Off to Val d'isere on the train on Friday night and cannot wait! So much snow at the moment.
Getting surefoot custom fitted boots done in resort, my Christmas gift from DH.
Has anyone got any experience of Surefoot?

The road between Les Menuire and Val Thorens is closed.

I have custom fitted boots but not sure what make, could be Head. The best thing I ever got was my Bolle helmet with the attached visor. I can wear my glasses. Worth every penny.

That sounds like a game changer for glasses wearers.

Road from Bourg to VDI is also closed. 2nd day of mountain being closed today. 218cm due over next 7 days, think I better take a book or three.

Feeling a tiny bit better today (probably because I wasn't running around after the DCs all day yesterday) but still coughing.
Happily we have almost all we need for skiing - DH has been dispatched to buy more base layers for almost-potty-trained-honest DD and I'm getting an earflap hat for DS at some stage.

Oh and don't tell anyone but school approved DS absence for our holiday.
(My work is at a peak time around Feb half term so I can't take that week. My boss was very kind actually and said that it could be approved once, or they could make it a blanket ban and tell school they never approve it - I decided on the latter as then we might get to do it again - if they approved it once school would want to know why they don't approve it again).

Oh and me again. Thinking ahead to next year! Anyone been to Seefeld with children?

We had a great week in Tignes last week. Missed our flight home due to atrocious road conditions (weather and volume of traffic).

Very glad that we're not out there this week though, there is such as thing as too much snow! Hope any of you out there this week are staying safe.

We're off to Les Coches in a couple of weeks (school have authorised) and have high hopes for some great conditions.

Off to Reberty at the end of March, can't wait. DD will be 3.3, could we get her on a pair of skis? Grin

We were up at the Nevis range today. The snow conditions were lovely, shame we spent most of it queuing Hmm At least we were not one of the poor sods stuck on the quad chair for two hours! They'd started rescuing people from it which looked terrifying!!

We're here, the DCs are running riot and refusing to sleep, and I'm still coughing loads. But there's masses of snow and a mainly sunny week predicted!

Deste- interesting to hear your view on the Bolle Helmet as DS wears glasses and struggled a bit last year (until he borrowed my Bolle goggles which were fine)

Can I join? Have booked a week in les arcs (vallandry) in Feb half term, we have 6 year old twins who haven’t skied before, have booked them in ski school and will be going to our local indoor ski slope for a couple of tasters before we go. DH and I used to ski every year until the kids came along, and we’re going with another family who have a skiing 5 yo.

Where’s best to buy ski gear for the DC? Have borrowed some for DD from a friend but need for DS. Managed to get some sallapettes from eBay for £10. And might need to buy some for myself as I can’t quite squeeze into my preDC clothes...

I'm off to Peisey vallandry in Feb half term too!
Decathlon's good for kids stuff as their trousers have an adjustable leg length and prices are pretty good. If you use Facebook try your local selling pages too.

Had a fabulous week in Italy over new year. Soooo much snow!! It snowed until lunchtime on ny day so we had the slopes full of powder (ideal for us snowboarders) and practically to ourselves that day!

Countdown to Tignes in Feb now!!

I'm off to Avoriaz over half-term. I managed two holidays last year but can't afford it this year, can barely afford the one trip. Taking my 9 year old. This is my first time to Avoriaz and I'm quite enjoying the current, new place every trip, attitude I have. I know that in the end, Val Thorens is my true love!!.

@drspouse can recommend the evening ski show if you are feeling up to it.

We think we'll have a rest after my four (count them) runs today! Just having a sit down with a coffee while DH does some stuff at his pace then a gentle run back to the chalet.
I was really struggling and out of breath (quite scary) on one run but just had a couple more that were really more my speed and feel better now. But I'm so unfit/not well.
Anyway I've found two not too long cross country runs for later in the week, and we'll try a bit more downhill tomorrow.
It snowed last night so it's very nice except quite a bit is shut due to high winds so some bits are v churned up.
Now all I need to know is the Austrian equivalent to tartiflette and I'll be a happy woman.

Happy Skiing thread Part 3!!!

Hope everyone in the alps now is OK - Zermatt is cut off atm and an avalanche has hit apartments in Sestriere but no one hurt. Scary conditions - a British man is missing.
