This activity is now closed

A sturdy backpack that can take pretty much anything you throw in it and also looks stylish, is often a must-have for both parents and children alike. HYPE would love you or your DC to take a look at their website not only choose your favourite backpack but also share what your backpack essentials are.

Here’s what HYPE have to say: “You’ll make heads turn and jealousy begin with a HYPE bag in hand. Our backpacks are perfect for those days when you’ve got the world to carry on your back, literally, for every moment. Whether you're packing your go-to flight essentials or your DC is heading to their mates for a sleepover, our backpacks are here for every occasion! Our most-sought-after Black with white speckle is for those who like things a little subtler. Sizing at 41 x 31cm our backpacks are the perfect size to keep all of your essentials in one safe place. Want something a bit louder? Choose from our current best-seller, the all over mature floral print or the classic holographic.”

Take a look at the HYPE website here and select yours or your DCs favourite backpack and post it on the thread (ideally with a link for everyone interested in your favourite).

We would also love to know what yours or your DCs backpack essentials are. Do you have to have a backpack with as many pockets as possible to fit all your little bit and bobs in? Perhaps your DC is all about how the bag looks and which backpack will make them stand out the most? Or maybe you have to have a backpack that is spacious enough to fit every single thing you own in it?

Tell us yours or your DC’s backpack essentials, as well as your favourite HYPE backpack from their website and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list). Plus HYPE will also be giving 4 MNers their favourite backpack that they selected from the site!

Thanks and good luck!

for me it needs to have enough space/pockets to carry the essentials. looks are not important

howvever my DC thinks differently, it needs to look the part and the rest will fall into place is her motto

Who knew there could be such a choice in back packs, some very nice ones on there. My essentials for my kids are multiple pockets, I also like a water bottle pocket on the outside to avoid leaky bottles. Studs on the bottom are also handy to avoid muddy/wet bottoms! Hook on the top to hang and wide padded adjustable straps.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 15/03/2018 22:04

I like the urban spray backpack. It’s nice and colourful.
Dds nursery bag has all of our essentials in. Change of clothes, plastic bag for any wet things, coat, wellies, hat, gloves, dummy and lamby the oh so imaginatively names stuffed sheep.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/03/2018 22:35

My eldest has recently bought a hype backpack in sand camo. She wanted the same brand bag as her friends but the fabric choice is very her, whereas her friends have chosen 'prettier' fabrics. I like the fact she can belong yet still express herself. She says a big front pocket for her phone is essential. She also carrys pencilcase, notebook, school books, hair bobble, tissues and a water bottle.

My daughter likes the prettier styles, www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-urban-spray-backpack multi urban spray being the object of her desires but she would fill it with adventuring essentials like a map, binoculars, a compass, and crayon and paper to do bark rubbings!

Rollerbird · 15/03/2018 23:02

I love this one
www.justhype.co.uk/hype-black-mono-fade-backpack
It's classy
It is good having the black at the bottom
Easy to keep clean, pockets, easy to fit loads in for work Or when out with baby.
It looks the part and less formal than a handbag but great with your outfit

The kids say they like lots of pockets.

For me it's good straps, comfortable fit, easy on/off, enough room, a few good sized pockets and a strong well designed zip. Separate area for laptop is good.

I've not found the perfect backpack - I have 3 I use regularly depending on my day/needs.

There isn't enough info about the Hype backpacks for me to purchase one online. I can't even tell what the size is! But the colour range is good.

NeverTwerkNaked · 16/03/2018 07:53

I really like this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-navy-ocean-fade-backpack

Essentials would be a small inner compartment for things like keys/wallet (don’t want to rummage for them, don’t want to have them in an outside pocket)
Other key features - robust zips that don’t get stuck or come undone easily; a main big compartment plus a smaller one; easy to clean; appealing design!

ParadiseCity · 16/03/2018 08:32

They are big enough for A4 stuff, DS has had a few of them. They don't last that long unfortunately.

I have to add a huge WTF at the jealousy thing in the OP. Kids have a shitty enough time with peer pressure and fitting in. Hype has gone down in my estimation. 'Make your friends jealous' is a really really shit usp Hmm and you should hang your heads in shame.

kateandme · 16/03/2018 09:23

i love the mustard yellow and burgundy embossed one.
its needs a big inner psace and not just padding so that there is lenty of room in the main area.but also need those essential zipped inner pocket or zipped outer ones.straps need to be comfy pcoekt secure and so that when things in them they wont shove into your back or take up inner space.

kateandme · 16/03/2018 09:25

id love it though if you would do some atchel over shoulder bags please.they are my fave and in your style I think they would look amazing

sarat1 · 16/03/2018 09:35

Love the Vintage Rose design www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-vintage-rose-backpack

Must have plenty of storage space but compartments are particularly important to help me stay organised and get things quickly.

WeeMadArthur · 16/03/2018 09:46

Our favourite is this one www.justhype.co.uk/hype-speckle-backpack-fa6afd?___store=store_hype_uk&nosto=nosto-page-product1 and the essentials are a separate bottle holder, internal pocket for valuables, waterproof and robust, it needs to last a full year.

I am a bit disappointed in the lack of details on the website, there are no size measurements for the bags so I have no idea if they are big enough to take A4 folders etc. I wouldn’t buy direct from the website because of this.

ReelingLush18 · 16/03/2018 09:52

This one. We are a car-free family so it's particularly important to 'show up' in the dark. This rucksack is just quirky, edgy enough to get the thumbs up from DD. And I love it because I know it would keep her safe when out and about, particularly on dark winter nights when she's wearing her school uniform.

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-with-white-and-reflective-speckle-backpack

Hmm. Essentials. Tissues, a book to read, notebook and pen, make-up essentials (lipstick and mascara), small tube of handcream. Phone/or iPad. Possibly a bottle of water depending on length of time out and about.

Yes, prefer compartments for ease of access/finding. And wide, adjustable straps to maximise comfort.

Silver holographic. DD and me just love that look.

Backpacks....mmmmmh, still seeking the perfect on. I like the cross shoulder ones and am a fan of lots of types of pockets. DD seems to have to carry the world on her back to school, so roomy and light is best.

My DC's favourite at the moment is
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-x-spongebob-sandy-space-backpack as they are a huge SpongeBob fan. My oldest DC has one of the speckled ones which they love. It can certainly hold all the folders and books that they need for school and PE kit and pack lunch so it is really roomy. I always use a backpack as I do a lot of walking and carry shopping home and this would be perfect www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-tonal-traveller-backpack-e208ca

I carry my life around - I like lots of pockets - I always have water bottles, extra layers, wet wipes, bus map - all sorts!

itsonlysubterfuge · 16/03/2018 10:35

DD's favorite backpack no surprises it's pink! However her real favorite is her Hype Spongebob backpack with all the Spongebob character's on it, but it doesn't look like that one is a available anymore.

We normally use our backpacks's for day's out and holidays. So my backpack needs space for the things I want to take, but more importantly I need a lot of different pockets. I need one up front for easy to reach things like baby wipes, sick bag, medicines, etc. I need a medium sized one for snacks. I need a bigger one for entertainment like colouring books, reading books, etc. A side pocket for a water bottle is also really useful.

starlingsintheslipstream · 16/03/2018 11:18

There's no doubt Hype backpacks are the in thing round here. I just wish they were a touch bigger. DS1 wanted one for secondary school but I gave up on it after repairing it several times due to him squashing his PE kit in there twice a week and ripping the seams. It's not quite big enough for his school needs but great for day trips or weekends away.

I like this one and would be keen to see if it is really reflective.

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-reflective-reflective-backpack

So my backpack requirements are for them to be spacious and have comfy straps. An external water bottle holder is also a great idea.

omnishambles · 16/03/2018 11:43

DS (14) will only entertain a plain black backpack and it can't have any logos on at all so he would have to have this one:

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/plain-backpacks/hype-woven-tab-backpack

He normally has school books, inappropriate bottled drinks, sports kit + football boots (would like a dry bag area for them) and his pencil case.

If he is going back and forth to his dads then it will sometimes have a laptop and clothes as well.

Size and resilience is the key, not looks.

Strigiformes · 16/03/2018 12:57

I've not heard of Hype before and was impressed at the choice on the website. My favourite rucksack is the navy space patch bag. I love how retro it is. The most useful things that rucksacks can have is lots of storage. Also being waterproof inside and out is a bonus. www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-navy-space-patch-backpack

WhereDoAllThePokemonGo · 16/03/2018 13:14

The space patch one is my favourite (www.justhype.co.uk/hype-navy-space-patch-backpack). The ideal backpack for me is one with plenty of useful sized compartments, some of which have a zip fastening!

Wow! I've never come across these before, there's some amazing bags on here. I know for sure that my teenage DS would love this bag. He uses a backpack alot as he uses one for school and when he goes out on his bike to carry all his stuff. Things that I think are helpful when choosing a backpack are wide sturdy straps and also a strong base as that's where backpacks seem to tear with my DC as they usually have to carry quite alot around with them.
