Oh can I join the new thread. I was briefly on the last one. We had our first family ski holiday in VT at Easter and it was glorious (if a bit slushy by the end of the day). DS now is ski mad and dead keen for this season but DH says we can't afford it. I've been looking at Eastern Europe rather than the Alps. Anyone any experience? Looks like it might be a long slog to the lifts and big queues. I'm lazy a huge fan of ski in ski out hotels. Be grateful for any advice

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 01/11/2017 13:25

Flipping heck, 7 years.

My friend was also advised against a full repair and she does seem to be doing ok (back skiing). Stay positive and enjoy the sun for now.

PestoSwimissimos · 01/11/2017 13:40

Well I fully intend to be back on skis eventually, like your friend. It’s just that I don’t feel up to it the way my knees are right now. Hopefully though, by leaving it a year or so, they will have recovered sufficiently for me to resume skiing, albeit probably braced-up to the nines - haha Grin

massistar · 01/11/2017 15:47

No experience of Eastern Europe myself Gingercat but we had friends who went to Bansko last year and enjoyed. They'd never been spoiled by the Alps though!

I've found Italy and Austria to be cheaper than France.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 01/11/2017 15:53

I put the Top 10 Cheapest resorts in a post. Don't be put off by the fact Finland is included. I've been and I can confirm it was less than half the cost of France!

Skilover · 02/11/2017 11:24

I'm late joining in but would like to say hi! I missed out on a lot of skiing last year as I was poorly so I'm reading all ski articles with interest now to try and remember how much I love it. Hopefully my first sneaky trip at the beginning of December will remind me!
We are also going Easter time with the kids and will have everything crossed that there will still be snow. Grin

PestoSwimissimos · 02/11/2017 11:50

Welcome Skilover, lucky you having 2 trips to look forward to Smile

Where are you going?

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 02/11/2017 14:58

Nice skilover we love a double down Grin

PestoSwimissimos · 02/11/2017 15:39

Cunty I think you should make more of an effort & go for the triple. A quick pre-season bash in December Grin

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 02/11/2017 21:29

I tried for the triple, but my 'D'H told me it was excessive. I know, I know, I should LTB... but he sometimes carries my skis Grin

PestoSwimissimos · 03/11/2017 08:28

Grin Grin Grin

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 03/11/2017 22:54

We used to go thrice

Thanks for the kind words about less deux alpes in April. I shall just have to get up early and be all skied out before it turns to huge heaps of watery heavy thigh killing slush.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 04/11/2017 07:48

Up on the glacier it'll be good snow all day. I have fond memories of nearly braining myself on the T-bars up there. Ah yes, pre-children, pre-helmet Shock

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 04/11/2017 10:14

Thanks Smile

If anyone has any recommendations I will be all ears Grin

PestoSwimissimos · 04/11/2017 10:30

They do absolutely fab food in the restaurant at the foot of the T-bars. There was duck!!! We had the best burgers ever, cooked to order. Being France they ask how you want them done Shock ie rare, medium or well done. Amazing Grin

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 04/11/2017 11:01

Funnily enough 'duck' was what my friend shouted at me

PestoSwimissimos · 04/11/2017 11:17

PMSL 😆

kittykarate · 04/11/2017 13:12

I'm booked for Levi in March. I should be all happy.. But I strained my knee (MCL) a month ago at chill factore when my ski popped off and I'm feeling all down about it.

PestoSwimissimos · 04/11/2017 14:50

Wear a knee brace Kitty & test it out at home before you go

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 04/11/2017 23:48

I might be going for a longish weekend with friends too. Very excited. Looking for a sort of spa/ski thing because we have a non-skier...

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 04/11/2017 23:48

And I am definitely having one of those burgers. Grin

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 05/11/2017 12:52

Certain Courmayeur is good for spas and skiing.

PestoSwimissimos · 05/11/2017 12:59

Courmayeur’s where I partially tore my right ACL 25 years ago!!

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 05/11/2017 16:01

I will never mention the place again. Sorry Blush Grin

PestoSwimissimos · 05/11/2017 17:13

It was the first run down, ski binding had been set too high....

S’ok I still had a nice holiday though. The second week we were in Verbier & by 1/2 way through I was back on my skis, albeit tentatively Grin
