Oh - PortAndLemmon - just seen your reply.

Thanks

I have it sorted now - I have pressganged persuaded my eldest that he can be apart from his GF for a couple of days and so he is coming to London with me. He will disrupt take them round Tate Britain or something while I go for interview.

llareggub · 08/02/2009 16:29

I bought my copy from Borders yesterday. I've had a quick flick through, laughed in places!

llareggub · 08/02/2009 16:43

My last post sounds a bit off. I've liked what I've read so far and laughed out loud in places. Well done you!

whomovedmychocolate · 08/02/2009 19:08

I've read a bit of it. The paper quality is a bit odd - DS has already eaten one of the pages so it must be tasty if nothing else . Now I just need the little buggers to go to sleep so I can read a bit more.

whomovedmychocolate · 08/02/2009 19:11

NB I do not generally judge books on their eating quality, unless they are cookbooks

morningpaper · 08/02/2009 19:33

The paper quality IS a bit odd

I ate a few pages too and it didn't taste nice at all

I love the Amazon reviews . They alone made me lol. I might have to buy a copy even though I don't really have a toddler any more.....

ace! Look forward to your verdict!

whomovedmychocolate · 09/02/2009 15:52

I was told off for laughing too loudly and waking the baby last night while reading the section on how to deal with tantrums. In particular the bit about brushing teeth with cats under arm, I can quite see myself doing that.

alexpolismum · 09/02/2009 15:54

It's not fair! I really want to read it and now I have to wait until May when my mum is coming over to visit and will bring it for me (I'm too tightfisted broke to pay the steep very reasonable postage out to Greece)

When is the Babies one due out? Is there going to be a section on breastfeeding? If so, tiktok should get her very own dedication and a share of the royalties.

kettlechip · 09/02/2009 16:25

I got mine last week and love it, it's made me laugh out loud within the first few pages and I've written a nice review on Amazon to sing its praises.
Weirdly, someone bought me the NetMums version last week (was going very cheap in the supermarket!) so I started that but it's nowhere near as good as the MN version. No SN section in there either unlike the brilliant one in the MN book.
Biased, moi?
Hope it does really well!

harpsichordcarrier · 09/02/2009 19:07

I probably should have checked to see if I was in it before I wrote a big old brown nosey review
AM I in it??not that I care or anything

nannynick · 09/02/2009 20:19

Mine has finally arrived from Waterstones Online. Only up to page 32 so far.
Looking great so far. I like the text size, easy to read. Pages seem to stick together a little, anyone else finding that or just my copy? I like the way the 'posts' are put in with the bold large text but still maintaining the reading flow.

Any plans for: Childcare: The Mumsnet Guide ?

nannynick · 09/02/2009 20:20

Haven't seen you in it in the first 32 pages Harpsichord

MouseMate · 10/02/2009 05:22

Got mine on Fri and had read the lot by Sun! Very good book, lots of laugh out loud moments (....can we go home now mummy, I really want to play with my penis......) and lots of sensible advice, without being preachy.

Even DH has been caught flicking thru it so it MUST be good.

Well done all

Since I haven't got the book yet - Amazon Prime my arse - I've reviewed the reviews

Nic2512 · 11/02/2009 01:08

I've got it too!

Have been browsing avidly over the weekend and am loving it!

Unfortunately I can't just read it in one go, which I so long to do... but he, you know, The Toddler won't let me!!!

Maybe I get a chance on the train to Scotland next week.

JulesJules · 11/02/2009 09:17

Most Waterstone's seem to have it in stock, according to the availability info online, if they haven't, customer orders placed in a store should come the next day, provided the wholesalers have stock. If they don't, that's a publisher issue - they can't have printed enough!

I've got mine (from Amazon - love all the reviews, not biased at all ) and it is the best book on toddlers by far, IMVHO. (Even though I do not appear to be in it.) It's funny, wise and brilliantly put together. You definitely get the feeling as you read that it is just like having a thousand people on your side who have been there before, this is in contrast to a lot of other books by bossy guru types. Mentioning no names...

But - I hate the paper and the print quality, I think it really lets it down. The layout is great, and the book is visually interesting because of that, although I don't like the illustrations particularly, but the paper is so cheap and the ink doesn't look dark enough. But, hey, it's going to be covered in red wine stains anyway isn't it?

Heebychick · 11/02/2009 10:38

Really love this book - how refreshing to have a book with real life stuff that includes all those sins (smacking, feeding baby chocolate buttons etc, dummies for 4 year olds) never dared talked about in real life! These things do happen and it's so good to know we're all normal and have each other to offer support.

Well done gals xx

Got mine today...... so far.... WELL DONE MP!!! Its ACE, loved Justines forward and your little intro - classic! x

Housemum · 13/02/2009 09:45

Got mine from Amazon - have been sneaking peeks as have had hectic week - a book has to be good when you snort at the introduction!

DH already bored with me reading out snippets that I giggle at - oh, and it's helpful as well as funny! 3 cheers to MP for compiling a childcare book that isn't condescending or patronising

Little - ahem- here - looked at the "links" page and no mention of NCT under BF help? They aren't just for babies and pregnancy you know! (now takes off NCT local commitee hat...)

Are there any "wholesale" rates if I try to see if our local NCT members wanted to buy copies - was thinking along the lines of a donation to NCT per copy sold? Obviously I could just buy from Amazon and make them stick a quid in the collecting tin before I let it out of my sticky mitts, but just thought I'd ask.
