Hey all, my little one was awarded DLA on the 7th of December. MRC and LRM which was backdated to the 31st of July. I updated my journal same day requesting disabled child element to be added and backdating was told they will investigate this. Heard nothing else so sent message in January to be told the same thing. I sent another message on 9th of February to be told its been sent to decision maker and as soon as they have an answer will update journal. Anyone else still waiting for element to be added as well as backdating???

Thankyou for the update it’s such a long wait for every step xx

It's just ridiculous the amount of time you have r to wait to get what you are owed! And having to wait 20 weeks for a decision for your child is just madness!
It's nothing but hurdles to get what you are entitled to.
I will be glad when this is over,.no more waiting hahax

So I’m looking at waiting longer then ??

Funny that I made the complaint on Friday and today they have done both the decision and the backpay 🤣 should get payment 3-5days...no need to wait til Xmas x 😂

6 weeks in I made the complaint, so Friday. Then today I got this.

How frustrating is this process , no one replies to the journal for days on end . Do they ever refuse to back date the disabled child element and/or carers element ?

Pixie2008 · 18/10/2024 21:51

I don’t understand why some people are waiting so much longer than others!

I’ve been waiting so far in total 15 weeks Monday!
It took 8 weeks & 1 day for the decision maker and on Tuesday will 7 weeks since the DM agreed special circumstances!

I’ve just checked my previous UC statements which have not updated yet so obviously no back payment soon!

8th July 2024 - received DLA award letter and updated journal as eldest was awarded DLA backdated to March 2024.
17th July 2024 - UC responded and sent to DM.
3rd September 2024 - Agreed special circumstances.

ScoobyBooby · 23/10/2024 13:50

Wow that’s disgraceful ! I hope it gets sorted for you quickly !

They are quick enough wanting the money back of us when they over pay us even when it’s not our fault !

Ive just had an updated statement from last month to include the carers element they missed off and it’s now gone to the decision maker not holding my breathe for a response anytime soon .
I just hope they allow the disabled child element
to be backdated for my son !

the whole system is a joke !

I don’t understand why everything has to be a waiting game or a battle!! If it’s not UC, DLA, waiting times to be tested/get diagnoses and even my DS EHCP - it’s so infuriating!!

I asked about it last week on my journal as well as another query regarding self employment and because I hadn’t heard back I phoned just before 5pm Monday evening!

The lady initially said it was still with DM, which I disputed so she looked into it “further” and said it can take 7 days to respond on journal!
She then pointed out to me that after that letter payments are usually issued within 6 - 7 days and to wait a bit longer which ended up with me politely flipping my lid! Took her a while to realise she was 6 - 7 days and that I had been waiting nearly 7 weeks! But as soon as I mentioned the word complaint she changed to posting on the journal and to expect a response by 6pm today (still not heard anything from my self employment query).

I received a response yesterday 12:30pm advising payment will be received tomorrow.

Good luck - Fingers crossed your process is much quicker than mine!
I really wouldn’t worry as when I’ve been searching etc as long as you notify with a month then it’s straight forward as you can’t notify of something you didn’t know! I agree with previous comments the process should be automated regarding the disability element!
If it’s been a while since you received DLA there’s a thread floating around that helps by mentioning what to quote (if you need help I can google again to find it) and a few commented to say they received the back payment. Some were quite a while as well. Some cases were silly though as UC should have used brains! Considering claims have to be verified between DLA/UC you would think that the rates would be correct as well as it’s shocking how many are not receiving the correct rate of child disabled element.

My complete timeframe for any non posters -

8th July 2024 - received DLA award letter and updated journal as eldest was awarded DLA backdated to March 2024.
17th July 2024 - UC responded and sent to DM.
26th July 2024 - I asked on journal the expected times.
6th August 2024 - UC responded advising unable to advise time scales.
3rd September 2024 - Agreed special circumstances.
16th October 2024 - Chased on journal
22nd October 2024 - Called UC who posted on the journal with a response needed by 23rd Oct 6pm.
23rd October 2024 - UC replied apologising for delay and that payment will be received 24th October.

Starlight0212 · 26/10/2024 10:48

It’s mad I made compliment to uc I waited 11 months dla decision I also ask uc to back date they said they don’t no how long it will take it been with dm for 4 weeks and Iv had no response just takes to long

ScoobyBooby · 26/10/2024 19:58

I notified UC within a month of me receiving the DLA letter . Literally told them the same day I got the letter they just didn’t tell me about changing the child’s section . I hate that journal with a passion , such a lack of communication .

I agree with you , they should put a note on the journal to say your awaiting a DLA decision , I just got told let us know . I’m new to UC so things kinds over lapped.

It really shouldn’t be that hard , they just make it hard for us . Everything like you said @Pixie2008 has to be so difficult ! Your timeframe is helpful too . Have you now actually received your backdated payment ?! x

Pixie2008 · 26/10/2024 20:23

@ScoobyBooby surprisingly yes! I received it Thursday like they quoted!

Thankfully I don’t tend to need to post on journal a lot as none of it is very user friendly!

It’s never ending like we haven’t got enough to do already! My DS sons school and SEND Team are blaming each other for my son’s ehcp review being overdue (due Nov 23), the next is 11/11/24! The only reason they’ve done is because I’ve chased!

Good luck in your waiting. Xx

ScoobyBooby · 26/10/2024 21:10

I haven’t had to post on the journal until all this DLA business !

oh it’s always someone else’s fault ! I
hope you get it sorted soon x

Thank you I will come back and update the thread whenever I hear back x

I need your help on understanding

Iv made complain got letter today 1st one explaining under special circumstances but then it say it will adjust the payment monthly?

but nothing about the back payment?

MotherAndDSon · 02/11/2024 18:42

Finally got my backdated payment for my child disability element. Took them 4 months to reply on my uc with a payment letter.
But nothing said about my backdated carer's element or payment, does anyone knows if you only get disability element backdated and not carer's element? XX

SearchingForSolitude · 03/11/2024 11:20

Carer’s element can be backdated, so comment on your journal again requesting it.

Thank you. XX

Honesty they don’t know their arse from their elbow !

ScoobyBooby · 15/11/2024 21:32

Wow honestly wasn’t expecting such a fast response considering others .

Decision maker has agreed special circumstances for both ! Letter says someone will be in touch to discuss any monies owed!

Babymama244 · 29/11/2024 22:30

this is the letter I received but nothing about back pay even though last month it showed on my journal payments I was entitled to the payment ? Is there a second letter to comform
backpay do you know ?

Universal credit and disabled child element backdating
ScoobyBooby · 30/11/2024 15:06

So yeah special circumstances have been agreed , so you will get the backpay . On your journal it should say someone will be in touch about any money owed. That letter is basically confirmation of the backpay being confirmed

they would have updated your claim so you got the correct payments last month .

all your previous statements will be changed to reflect this .

Babymama244 · 01/12/2024 18:49

@ScoobyBooby thank you, that letter was the only thing on my journal, they hadn’t mentioned the back pay or anything, my previous statements haven’t been changed yet just last months adding the extra payment, do they back date it from when the child disability claim was made do you know ? And does it take ages for back pay sorry for all the questions x

ScoobyBooby · 01/12/2024 20:12

Soon as your backpay is issued all your statements will change. How long that takes seems to vary. I only waited a few days after having the letters others have waited weeks! . It should be backdated to the date you applied for the child DLA x

Babymama244 · 01/12/2024 22:28

@ScoobyBooby thank you so much for explaining it to me, I’ll give them a message tomorrow on my journal see what they are saying thank you again xx
