What SINGLE thing would make Mumsnet better for you?

Thread rules:

  1. please be respectful to mnhq, this is not a bitch fest about MN
  1. only one THING per poster (or, if you must, you can have more than one but they must be on separate posts).

My thread. My rules. No arguments.

Right, I will start:

I do wish people would spend more time reading than posting. So often you have a thread (quite often an AIBU) where someone says "I haven't read the thread but YABU" or more often lately the highly unnecessary YABVVVVVVVVU when the thread has moved on hugely since the op, the arguments have all been had, everyone has bitched and moaned, made up, had a cup of tea, done a bit of ironing. If there is a slightly sparky looking OP and hundreds of posts on a thread, why not take that as a clue that the thread may well have moved on, questions asked and answers given, and read before you post?

Must get a thesaurus to have better access to similies that don't contain the Letter That Must Not Be Pushed (LTMNBP)

potplant · 19/03/2010 17:08

I'd like it to boot me off if I've been on for more than 20 minutes between the hours of 9 and 4.00pm. Tis very distracting when I have work to do.

Lymond · 19/03/2010 17:08

MmeLindt - I was the someone who suggested that (unless multiple people have...) seems an obvious solution to coping with just how long some threads get these days.

potplant · 19/03/2010 17:08

Would also like editing own posts and quoting another one properly.

nickelbabe · 19/03/2010 17:09

can i do some seconding now that i've read it?

second (or third) the editing function.
you don't usually see spelling errors till you've posted, then you have a long row of people going "sorry, meant that not thst

and hiding threads by a tick list.

and spell check (but you wouldn't need that if you had an edit)

potplant · 19/03/2010 17:10

I like the idea of highlighting follow ups from the OP, I haven't seen that anywhere else.

GypsyMoth · 19/03/2010 17:11

How about locking threads....... So many old ones get ressurected and it might mean less get deleted

lostinwales · 19/03/2010 17:11

Can I fourth hiding threads by a tick list. (Just to show I am paying attention, not just perving pictures of Keanu)

nickelbabe · 19/03/2010 17:11

and what potplant said (because i missed it out and would have been able to add it and also quote what she said if the two were available)

you can do it on the allotment site this thread as an example

the edit is in the third post down. and there's a quote halfway down the second page.

catinthehat2 · 19/03/2010 17:17

Cat/dog/hamster topics instead of "pets". Horse ladies and chicken ladies have theirs. Why not the rest of us?

Justine seems to think it is a slippery slope to stick insect/ bower bird/ Galapagos giant tortoise/ domesticated shark special interest groups.

GypsyMoth · 19/03/2010 17:20

I know it's been done, done , done...... But....... An iPhone app would be great!

Slubberdegullion · 19/03/2010 18:02

YES to free gifts.

Like a reward points system, or green stamps.

I could save up for some nice cut glass tumblers like my mother got with her stamps from Esso 20 years ago.

MamaG · 19/03/2010 18:05

A big cock to sit on as i type

ChoChoSan · 19/03/2010 18:05

Removing the silly log-in pop up, that makes logging in a three step process:

Click log in

type user and password and click

click to return to mn page

why not just have boxes on front page to enter user name and password, and then click once and you're in?

spudmasher · 19/03/2010 18:06

gasp MamaG!!

Cyclops · 19/03/2010 18:06

No limit to thread length so that really interesting debates can continue until posters naturally run out of steam.

MamaG · 19/03/2010 18:13

usualsuspect · 19/03/2010 18:14
