What SINGLE thing would make Mumsnet better for you?

Thread rules:

  1. please be respectful to mnhq, this is not a bitch fest about MN
  1. only one THING per poster (or, if you must, you can have more than one but they must be on separate posts).

My thread. My rules. No arguments.

Right, I will start:

I do wish people would spend more time reading than posting. So often you have a thread (quite often an AIBU) where someone says "I haven't read the thread but YABU" or more often lately the highly unnecessary YABVVVVVVVVU when the thread has moved on hugely since the op, the arguments have all been had, everyone has bitched and moaned, made up, had a cup of tea, done a bit of ironing. If there is a slightly sparky looking OP and hundreds of posts on a thread, why not take that as a clue that the thread may well have moved on, questions asked and answers given, and read before you post?

OP posts:

yes, twee

fabhead · 22/03/2010 20:45

They work out of an office, not a castle or underground bunker!

AnnieBeansMum · 22/03/2010 21:22

LOL

zipzap · 22/03/2010 23:27

paisleyleaf thank you - hadn't spotted that one before! At least I guess I am thinking along the right lines - just a little behind everyone else (seems to be theme of my life at the moment!)

LittlePushka · 23/03/2010 00:04

Putting a "Z" in front of the Am I being unreasonable topics so that when looking on last 15 mins good threads are not buried beneath and the AIBU posts sit at the bottom of the scroll -

or better still, being able to exclude AIBU from the last 15 mins etc not just active conversations.

AIBU seems to dominate at times.

Also, in active conversations, it would be good if it were easier to see them sorted into the known topic groupings - I dont use it so much because it is not as easy to glance through as eg "last 15 mins" or "threads I'm on"

Thank you, one and all - we've now got a very long list of things to do/discuss/run away screaming from.

A few things we can sort rightaway:

zipzap We already have a (woefully) underused What Would You Do topic for AIBU wusses avoiders.

Furball Have you seen our Days Out section on our Reviews pages? Good for looking at when you're off somewhere new...

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/03/2010 14:26

One of the problems, to me, is that AIBU is the most prominent thread. The one that's listed first when you google "Mumsnet". I do wonder whether new people, and people who are in distress just stumble into it, when they would be better served on another Topic

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/03/2010 14:27

Oh, and because it seems so central to what MN is, the tone of it seeps into other topics, sometimes.

Furball · 24/03/2010 11:12

helenmumsnet - yeah but not but yeah but not but.......that page is ok ish, but if I was going on holiday to say Dorset......

It would be good if all the info on the mumsnet local, like play areas, playgrounds, decent restaurants, other things to do were available without having to register as wanting Dorset as your mumsnet local. maybe a 'just browse' facility

HelenMumsnet · 24/03/2010 13:17

Furball. If you go to Local and click on "Other Locations", you can add other Locals to your preferences without making them your "Home" Local.

(I've currently got about 45 in mine)

AnnieBeansMum · 24/03/2010 13:41

Ok...so WWYD and Days Out sorted.... now I shall just sit back and await the arrival of my shiny new iPhone, compliments of MNHQ.

Furball · 24/03/2010 16:24

Helenmumsnet - but a 'browse only' would be better rather than having to join 45

BecauseImWorthIt · 24/03/2010 21:39

I have had a brilliant idea.

The one single thing that would make MN better for me would be a waterproof laptop, so that I can have a bath and MN at the same time.

HelenMumsnet · 24/03/2010 23:35

ooh, GOOD idea, BIWI! I want one of those!
