This activity is now closed

A sturdy backpack that can take pretty much anything you throw in it and also looks stylish, is often a must-have for both parents and children alike. HYPE would love you or your DC to take a look at their website not only choose your favourite backpack but also share what your backpack essentials are.

Here’s what HYPE have to say: “You’ll make heads turn and jealousy begin with a HYPE bag in hand. Our backpacks are perfect for those days when you’ve got the world to carry on your back, literally, for every moment. Whether you're packing your go-to flight essentials or your DC is heading to their mates for a sleepover, our backpacks are here for every occasion! Our most-sought-after Black with white speckle is for those who like things a little subtler. Sizing at 41 x 31cm our backpacks are the perfect size to keep all of your essentials in one safe place. Want something a bit louder? Choose from our current best-seller, the all over mature floral print or the classic holographic.”

Take a look at the HYPE website here and select yours or your DCs favourite backpack and post it on the thread (ideally with a link for everyone interested in your favourite).

We would also love to know what yours or your DCs backpack essentials are. Do you have to have a backpack with as many pockets as possible to fit all your little bit and bobs in? Perhaps your DC is all about how the bag looks and which backpack will make them stand out the most? Or maybe you have to have a backpack that is spacious enough to fit every single thing you own in it?

Tell us yours or your DC’s backpack essentials, as well as your favourite HYPE backpack from their website and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list). Plus HYPE will also be giving 4 MNers their favourite backpack that they selected from the site!

Thanks and good luck!

I think this is my fave. Just about. It was a tough call. I liked a few of the speckle ones too

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-burgundy-embossed-script-backpack

As for backpack essentials I had a Jansport bag that i had for nearly ten years and did me through college, uni, 2 festivals, various weekends away in the UK and Europe and then became my gym bag. It was a sad day when it broke and not been able to find one that matched it. But it was perfect so the essentials are plenty of deceiving space. I don't want it Bergen size but big enough to get 2 change of clothes and toiletries in there. Straps that I can have quite loose. A padded back and decent padded straps. Not too many compartments. A main compartment and maybe 1/2 zipped sections. Otherwise I just lose stuff

Really like this one - www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-burgundy-sunrise-rose-backpack

My daughter has a hype bag and it is great! Big enough for all of her essentials and books with enough pockets and sections to keep things separate, but not too many that you have no idea where things are! It looks great after a year of use and is comfortable to wear. The designs are appealing too - there is something for everyone.

My eight year old son chose this one as he is all about standing out from his friends! His essentials include space for his schoolwork ..... also space for his jacket as he is too cool to wear one and school now he has reached the dizzy age of eight, so he would rather catch a cold looking cool! He also has a selection of pens, pencils and other assorted stationary related items, plus it needs room for a drinks bottle. It needs to be tough enough to withstand the trauma of the playground and easy to wipe clean. It also needs lots of pockets for his various 'collections' which he takes into school, including tubs of slime with dodgy lids!

cannotmakemymindup · 18/03/2018 00:40

Oh so many good ones to choose from.
For myself it would be www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-multi-teal-bird-backpack because I love floral and bright colours. Pretty sure my Dd would love it to.
I wasn't sure how many compartments internally the backpack has as it isn't clear from description. However a good backpack would include at least one internal large pocket and a good sized pocket externally. I like it when you can clip the top of the bag, to make it more secure and robust. A good base as well so when its full it doesn't cave, bend or bulge. Mainly used for day trips, holidays etc,. Essential to make the day easier so you can have hands free to eat ice-creams, take pictures and generally enjoy yourself. So carrying a mixture of dc clothes change, purse, a little food and drink. It's a Mary Poppins bag.

Starhttps://www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-primary-backpack-2089b7[star]

I love the speckled affect on the bag, and I think it's important to have a bag they reflects the wearer. I might be a mum, but that doesn't mean I have to look like one.

My baby girls nappies would be traveling in style in this bag, with this hanging off my pram! Star

OutComeTheWolves · 18/03/2018 07:21

Backpack essentials: it needs to look good, have lots of space and lots of different pockets.

The kids are too young to pick a favourite but this is mine:

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-with-white-and-reflective-speckle-backpack was picked after a long look and deliberation. In this would go his treasures, favourite car, tissues, antibac gel, pen and note pad and a flapjack bar.

SusanWalker · 18/03/2018 11:28

Dd loves this one:

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-speckle-backpack

Her essentials are her inhaler and spacer, her glasses, her phone and she almost always has her sports kit as she does a sports club at school most days.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 18/03/2018 11:53

It would be any of the holographic ones, but THIS in particular is now on a birthday list!

Backpacks have to be big because they always want to take so much with them, and 'pretty', the definition of which is different for each DC! I like lots of pockets so you don't have to rummage around trying to find what you need

eyesonme · 18/03/2018 13:26

pongopig · 18/03/2018 13:36

I just lost a good 20 mins browsing the range of backpacks. I think this is my favourite

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-black-speckle-fade-backpack-traveller

I really like the ones where one colour fades into another.

My DCs backpack essentials would be drink, house keys, school books, some money and probably some squashed sweets or half eaten pack of biscuits. I usually use a backpack on days out so essentials would include sunglasses, sun cream and emergency snacks.

Cantwait4summer · 18/03/2018 14:01

Oh this was tough for me and my dd ! Lovely selection ! DD loves this one

www.justhype.co.uk/hype-multi-floral-backpack

Essentials would be plenty inside pockets to.separate her essentials and retrieve her items easier from bag ! And good back straps helps too . Bag has to look.cool to hang out in style with friends Smile

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-blue-gridwork-backpack

Oh and that one is my fav ! I live near the beach it would look fab to carry our beach essentials in it ! ( even the pom.pom is cute !)

tangledyarn · 18/03/2018 14:51

I really like the hype beach backpack. I have to use a backpack everyday for work, they never seem to last long so I like them to be sturdy, with padded wide straps and big enough to hold a4 files etc. Its good if they have a few separate pockets for keys, phone, medication, purse etc.

Playdohnut · 18/03/2018 16:03

[https://www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-x-turtles-military-backpack]] I love this one because it has so many useful pocket bits. Great for all the stuff you need to cart around with kids. Sunblock in one, water bottle in another, snacks, wipes... so useful. It would be even better if it came in other colours...

For the kids, they love to accessorise their bags so zip tags or whatever that they can clip random fluffy keyrings, tassles or whatever to are essential.

TopangaD · 18/03/2018 17:20

My DD and I both love the velvet teal one. She is 10 so her essentials are school things and a safe pocket for her slime pots. For me I need it to be comfy and be able to look smart for work, and hold my make up, lunch, notebooks, and spare pair of shoes!
Fingers crossed!

RockafellerSkank · 18/03/2018 17:28

Velour for me! VELOUR

Silverstreaks · 18/03/2018 17:43

I've actually just bought one of these for 11 yr old DD. Her Harry Potter satchel is falling apart and apparently this will be great for secondary school. So, seeing as she now has one I looked through the site and found this velvet beauty that I would happily use.

minceandpotatoes · 18/03/2018 18:11

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-vintage-rose-backpack
My favourite backpack is this vintage rose one, and also the speckle backpacks in a variety of colours.
I take a backpack to work everyday. My backpack essentials are comfortable, adjustable straps, a padded compartment for my laptop, and being waterproof.

PinkUnicorn1990 · 18/03/2018 18:16

https://www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-grey-primary-splat-backpack

Love this one, looks good and I'm sure having a toddler it would have lots of space and the splat pattern would cover a multitude of sins Blush

LadyFuchsiaGroan · 18/03/2018 18:29

My DD picked this one in an instant www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-silver-holographic-backpack as she seems to love anything shiny, she's very magpie like Grin

For me an essential is that it is easy to keep clean (this looks like a wipe would keep it looking like new) and it looks like there would be plenty of space for all her bits that she insists on carrying around.

ncullinane · 18/03/2018 18:52

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-vintage-rose-backpack Love this one.

I literally have so much in my bag, nappies, wipes, change of outfit for baby, nappy cream, nappy bags, phone, purse, keys, lip balm, snacks, crayons, sticker/colouring book!

walkingtheplank · 18/03/2018 19:10

I like this one as it reminds me of one I had as a girl guide.

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-sand-camping-backpack

For me a back pack needs several pockets so purse/keys/phone aren't all in together as then you spend ages searchin for a them.

mumofelise · 18/03/2018 19:27

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-grey-taping-backpack-rolltop
I love this bag and know my teenage girls would be jealous. I like handles that are comfy, lots of pockets but also lots of space for notebooks, water bottle and iPad. I have purchased a few hype bags and think the quality if the bags is brilliant. The bags have lasted long after the school year has finished. I have stuck them in the washing machine loads and they are still perfect. Customer service is always brilliant too.
