What SINGLE thing would make Mumsnet better for you?

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/03/2010 16:31

Thread rules:

  1. please be respectful to mnhq, this is not a bitch fest about MN
  1. only one THING per poster (or, if you must, you can have more than one but they must be on separate posts).

My thread. My rules. No arguments.

Right, I will start:

I do wish people would spend more time reading than posting. So often you have a thread (quite often an AIBU) where someone says "I haven't read the thread but YABU" or more often lately the highly unnecessary YABVVVVVVVVU when the thread has moved on hugely since the op, the arguments have all been had, everyone has bitched and moaned, made up, had a cup of tea, done a bit of ironing. If there is a slightly sparky looking OP and hundreds of posts on a thread, why not take that as a clue that the thread may well have moved on, questions asked and answers given, and read before you post?

PS What is "groooo"?

Slubberdegullion · 19/03/2010 20:05

God yes to the over exciter aibu-er. Calm down dears, you cannot deconstruct every thread on mn to un or over reasonableness.

I HATE myself when I accuse dh of being unreasonable and he give me the look. I have to go and hit myself with a spade in the garage I hate it so much.

[slightly drunken hyperbole]

ninah · 19/03/2010 20:05

ooh a teasmaid! that's an idea (throws corkscrew in recycling)

I second the refresh button at the bottom of the page......I know Cmd and R works, but requires 2 hands. (no F5 function on a Mac)

Also would like a debate about the webchat format, not sure they get the best out of guests at the moment.

FalafelAtYourFeet · 19/03/2010 20:07

Blackberry app

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/03/2010 20:08

Groooooo is nauseous but we don't like to talk about that do we ?

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/03/2010 20:10

I wonder if the Saga forum has an AIBU section?

It could be a deal-breaker if they do.

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/03/2010 20:10

Oh aye LadyBlahBlah - a 10/10 point.

The webchats. I quite agree.

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 19/03/2010 20:13

It could be, and they almost certainly do. Although probably ALL of the topics are for moaning with a special topic for being bright and cheery on.

Oh that sounds bad.

Old people are not necessarily moany.

I take the saga slander back.

Lexilicious · 19/03/2010 20:15

in the index of threads (within the topic or on Active or whatever), a column for when the thread was started - so you can see if someone has randomly resurrected a three year old one, or whether one has got 300 replies in its first day, or 30 over a week.

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/03/2010 20:24

Slubber, actually, I have just gone to Saga to look (for some reason, it let me on to its boards - the other day I thought it was telling me I had to join before I could see the boards). Anyway, no sign of an AIBU. There is actually a special "nostalgia" topic - oooh how exciting!

Then I clicked on a random chat topic and saw one poster had written "I fink her album is great". Shudder. FINK Urgh.

Slubberdegullion · 19/03/2010 20:28

LOL and at elderly txspeak

a nostalgia topic sounds great

Boco · 19/03/2010 20:29

I would like mumsnet to exist outside of the normal conventions of time - so that all the hours don't get sucked away leaving piles of washing and no tea.

ShowOfHands · 19/03/2010 20:29

Oooh I know.

3 buttons on each aibu thread. YABU, YANBU and 4.

And we can vote.

Slubberdegullion · 19/03/2010 20:33

could there be a 5?

This subject cannot under the strictures of the English language be discussed in terms of reasonableness or not. Please go and re write your thread title. Thank you kindly.

tethersend · 19/03/2010 20:34

I want awards.

Annually.

With different categories.

And I want to win one.

RustyBear · 19/03/2010 20:34

To all those who want an iPhone app- they are working on it!

I really hate forums that have a threaded view rather than a linear one like Mumsnet - it's confusing, you never know if you've followed all the 'trails' and anyway half of MN's charm is the way a thread starts off on potty training and ends up on Victoria Sponge Cakes....

sausagepastie · 19/03/2010 20:36

skull emoticon would be very rock and roll.

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/03/2010 20:40

I could combine cut glass tumblers and nostalgia threads by starting a nostalgia thread on the subject of "do you remember when you could get decent glasses from the garage?" Of course, I am as old as your mum and remember collecting them myself In the really old days, those glasses even lasted. My mother still has some (not cut glass) which I believe would withstand a direct hit by a nuclear device. Miles better than anything Nutella or Ikea can come up with these days.

I also remember when Esso gave away lovely posters of Tigers.

MmeLindt · 19/03/2010 20:42

I agree with Rustybear on the threaded columns, I find them very confusing.

Don't like being able to edit posts, unless it is apparent that the post was edited. The thread would not make sense if bits of it have been changed.

Or edit allowed until the next person posts a reply.

Slubberdegullion · 19/03/2010 20:42

LOLOLOL at DG

maybe you should start a thread about it

I would join in and nostalge about them

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/03/2010 20:44

"I really hate forums that have a threaded view rather than a linear one like Mumsnet "

see, I have no idea what this means!

OP posts:
Tortington · 19/03/2010 20:45

i would like the option to hide multiple threads at once rather than
hide
wait
page reload
hide
wait
page reload

Hullygully · 19/03/2010 20:58

I want sequns and spangles and general gaiety. Often it's all just too damn grim.
