Hey all, my little one was awarded DLA on the 7th of December. MRC and LRM which was backdated to the 31st of July. I updated my journal same day requesting disabled child element to be added and backdating was told they will investigate this. Heard nothing else so sent message in January to be told the same thing. I sent another message on 9th of February to be told its been sent to decision maker and as soon as they have an answer will update journal. Anyone else still waiting for element to be added as well as backdating???

Thanks for that. Well I phoned to get the form and I returned before the end date so hopefully i am doing well so far 🤭. Do I just wrote on my journal if all goes ok and my daughter gets awarded DLA?

SearchingForSolitude · 04/08/2025 20:23

You would need to report a change to report the DLA award and to report that you are a carer. Then comment on your journal to request they are backdated.

From my friends experience her transitional protection was eroded. She end up with a small back payment but not has much has it should be.

I had to complain to dwp because I was getting ignored by uc. Then 3 days later i had a reply and the same day it was decided it was to be backdated. Everyone is different though hopefully not long.

If the conversation was on your journal and you weren't made aware of the disabled child element I can't see why you wouldn't get it backdated x

Has anyone been refused having the carers element and disability element backdated? My child was awarded HRC /LRM on 07.10.2025 her award date was 12.08.2025 I told UC straight away and they added it to my October November payment (payment day from UC is the 1st) I thought it was backdated automatically

Hello

How long are people typically waiting for a decision for back pay request and getting the payment. My request went to the decision maker 4 weeks ago but haven't heard anything. Is this normal?

ScoobyBooby · 11/01/2026 10:47

I just got a yes decision after waiting 5 weeks for my daughter. I am still waiting a letter to confirm how much backpay I am getting for her x

Hi anyone know how long it’s taking to get child element backdated payment

Sim8 · 28/01/2026 18:42

Hi all i am currently doing a Mandatory Reconsideration because of issues with my daughter’s disabled child element.
I first reported in my journal that my daughter was awarded DLA in October 2025. I also asked UC to backpay the child element from when she was awarded DLA, which is April 2025.
On the 23rd of December my daughter was verfied.
31 December 2025, UC said the case worker was looking at it, but nothing happened. I kept checking, and last week in January 2026, I asked again why the backpayment was taking so long.
The next day, I received a letter in my journal saying I had an overpayment from 2024 to 2025. This made no sense because in 2024 my daughter wasn’t even on the claim and didn’t have DLA, so I couldn’t possibly have been overpaid for that period.
UC are now saying that adding my daughter’s disabled child element cancelled out transitional protection, and that the arrears I should get for her were used to offset the overpayment.
Basically, they are treating me as if I was overpaid in 2024, even though my daughter wasn’t on the claim then, and this is blocking the backpayment I am actually owed. I’ve raised a Mandatory Reconsideration to challenge this.
And even me calculating it properly, the disabled child element backpayment for my daughter from march 2025 to January 2026 is higher than the overpayment amount. That means something still doesn’t add up. So they are trying everything for people to not get backpayment
