What SINGLE thing would make Mumsnet better for you?

Thread rules:

  1. please be respectful to mnhq, this is not a bitch fest about MN
  1. only one THING per poster (or, if you must, you can have more than one but they must be on separate posts).

My thread. My rules. No arguments.

Right, I will start:

I do wish people would spend more time reading than posting. So often you have a thread (quite often an AIBU) where someone says "I haven't read the thread but YABU" or more often lately the highly unnecessary YABVVVVVVVVU when the thread has moved on hugely since the op, the arguments have all been had, everyone has bitched and moaned, made up, had a cup of tea, done a bit of ironing. If there is a slightly sparky looking OP and hundreds of posts on a thread, why not take that as a clue that the thread may well have moved on, questions asked and answers given, and read before you post?

Oh yes, BOF - one of my many problems is an inability to hold a thought. And therefore to remember a grudge. That's a good plan.

I agree with highlighting posts by the OP, and having OP as well as most recent poster listed when looking in 'Active'.

Disagree with ability to edit posts invisibly, but don't mind a red box for AIBU posters to add 'yes, I was' at the end of the OP.

Namechanging should be kept intact for posting embarrassing things.

Would you like to borrow my spreadsheet BoF? I could put it up as a Google document and we could add notes beside names such as 'moans about SIL a lot' or 'eats far too many QFs and is terrible when ill'.

I have said it before, and will say it again. I need a mumsnet app for the iphone.

  1. I want a bat sign in the air when there are interesting threads happening
  1. If there has to be AIBU, it should be limited to about 5 threads per active converation board and after that AIBU should self destruct for the day
  1. There should only be about 10 topics not 999 of them
coldtits · 19/03/2010 19:31

IPHONE VERSION !!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for shouting but it would make it so much easier to MN more!

Clarissimo · 19/03/2010 19:54

I think the minute an OP using AIBU tells anyone daring to say YABU that it is their thread / get angry with them / express annoyance for opinions a ray shoudl appear from the PC and blast them into a million tiny particles whcih can then be reconstituted in the form of cake (well its all hydrocarbon based isn;t it?) for Riven

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/03/2010 19:59

Absolutely Slubber. I have never started a thread in AIBU, mainly because I am perfectly capable of knowing whether I am being U or not, and secondly, because even if I am being U, I really don't want the abuse that goes with it.

So I stay clear of AIBU and then get some over-excited AIBU-user shouting YABU! at me when I have specifically not asked their opinion.

Anyway, some great suggestions here. I know we aren't allowed 2 or more things, but I would love to be able to edit posts (but it should then be clear you have changed your post otherwise people would try to change inflammatory posts and cause more arguments).

Also I like the idea of being able to reply to specific posts and maybe have a side conversation in one thread without hijacking the main conversation.

And the ability to hide some posters would be pleasant too - although could make some threads hard to understand.

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/03/2010 20:00

I'd like it if we could restrict the

a little because I find it a bit grooooo.

Having said that, I am ever so pleased to see you DG, I keep thinking that you have left.

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/03/2010 20:03

Lol at me having left. I am here every day Bibbity. I often see your name and want to post just because you have, but I don't want to appear stalkerish.
