excuse me for shouting

I have gone to customize, chosen MN classic, clicked save etc and I still have this set up which thank you very much is not for me right now. PLEASE help as this is ruining my relaxing breakfast over MN while DS watches Thomas time! [panic emoticon]

It is giving me a terrible headache

Is there a way of getting it back to before? Don't understand atm.

Still, a recession is on and I have work to do so maybe it is adios to mumsnet and a good thing.

PuppyMonkey · 30/01/2009 11:58

So, sorry for being thick and all... but threads no longer have separate pages any more is that right? It's all one big long thing? Or is that just my computer?

Don't like it.

nettie · 30/01/2009 12:03

I'm getting there, just need thread to be fatter, don't like these big white bits at the sides.

Gorionine · 30/01/2009 12:05

Still not managed to get "classic" back!

I give up!

trixymalixy · 30/01/2009 12:48

I want to get classic back as well!!!

If I don't have the explorer box full screen then I have to scroll along to see the full sentences.

I know it tooka lot of work Tech, and thatnks for your hard work, but can i please have Classic back, pretty please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

littleboyblue · 30/01/2009 14:57

No matter what I select on customize, it's doing sweet FA!
When I go into active convos I can't see the whole thread title, so click on things to discover I don't actually want to read them. Keep thinking, the computer screen is this size for a bloody reason, why is everything 2 inches off?

I don't know if I can hack this new layout, might have to go back to talking to people in RL

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 15:01

Littleboyblue - be patient will ya - we are fixing it all!

Fimbo · 30/01/2009 15:01

Have left it a couple of hours and come back to see if it would be any better. It's not and making my eyes really really sore.

Is there any word from Tech about getting proper Classic back?

littleboyblue · 30/01/2009 15:02

Ok Justine, sorry.

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 15:08

Can you expand a little on what you mean by "proper" classic.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 30/01/2009 15:13

I take "proper" classic to mean the way mumsnet was yesterday.

Threadworm · 30/01/2009 15:14

What is the thinking behind having a cosmetic overhaul every year or so?

paolosgirl · 30/01/2009 15:17

I don't like this new fangled version either. Were there lots of complaints about the way it used to look? Why did you change it? IT WAS FINE THE WAY IT WAS!

BONKERZ · 30/01/2009 15:22

im getting a headache! Its too bright and text is too small!

We aren't going to get Classic exactly as yesterday StripeyKnickers because we have a new top to the site and a fixed width. But the other bits of classic should be the same or near enough the same?

Threadworm it's only the second overhaul we've ever had in 9 years...and the first one was revised somewhat after much complaint, if you remember.

The thinking was to make the site more functional, especially for newbies. Over the years we've added lots of bits and bobs but not really with any real plan. We were getting some of feedback that MN was hard to navigate for new folk - most forums are exactly the same bit of software and it's only the colours that are different but MN is hand-built so not so familiar to the uninitiated.

We wanted to make it a bit easier and less cluttered, as well as to make it look a bit "now". After nearly ten years we thought it was looking a bit tired tbh.

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 15:28

Dittany, all the research says the opposite about margins - wide columns are supposed to be much harder to read than narrow. Though of course they'll be exceptions to any rule!

Threadworm · 30/01/2009 15:31

Ah, it's just that I've only been here two years or so, so I've seen both of the hysterically unpopular overhauls without experiencing the seven years of calm.

KnowItAllMummy · 30/01/2009 15:32

I dont like how when you have the window smaller than the width you have to scroll across, where as before it would shrink, i like to have MSN, MN and sometimes a film open at once and be able to see them all and with the new width not adjusting it will just be too much hassle.
We will eventually get used to the new layout.

also i would love to see the whole of titles, rather than having to click on them to see.

whomovedmychocolate · 30/01/2009 15:36

Bugger - it doesn't work at all in Safari! I can't customize (sp?) yet I can't get the new style to work either.

Appreciate the need to innovate to keep the advertisers etc. happy but can I just point out the accessibility laws and the common sense or lack thereof of having titles in blue on a blue background. I've got perfect sight and it's giving me a headache.

Oh and the colours are all too soft and cuddly for me, but then I'm a complete ratbag .

I know someone has probably spent hours changing this but I HATE IT and am having a hissy fit. It has given me a headache, a am finding it really hard to read and it won't customise- what are you lot at MNHQ going to do about it?
