Hi i have just received a renewal form as my child's dla runs out on 15/05/26. I was wondering how long renewals are taking for decisions. Many thanks.

OneSparklyGreyCat · 08/01/2026 12:51

also awaiting decision. NC SD 17/12

I phoned them just now. They confirmed that it is scanned but not with a decision maker yet.

Maybe I was being to optimistic that there wouldn’t be much of a wait since they scanned it the very next day they had received it.

Praying that the decision maker will be sensible and agree. I can’t help but feel anxious seeing so many post about needing an MR.

How long do they take to pay backdated child element with UC once you give them information about the change and new award

I originally sent the forms back on 30/12 sent them signed for. Then I received a text in 31/12 to say they had received the forms. Then received the letter yesterday 07/01 about my sons name not matching their records. I sent the birth certificate back yesterday 1st class signed for along with some extra evidence that I received. So now it’s just a waiting game 🙈

So frustrating I’ve had no text or nothing from them to say they’ve received it. I’ve just called them they said they still couldn’t locate it but the guy was great and said let me try something else. They found it logged under my name and not my child’s apparently which is why they couldn’t find it. Mine was scanned in on 24/12 the same day they received it he said it’s just waiting to go to a decision maker x

JenniJay16 · 08/01/2026 14:04

Decision made - rejected again 😕Not even sure where to go because she had an arguement for everything i pointed out. Do i just appeal again and send a letter detailing her days? Or just i just wait until formal diagnosis at which point school might actually start doing something official to help my DD and I can get evidence from the school as well then. Just feel a bit lost don't know where to turn or who to speak to

How does it work out so you inform them about change and then it goes to a decision maker? How long does that process take?

Tirednamechange · 08/01/2026 17:36

Coc and renewal sent before christmas. Renewal due 25/2 really hoping the do both a little bit sooner as we need a private ot report and backpayment would really help. I know hrm is incredibley hard to get under smi but wondering if anyone who has managed it could advise what evidence they had? I do think we should qualify but not sure the evidence is enough.

My son has just been awarded HRC and HRM from a renewal and COC, he is 4 and doesn’t yet have an autism diagnosis so was very shocked that we actually got it without fighting, I believe strangely enough one of my bigger pieces of evidence was an incident report that showed evidence of everything in his EHCP, EP report and SENDCO statement, I also done a sleep diary and also emails from the charity that provided us with the mobility pushchair to show that this had been requested by our HV due to safety reasons. X

This sounds very similar to my claim apart from I did not have an incident report to back what we have all said. Can I ask how long your award is for?

mum959 · 08/01/2026 20:07

positive post after waiting a long 33 weeks for a MR told Monday it still wasn’t assigned to a dm I made a complaint. I rang up today and they have finely made a decision I won the MR from a complete decline on renewal to giving us the whole award back an even making it longer. It’s been such a long few months but worth it in the end to get what my child was always entitled to 😄
my advice is keep fighting if you know your child is entitled you got this 💪

Thank you. We finally do have a autism diagnosis along with gdd and an ehcp now too. The problem is that most meltdowns and other severe behaviour doesn't happen when in nursery due to masking so I don't have any evidence for that other than what I've written. I don't think we will get it if I'm honest and I'm not sure I have enough fight in me right now to push for it.

Jade1018 · 08/01/2026 20:44

@Ema06 Yes of course! The award is for 2 years. I sent the COC off in September and renewal with incident report right at the end of Nov so if you have time get one in if you can

Jade1018 · 08/01/2026 20:51

@Tirednamechange Yeah that makes it difficult unfortunately, but I think sometimes we doubt our own report on things as we are not known as ‘professionals’ but really if anything we are the professionals of our child so our report and accounts on things should be taken just as seriously! I think wording is everything and it’s a part DWP easily try to trip parents up on sometimes. Hopefully you get a lovely DM as I think that makes all the difference too, such a long agonising process.

I hope so, I was as thorough as I could be with the form but at the end of the day moving up to high rate care would in itself make a huge difference. I think I'm also struggling with the word restraint because I'm not sure what degree of restraint they expect for a 5 year old and what counts.

mum959 · 08/01/2026 21:27

Once sent to decision maker ours took exactly 4 weeks for a decision letter, another letter for the amount and a date I would recieve payment by all the same day.

Edited

My NCs are 27/08 and the letter is just a generic letter. I wouldnt worry too much! Your scan date is fairly new and they are still working through december scan dates and theyre definitely not done in date order!
