I'm back!! Let's start it off again, been a rough year, redundancy/job searching and broken ankle!! But back fighting fit, running and swimming and so can't wait for March next year, anyone care to join in xx ⛷⛷⛷⛷

I've had a look at the five day forecast and there's a fair bit of snow predicted. Just hoping for some sun too in between the snow showers!

Elocutioner · 09/02/2018 12:55

We've even got the same room as last year and it's great being able to visualise exactly what we need. I've even packed bath bubbles 😁

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/02/2018 13:20

We went to the same chalet for the same week with the same friends for several years when the kids were smaller.

The familiarity was great for them - they really looked forward to it and knowing what to expect with bedrooms, ski school etc made it so much more relaxing for us all.

We've never had a bad experience with ESF but really rate BASS too.

Elocutioner · 09/02/2018 13:28

Yes that first day where you wandering around not sure where the ski school meets... glad not to have that.

ESF were hopeless last year and much as I remember them being when I learned an embarrassingly long time ago. They just took no care over the individual kids at all - the just shoved them all round and round the practice piste whether they were smiling, crying or snotty. DD just cried and cried and then they had her sitting out on her own getting freezing cold and not learning to ski at all. Bless she was only four and just found it all overwhelming.

In the end I took her out and taught her myself and she loved it - linked turns and snowplough by the end of the week.

It feels like a long wait for us. We skied last season at Christmas and then have 2 late trips this year. Bad planning. Now lots of people are going at half term I'm getting pangs.

Skiing is the one time I quite like to return to a resort. We've had 2 or 3 times in a resort before moving on.

Elocutioner · 13/02/2018 16:41

The snow in the three valleys is amazing at the moment - the best I've seen in 30 years I'd say.

First tracks through deep powder yesterday morning - most unusual for half term week!

kpandthesunshineband2 · 15/02/2018 13:12

How busy is it this week? Is it main half term ? Our half term is next week & looking at very last minute booking.

Elocutioner · 15/02/2018 14:04

It's busy but not too hectic. Next week will also be busy.

Raining today - it's pretty wet and grim!

dameofdilemma · 15/02/2018 15:22

Every time I go skiing and the weather is rubbish I start to doubt why we go. We were so lucky last year but this year we've had two sunny days and the rest has been pretty terrible. Now I feel like we're just filling time till it's time to leave on Sunday.

Still at least that's filling time with playing in the snow, swimming, more playing. And dd still has her lessons and loves them. And dp can ski in any weather, unlike me. So it's just me being the wet blanket.

Am trying not to think just how much per day the two good days skiing has cost!

FitBitFanClub · 15/02/2018 21:54

We're in the 3 valleys st the moment. Today was just horrid -rain, and even the most stoic of the group nearly bailed and came in.
Tues/weds were fab and tomorrow (Friday) looks to be good though. Queues are really Okthough - have skiied Feb half term for many years and have never seen it as reasonable as this week.

Elocutioner · 16/02/2018 08:29

FitBit I hear you! I came in yesterday and put everything in the tumble dryer. Had to buy new gloves as they were sodden. Miserable!

It would ease up every now and then and I'd venture up another chair - only for it to start pouring halfway up and I'd think what on earth am I doing?!?

Today the most extreme skier in the family is 5 year old DD who has gone racing off to her lesson. The rest of us are watching the olympics in the chalet Grin

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 16/02/2018 09:00

Rain? RAIN?! In my mind that's just important Shock

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 16/02/2018 09:00

Impossiblecan't type due to distress

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 16/02/2018 09:00

^^ see !

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/02/2018 09:04

Rain on a skiing holiday is miserable. It looks like it's been pretty widespread this week though Sad

I've convinced myself that we won't be going again this year now - until yesterday there was a nagging doubt but a look at flights yesterday confirmed what I think I knew all along.

Hope this weeks' half termers have a great last day and those off next week have safe journeys.

Keep us posted!

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 16/02/2018 14:41

I'm in Switzerland and it's raining here. Got soaked yesterday and clothes hanging all over the chalet. Gave up at lunchtime both days. Thankfully the first 4 days were great.

Elocutioner · 16/02/2018 16:00

The weather has cheered up a lot today. Still fairly warm and the snow in the village is melting at a pace. However there's such a good base on the mountain that conditions are still very good (if a bit heavy)

CaurnieBred · 15/03/2018 15:14

So excited. I got a new job so just booked for DH and I to go skiing to Corvara by ourselves whilst DD is away with the school. Cannot wait!

trixymalixy · 16/03/2018 20:49

We’re heading back home from a week in les Deux Alpes tomorrow. Monday and Thursday were absolutely miserable with rain and wind and we were all soaked and gave up at lunchtime. We had two reasonable days although visibility wasn’t great. Thankfully we also had two bluebird days otherwise the holiday would have been a bit of a bust.

Today, our last day, was glorious. Was outskied by my 8 year old DD and 11year old DS down the super diable black run 😳

citykat · 17/03/2018 09:46

Anyone driven down and been stopped or seen evidence of the environmental sticker vignette thingy? Apparently the motorway round Grenoble is in a zone and could be closed to cars without a sticker? I have only just found out and now worrying if it will arrive in time as leaving in less than a week. Can you get one in person somewhere?

CaurnieBred · 19/03/2018 21:45

@citykat this thread on Snowheads might help

citykat · 20/03/2018 09:04

Thanks Caurnie that does help as confirms not needed for route I am taking. One less bit of stuff to fret overSmileback to obsessively checking the weather.

bluetongue · 28/04/2018 03:08

Anyone booked for 2019 yet? I have and I’m already excited Grin

I’m going to France for two weeks, first week catered ski in, ski out in Mottaret ( just above Meribel) and second week is my ‘budget’ week staying in a self catered apartment in Briançon to ski Serre Chevalier.

massistar · 30/04/2018 16:17

We've just booked for NY 2018 to Les Arcs. Never been there before but our little group of 27 is very excited already!

bluetongue · 01/05/2018 13:29

I love Les Arcs massistar Smile That was my other option before I chose Serre Chevalier.
