Shiny new thread (saw your post Bikebug

Not been on for a while as we've been a house full of colds and having new heating installed (the warmth is bliss) so DS has been sleeping in with me again as he couldn't breathe
Progress has still been made though as I've only been bringing him in from about 11ish(because I'm lazy)and he's been waking coughing during the evening but managing to resettle himself quite a lot.

I really think we're getting there (though it maybe his age too )

How's everyone else doing?

DS is napping for the 2nd time today in his cot!!

Still no sleeping through though- i've just emailed Mrs Pantley to ask what she advises when DS wants to play for an hour in the early hours.

Prays for reply!

moljam · 21/12/2006 13:55

dg,2 naps in cot!!!!!
you should get reply from mrs pantley, ive got one before.helpful and made me feel less alone!
i spoke too soon about ds feeling better, hes on major cling again.his sisters playing with him so i can rest my arms for a minute!

DetentionGrrrl · 22/12/2006 04:08

4am

And i can't go back to bed when he has a morning nap, because i have to go to the doctors later.

Fingers crossed for a sleep this afternoon ladies.

danceswithbaby · 22/12/2006 14:46

Poor you DG. Sounds like your lo hasn't quite got day and night sorted out yet.

I however (fingers tightly crossed), have some positive news for once!

Yesterday when I put dd down in bed for her afternoon nap, she slept right through her normal 30min wake up!! Then carried on sleeping for 1hr 20mins with no intervention. Again, when I put her to bed at 7.30 she didn't wake up as usual after 30 mins but went right through until 10pm. She then only woke up a further 3 times until 6.30 when we got up.

Four wakings doesn't sound great, but for a child who wakes normally 10 times a night it is brilliant! Also, she's only ever not woken up 30 minutes into a sleep about 3 times since she was born and NEVER on the same day.

I'm sure she'll revert to normal today, she's 20mins into a nap now, so we'll see. But even if she does, it was a very nice xmas prezzie! Thank you Santa .

moljam · 22/12/2006 16:31

wow dwb!great results!i think on this thread we all understand just 4 wakings is great!someone else might think '4 wakings!'.santa heard your wish!

DetentionGrrrl · 22/12/2006 19:44

I am awaiting this evenings awakening with some trepidation.

DS was so exhausted he was falling asleep in my lap at 5.30pm, so put him to bed without book or bath earlier than usual.

Pleasant nights sleep wishes to you all!

danceswithbaby · 23/12/2006 10:52

Back to normal last night . I stopped counting after the 7th waking. It's SO frustrating!! I've been trying to work out what I did differently throughout the day and bedtime routine, to the day before. The only thing I can spot is that she had her tea half an hour later because I was stuck in Tesco (Aaargh!!).

Oh well, back to the drawing board...

How was your night DG? Was there more playing in the early hours?

Sleepy Christmas greetings to everyone .

DetentionGrrrl · 23/12/2006 16:15

He slept for 3 1/2 hours from when put down, then woke about 4 times maybe. There was much playing!!!!!!!!!!

Going out tonight- yay! Have a new frock and all sorts Hope he sleeps bit better tonight.

On the plus side, he had a big lunch time nap in his cot.

DetentionGrrrl · 24/12/2006 05:21

Last night DS went to bed around 6pm before i went out. He woke when i was out for a feed, then around 11.30pm when he took about 1oz from me (should have tried shushing perhaps?)

Anyway- after that he slept until 5am. Small victories and all that. Chuffed as.

Crosses fingers that Santa heard my plea for sleep

imdreamingofawhiteKITTYmas · 24/12/2006 06:56

DG - that sounds v promising I'm sure it is little victories with ncss

DWB - looks like you are going in the right direction as well

moljam - hope your LO is better soon the cold really does through them off their sleep

DG - my DD2 is nearly 11 months she's a big happy girl with a non stop appetite, to make matters worse DD1 is a great sleeper true what you say you never get two the same.

Well we are averaging 4 awakenings a night (has gone from 2 ) I am planning to stop BFing in about another month as well, I feel a year is enough is some ways I have been pregnant of BFing for over 3 years now. I will be sad to stop but at the same time relieved it's the right thing for us (mush keep telling myself that).

The plan is next month move DD2 into her own room and stop the night time BFs. Thing is she settles for DP with just a cuddle but with me she insists on the boob so DP will take the first few night shifts. No CC more ncss/baby whisperer in that she won't be left to cry it out I'll probably be camped on the bedroom floor for a while.

Well Merry Christmas to you all, lets hope Santa brings us all some much needed sleep, this time next year we will laugh at all of this I'm sure. xxx

moljam · 24/12/2006 10:43

we only woke twice between 7 pm and 6 am!!!!!!!yay!i did feed him back to sleep but hes just getting over his poorliness!he just had nap which was only 5 minutes but he has trouble napping when his brother and sister are home.
merry christmas/seasons greetings to all!

chIRIStmasfairybigpants · 26/12/2006 09:39

Merry Christmas everyone hope you all had some sleep. Sorry I've not been around to give more support but it's been pretty hectic for one reasonor another with bad colds & D&V bugs everywhere.

Looks like there's definate progress for everyone which is fantastic - Mrs Pantly would be proud of us

NCSS has definately worked for us. DS is now officially sleeping 7.30 - 7 and resettles himself if he wakes about 80% of the timen (fingers crossed it stays that way) so don't give up!!

big hugs to you all and thanks for all your support to me on the thread xx

An excellent couple of days! Napping every afternoon for an hour in his COT!

Also, last 2 nights he's slept for a period of 5 hours before waking up. I have this feeling that he's really going to sleep through at some point.

danceswithbaby · 26/12/2006 16:42

Great news DG!. I'm really glad it's still working for you Iris, you must be feeling so much better.

Xmas eve night was completely awful here. DD was up pretty much all night, so I've no idea how Santa managed to sneak in. Sly old thing. He left me a cold, so I must have been a very bad person this year. Anyway dd finially got to sleep about 4am but I had horrid nightmares until 6.30. Don't know what that was all about.

Xmas night was better (thank you Medised). DD has 3 teeth coming through and is rubbing at her face all the time. After an hour of trying to relax her we resorted to the Medised which knocked her out for a good four hours.

Lord only knows what tonight will bring, none of the teeth have cut through yet and she could be starting my cold.

Routine and naps once again being out of the window, it looks as though following NCSS will be my new years resolution. Saves me thinking of anything else.

I hope you all had a great christmas, enough sleep and at least one of you managed to sit down and watch 'Giselle' uninterrupted (or whatever it was that you really wanted to see). Unlikely for the next few years I know!

Difers · 26/12/2006 19:10

Hello Girls,

Remember me?? I see you have a new thread. V. Good indeed. Good to hear all yor endevours.

It's been a few months since I posted. I've moved to v.rural and isolated wales, where I was brought up, from London - the prevailing attitude to childcare can only be described as relaxed. Breastfeed to sleep - it's only natural! Sleep problems -HV suggested....Wait until you settled in!!!No rush to change things quickly up here.

Anyway DS is now 11 months and wakes once or twice or three times in the night BUT recently he has started to fuss and throw himself around instead of breastfeeding to sleep and now sometimes just fusses to sleep - not CRY but fuss. Last night in the middle of the night he went back to sleep on his own. Hurrah slow progress but happy progress.

DetentionGrrrl · 27/12/2006 12:56

It's lovely to hear we're seeing some progress, however small.

DS slept for 6 hrs last night before waking!!!!!!!!

moljam · 27/12/2006 13:48

iris and dg,sounds great!!!send sleepy vibes this way.dwb, were doing the stick to ncss as newyear resolution too!i could kick myself for getting too relaxed about it,but when theyre poorly what are you supposed to do!?did i do right by quitting and doing what i felt right for ds?
hope you all had fab xmas.ds1 ended up in a and e after trying to roller skate downstairs at 9.30am xmas morning.he bounced all the way down on back and ended up in shock.but amazingly was fine, not a scratch!and ds2 was grumpy all day which is odd as hes usually very chilled.apart from that everything was perfect!

moljam · 27/12/2006 13:49

last night ds slept 8pm -3am no problem but refused to sleep after that.7 hours is great but i dont function at 3am.

moljam · 29/12/2006 13:15

ok,its getting worse and worse!!!!im going to try ds back in travel cot tonight incase its me waking him again, hes started to drink 2-3 8oz bottles in the night.im feeding him because hes obviously hungry not like before when he used it to comfort but.....what to do!

DetentionGrrrl · 30/12/2006 04:53

oh Moljam! (Growth spurt?)

Last few days have been a set back here- brothers are staying, and baby is in travel cot in our room. Not as comfy and house is noisier, so to be expected. They go home tonight though.

Despite the change in routine, DS is expecting less milk at night and can be shushed back to sleep without picking him up 40% of the time. Much, much better than it was...says the woman up at 4am with a babbling baby on her lap.

moljam · 31/12/2006 15:43

dg,hope your lo gets back to 'normal' soon!could be growth spurt with tom i suppose!tomorrow night were getting back on track with ncss, wish us luck!!!
happy new year to everyone!

DetentionGrrrl · 03/01/2007 16:11

Terrible few days- DS is teething, has another cold and his nappy rash is so bad it bled

He is still napping in the day in his cot though, and wanting less and less milk at night. Trying to stay postitive.

I had a response from Mrs Pantley, but it was very disappointing. It was an automated email, which didn't answer my question. It just said to read her book again cover to cover, went on about her bloody Coleton, then informed to to look out for The No Cry Potty Training book she'll be bringing out soon. I'm insulted to say the least. How rude!

danceswithbaby · 04/01/2007 10:04

I'm with you on the terrible few days DG. It seems to be one thing after another. Another cold for dd, one of her top teeth finally came through but she has hard lumps all along her bottom gums. Her teething causes her to bite me, then I get angry, she gets totally hysterical when I don't let her suckle... it's just a nightmare. She seems to need milk more than ever when she's sick/teething. At least the biting only tends to last for a day. Whereas most babies I know tend to get pathetic and cuddly when sick, mine only has two modes of operation. Stop and Go. The only difference is that she gets bad tempered and grumpy.

Yesterday I came down with a fever myself. I ache all over and can't stop shivering. So obviously things can only get worse. DH, bless him, left me in bed for a couple of hours this morning and is currently pushing DD along the river for her morning nap. Hopefully they'll be gone an hour or so, give the paracetamol time to kick in.

I totally agree with you about Pantley's response DG. It's completely unhelpful and actually quite rude. I expected better.

danceswithbaby · 04/01/2007 13:13

Forgot to say Happy New Year everyone!

Bikebug, I meant to tell you, I got so fed up over christmas with dd chomping on paper and cardboard and ignoring her food, that I gave her a sheet of edible wafer paper made into cardboard with some water .

She ate the lot in about 30 seconds flat. And still ignored her food.

I'm thinking of going into business making edible paper and card, out of good food, for babies.............

BikeBug · 04/01/2007 13:30

Hello again all, just logged on for the first time in weeks and came back to see how everyone is doing. DWB, I love your edible paper company, DS will be placing his order...
We've had a bit of a change, after a bloody awful christmas period when DS had two colds and teething, and had to be in his travel cot at the in-laws and at my parents house, and regressed right back to waking every hour and a half. I bought a duvet for him two days ago. I know you're not supposed to use them before your baby is one, but he's 10 months and huge and active, and it's a summer weight (4.5 tog). And the last two nights he's woken just once before midnight and once after midnight. Can it really be that he was cold? His room is nippy, and he gets in a real knot with his growbags and gets cross, but can it be that simple? Or is he being kind? I'm back at work now , and it is going to kill me if he goes back to waking every couple of hours. Best of all, DH is doing nightshift while I get back into the swing of things. He is finding it sooo hard! I feel he is going to appreciate me so much more knowing what I've been doing all these months
