I wondered if we might talk about ditching AIBU, please

seems as though several people are thinking the same...AIBU is such a carbuncle, really.

it was funny at first but now it's just dragging us down imho

I wondered what the official thought was on this?

Thanks.

so seems like its going to be staying then!

shesdrivingmecrazy · 14/04/2010 15:46

IWAGITM is priceless!

MerlinsBeard · 14/04/2010 15:46

I hated it in the first place and it has been hidden since day 1!

It shows a very Jeremy Kyle side to MN

MrsMargate · 14/04/2010 15:46

I hid AIBU a while ago - a good move for me.

Why not try hiding it for a week to see if it makes a difference?

MerlinsBeard · 14/04/2010 15:48

like how i can hide the lot in one click though.

There are many a few topics i would like to see die a firey death tbh.

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 15:48

i hide about 50 topics

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/04/2010 15:48

Can I just disagree with one thing you said in your OP Fliight? It was never funny, not even at first. I always thought it was a Bad Thing.

I think I am going to take the advice here and hide it. The only reason I haven't so far is because, as others have said, you get so much traffic through it, I am afraid of missing a vast tract of the MN experience. But maybe that would be a good thing?

Greensleeves · 14/04/2010 15:49

I dn't understand how people can hide topics

I would feel like I was missing something

I prefer to have them visible but bluster and carp about the things I don't like

NomDePlume · 14/04/2010 15:50

For God's sake, if we are culling topics then surely BABY NAMES has to go ? I mean really ?

"What do you [people I have never met and am never likely to met] think about this name I might choose for my unborn child?"

Ermmmm, dull - yes. Repetetive - often. Offensive - sometimes.

Obviously these topics were ring fenced so that they could be 'hidden' (which is what I do, along with the other ones I don't like or use).

On the whole though, I agree with the don't like it - hide it sentiment.

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 15:50

oh no hide away
tis the road to serenity
i hit hide if there are too many ** in the title
or swearing( incase of kids)
or tedious sex

am about to hide behvioru adn dev as tbh kids too old

Nettiespagetti · 14/04/2010 15:50

I like AIBU,
and sometimes actually ask myself this question,
sometimes the answer is no,
sometimes yes,
but most of the time the people at mumsnet will give me the answer,
that is a sure bet!!

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 15:50

babynames is for wankers and illiterates i agree

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 15:50

ok lets look at todays aibu
do ANY of them really have any doubt if they are bu?

MerlinsBeard · 14/04/2010 15:51

Its not the MN that we are used to DG so you aren't missing anything!!
(Yes that ild chestnut)

ANd if there is a good one then someone always starts a thread about a thread about it

teh booze one yesterday for eg

she was CONVINCED she wasnt being unresonable and only was pleased wehn people agreed with her.

NomDePlume · 14/04/2010 15:51

I hide most of them

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/04/2010 15:51

Oh Greeny, I know what you mean, but honestly, I just don't want to even look at some of the thread titles - all that ante natal stuff for starters. I have found that once you hide a topic, you completely forget it every existed which is fine for an ante natal group or a minority sport like camping, but maybe not so easy to do with AIBU.

MerlinsBeard · 14/04/2010 15:52

lol, like me Mrs Shu! I probably have more hidden than i show

Polgara2 · 14/04/2010 15:57

God you have made me realise I am cluttering up my screen with topics I have no desire to ever hear about - am off to find hide thank you.

I probably won't hide AIBU tbh because it can be so entertaining to read but do agree it can get way too venomous at times.

MrsMargate · 14/04/2010 15:57

I've never started an AIBU type thread because I'm not up myself that I need confirmation of my hoity toit.

Sort of agrressive question to begin with isn't it? Am I being unreasonable, well, am i AM I??????

I say let's retitle it 'Hmmm, what do you think of this, all opinions welcome, dearies'

lol at 'minority sport like camping'

Threelittleducks · 14/04/2010 15:59

Ha ha ha, didn't realise how porno that sounded. IWAGITM!! (whiplash sound).

If that comes into being, may I please host it? Hee hee

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 15:59

what about renaming it

" all opinions welcome"
so you have to put
" am i a twat - all opinions welcome" as your title
