Shiny new thread (saw your post Bikebug

Not been on for a while as we've been a house full of colds and having new heating installed (the warmth is bliss) so DS has been sleeping in with me again as he couldn't breathe
Progress has still been made though as I've only been bringing him in from about 11ish(because I'm lazy)and he's been waking coughing during the evening but managing to resettle himself quite a lot.

I really think we're getting there (though it maybe his age too )

How's everyone else doing?

Hello danceswithbaby... how old is your dd? I haven't followed this thread at all, so scuse me if it's down there somewhere.

I've just come back to mumsnet now I'm on maternity leave with my seven week old.

I'm a bit downhearted, as ds1 was a terrible sleeper, we did some NCSS stuff that helped a bit, but we were probably too lazy to really go for it.

With ds2 I thought I'd get him into good habits from birth to not end up with such a poor sleeper, but it hasn't worked out like that. He only stays asleep if he's on a person or has a boob in his mouth, and I fear that I've already taught him bad habits. I thought I'd have a quick glance at this thread as further down the line I'll no doubt be needing a NCSS support thread!

Anyway, well done with your dd. You must be delighted.

Hi Manoo! How nice to have someone to talk to! I really thought my last post was the bye-bye message, on what has been a truly great thread.

How old is your ds1? Is he still a poor sleeper? My dd is 15 months today. She's always been a terrible sleeper. She used to throw in the odd 5 hour strech when newborn and for the first two or three months, but nothing longer than 3 hours since June 2006, until fairly recently. 6.5 hours is unheard of! I'm expecting the usual 2-3hrs tonight though.

I know we're always told that we mustn't let them feed to sleep etc, but I've always done it. She didn't give me a choice really. Anyway, it's entirely natural. I'm certain my dd will sort herself out naturally, she's showing signs of it. I do think that NCSS has some good tips to encourage them in that direction.

Bloody tiring on the way though and I don't have another child to cope with!

Hello again... wanted to post yesterday but ds1 was being hectic! Ds1 is 4 in a few days time and is now a mostly excellent sleeper. He does wake once or twice some nights, but just asks for some water and goes straight back to sleep. Also is now happy to let my dh resettle him, which was previously unheard of. He does ask to come into our bed the odd night, but that doesn't worry me as it's only every now and then.

His sleep sorted itself out very very gradually, and I can't remember at which point it became acceptable, I think possibly at around 2.5 - 3yrs. So I do at least have hope that if ds2 really does turn into another rotten sleeper, at least I know it ends eventually!

When I'm getting into NCSS with ds2, I'll turn back to this thread for inspiration. Hope sleep gradually gets better and better with your dd. Well done for going the no cry route. She'll thank you for it!
