I wondered if we might talk about ditching AIBU, please

seems as though several people are thinking the same...AIBU is such a carbuncle, really.

it was funny at first but now it's just dragging us down imho

I wondered what the official thought was on this?

Thanks.

In other words, it's an opportunity to reduce your workload, if you pull it

BTW, I was not talking about anyone who has contributed to this thread

FFS Jamie.

I like AIBU. It keeps all the red-eyed furious types in one area so I know where they are and can avoid, unless I fancy poking them with a big stick.
Which sometimes I do.

I am one of the red eyed furious types that comes to vent to avoid murdering my children!!

posieparker · 15/04/2010 17:35

I am amazed to see other AIBU regulars on this thread asking for it to be removed.

tethersend · 15/04/2010 17:36

AIBU to set fire to cardigans?

pagwatch · 15/04/2010 17:39

my son had a party recently and in the morning we found two abandoned sleeping bags and four abandoned black cardigans.
a) what is that all about?
b) do you want them tether for your fire starting?

tethersend · 15/04/2010 17:56

a) Don't ask.
b) Yes please.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 15/04/2010 17:57

Oh, I'm an AIBU user. But I have a bad case of cognitive dissonance.

Fliight · 16/04/2010 14:35

Harping on I know, but did anyone see the row on Chat yesterday (something regarding job centres)

I'd just like to point that out in big red letters to the people who said AIBU keeps it in one place. It patently, patently doesn;t.

therefore it is I'd suggest rather redundant.

I believe it only serves to ENCOURAGE dissonance and attacks

not to protect the remaining topics from them.

Justine are you taking notes?

I agree, all it's done is to make some people feel as if it's required that you have to be awful if posting in AIBU. It absolutely doesn't stop the fights elsewhere.

Mind you, I've posted 2 AIBU threads ever and been treated fine both times. So there is an element of poster responsibility.

But generally I agree, redundant, encourages dissonance.

ThisIsSpatchcocked · 16/04/2010 14:48

So, why dont we have the AIBU AND say, a venting topic..then people who know they are BU can vent, but people understand it is a vent, iykwim? and less fights?

Fliight · 16/04/2010 14:52

I don't think that would help though...it's assimilated itself into the public consciousness, now, and will be hard to moderate to that effect. It has to go I think, if HQ will concur, but I think they have other concerns so fair dos.

i don't think we need a venting topic.

people have said on tjhis thread that they use AIBU because it basically gives them carte blanche to vent their spleens. which it doesn't! it tells posters to be awware that people may disagree with them, which is fair enough. it doesn't say that it's ok to just be nasty because you "can".

if people want to vent then there is nothing stopping them posting in chat saying "argh, i had a terrible day, i need to vent"

there is NO need to take it out on other people at all. and sadly, some people seem to think that that's exactly what the AIBU topic is for. which it isn't and never was intended to be

ilovepiccolina · 16/04/2010 19:32

I loved the idea of AIBU when it first appeared - it seemed Awfully British to worry about whether you were being unreasonable, perhaps hurting someone's feelings, instead of Am I Right To Judge This Person or something.

So I prefer to keep it. Let's just all make an effort to be polite! Personally, I find it very hard to be horrible to someone, even (especially!) a complete stranger, in total anonymity, across the ether. I worry that they will be even more horrible back, and I couldn't bear that.
