this fits right into the most on-trend colour scheme!
She carries around a awful lot of stuff, so the bag itself should be as lightweight as possible. Comfy straps are a must, and a bit of padding for the back is good, too.

buckley1983 · 24/03/2018 21:30

I love a backpack & wish I had used one instead of a change bag when LO was tiny!
They are so much easier to carry & a lot easier to find what you need when you have the separate compartments!
My favourite is this one;
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-with-white-and-reflective-speckle-backpack
I love the look of it & I the reflective speckle is a great idea - particularly for night time walks/bike rides/camping.
In terms of what I look for in a backpack - I like it to be spacious, comfortable to wear, easy to access compartments & a few zipped compartments inside to keep things you need to access quickly - keys, purse, etc. It's also handy to have a section for paperwork/documents on the inside back of the bag (the bit against your bag!).
My backpack essentials are bottle of water, keys, purse, lip balm, hairgrips, clean pants & trousers for LO, wipes, a couple of toy cars & a pack of Top Trumps.. I accidentally took a toy car into court once (in a work capacity!) & it showed up on the x-ray of my bag - I tried to look professional about it but it gave the security guards a chuckle!

honeyandginger48 · 24/03/2018 21:48

My choice would be this one. I just like the design.

Backpacks for my dd need to be comfy, and strong enough to hold loads of heavy text books.

helivalentin · 24/03/2018 22:04

My son loved the www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-with-white-and-reflective-speckle-backpack . It looked cool according to my son and I loved the reflective speckles as they'd make wearing the backpack safer in the Winter time. And it's the perfect size for all the school essentials; pens, rulers, erasers, art kit and the school books.

HouseOfMadness · 24/03/2018 22:31

My favourite is the Hype navy traveller back pack (sorry, can’t get the link to work). At the moment I am using my eldests old backbag which is 5 years old and finally starting to fall apart.
I love navy and this bag is ideal for what I need it for. I cycle to work everyday whilst also doing the school run so need room for any extras my child can’t manage in their bag to and from school, my shoes, lunch, makeup bag, work clothes (if I’ve chosen to wear something unsuitable for cycling) and I often pop to the supermarket before I head home so need room for shopping too.
The clips at the front of the bag are ideal for attaching extra bags to and the pockets are perfect for storing my phone and keys. Easily adjustable and comfy straps are a must, plus a hook to hang my bag in my shared locker at work. This bag looks as though it would fit the bill !!

Hs2Issue · 25/03/2018 05:55

Dd was saying yesterday she wanted a new backpack before our holiday. These look just perfect for her enough space for her animals she has in bed and a separate place for her book.

She'd love the www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-pool-cloud-backpack

Her favouite colour is blue and this is individual enough to find it amongst other bags.

TroubleInSnowland · 25/03/2018 08:28

I like so many of these bags. This morning, this one makes me happy as it reminds me of sunny days www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-sand-backpack.

I like a bag to have some internal pockets to hold a laptop or tablet, a pocket big enough to hold a water bottle and then some smaller pockets so that I don’t lose pens and my phone.
Ds likes his bag to have a big internal space to fit all his school bags in but doesn’t really like pockets for organisation whereas ds loves pockets.

Kcowen · 25/03/2018 08:29

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-silver-holographic-backpack
I asked my DD and she said definitely the shiny funky silver one!
Backpack essentials have to be zip pockets, a ring or somewhere to attach jazzy key rings, comfy and adjustable straps so we can swap and take turns who is carrying, “has to look cool mam”, wide enough for packed lunch boxes and separate drinks pouch is helpful too!

SnowbellinA · 25/03/2018 08:33

My dc have Hype backpacks for school and we all think they're great.
DD's bag is still going strong 17 months later, although I might treat her to a new one with the Mumsnet discount.
Ds got the black and white speckled bag for Christmas and it's still like new.

Essentials to take in our backpack for a day out are: a bottle of water, purse, snacks, spare clothes!

These are our two favourite bags at the moment:

My DS bought this one yesterday with some of his Christmas money, he is beside himself with excitement and it took ages for him to decide!
space acid

This one is my favourite.

GoofyIsACow · 25/03/2018 08:44

Forgot to say I look for wide comfy straps, good pockets and not too heavy before anything is in it.

TheJunctionBaby · 25/03/2018 09:04

Both of my teenaged DC have hype backpacks. My son's favorite, and the one he has, is the black with white speckle www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-speckle-backpack

We all love backpacks with plenty of pockets - hidden ones are a bonus - but also for me, wide straps are important because I used to get pains in my shoulders from caring heavy books in bags with this straps that dug in. A water bottle pocket is also very useful

nerysw · 25/03/2018 09:12

These look great, my daughter would love any of the holographic ones. My backpack essentials would be drinks, snacks, pens and tissues but my husband would insist on a grid-it (thank you mumsnet for excellent gifting tips).

Lurleene · 25/03/2018 09:54

I like this one as it will go with lots of my clothes and is smart enough for work.

Having looked at the website I was pleasantly surprised to see Hype do bags other than backpacks, I hadn't realised.

RadiatorQuays · 25/03/2018 13:28

So I asked my 13 year old son which backpack he would like and I surprisingly got a full 10 minute conversation with him (which is more than I've managed to get out of him this whole weekend)

Apparantly these bags are 'really cool' and 'everyone has them' (His level of enthusiasm shopping through them was actually quite impressive)

He decided he likes this one best, when pressed why he said 'dunno, I like the dark at the top. And it looks kinda snowy

Its this one here for anyone that's interested, will add photo too

I actually really like it too. I can see us fighting over it Grin

I really like the picket on the front.

My main criteria for backpacks odd lots of space, pockets and wide comfortable straps. I don't wear handbags it's always backpacks so they do have to be able to fit a fair amount of shopping in and be easy on the shoulders

If I did win though I would give it to D'S, his bag isn't a brand and I don't think I'm cool enough for HYPE stuff Blush

Both my daughter and I love the Vintage Rose one - so we could share it!
Essentials - wipes and hand gel, carry them everywhere.
I do like a separate pocket in there that I can put my keys in - rather than keep losing them, loose in the bottom of my bag!

fairiedemon · 25/03/2018 18:43

This is my fave one as it just screams to my sense of style:

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-teal-velvet-backpack

I only have 3 essential features I need from a backpack. It must fit a laptop, must have comfy straps and must not be bulky. Saying all this I am currently carting around a 10 year old Wenger about the same width I am - time for an upgrade!

ilovekitkats · 25/03/2018 21:09

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-vintage-rose-backpack

I like the above bag, but I wouldn’t buy it at that price.

Also there’s only one pocket. I like a backpack to have 2-3 pockets to put different things in.

There are not enough photos on the website to show the bags. I assume this is one external pocket, none internal.

gemmie797 · 25/03/2018 21:54

My son is mad for anything Hype. He has the green speckled backpack atm (left in photo) which he loves. It's got loads of room inside for all of his school work plus lunch and drink.
He usually loves a lot of pattern but he loved the shape and colour of the burgundy traveller.
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-burgundy-traveller-backpack
It can be hard to find a nice bag which will hold a lot of kid paraphernalia for holidays and this one looks perfect. I like compartments to section off a bag so everything doesn't just fall into the bottom of he bag. All of the electronics need to be able to fit in, plus snacks, drinks and books. The branding isn't too OTT, nice & subtle. We both love it (which doesn't always happen!)

My son is autistic and obsessed with Pokemon, he got an amazing pokemon hype bag as a nice go between his obsession while still being able to attempt to “fit in” at high school.
However it broke after a couple of months and couldn’t find a replacement anywhere. Have opted for an Adidas bag instead as I couldn’t believe how quickly the hype one broke. Pity really.

I really like this one ...
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-with-white-and-reflective-speckle-backpack
I like a backpack with a few pockets inside and a padded section for a laptop

Devilishpyjamas · 26/03/2018 07:57

I realise I’m not really your market (nearly 50) but i’m not keen on all the labels, tassels etc. I like this one www.justhype.co.uk/hype-navy-traveller-backpack-92e42f?___store=store_hype_uk&nosto=nosto-page-product1

Also like this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-tape-backpack-wrap

My main requirement is for something sturdy and robust. The kids are fussier about brands. Especially the 16 year old but ‘acceptable’ brands change all the time

Goingovertosusanshouse · 26/03/2018 10:15

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-vintage-rose-backpack
I love this one!
Love a backpack. Lots of pockets a must a padded, adjustable straps. I carry so much stuff about. Mostly snacks and wet wipes!

lovemyflipflops · 26/03/2018 10:19

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-khaki-military-backpack was the choice of my DS. His backpack essentials are his notepad and pen for taking down bus registration numbers, bottle of water, woolley hat and gloves and a couple of oatcakes. He loved the khaki colour and would love a lunchbox in the same colour, and with all the pockets, he can put his essentials in an orderly manner, easy to find, organise.
