I CAN NOT GET MN CLASSIC BACK AND I WANT IT

excuse me for shouting

I have gone to customize, chosen MN classic, clicked save etc and I still have this set up which thank you very much is not for me right now. PLEASE help as this is ruining my relaxing breakfast over MN while DS watches Thomas time! [panic emoticon]

We aren't going to get Classic exactly as yesterday StripeyKnickers because we have a new top to the site and a fixed width. But the other bits of classic should be the same or near enough the same?

Threadworm it's only the second overhaul we've ever had in 9 years...and the first one was revised somewhat after much complaint, if you remember.

The thinking was to make the site more functional, especially for newbies. Over the years we've added lots of bits and bobs but not really with any real plan. We were getting some of feedback that MN was hard to navigate for new folk - most forums are exactly the same bit of software and it's only the colours that are different but MN is hand-built so not so familiar to the uninitiated.

We wanted to make it a bit easier and less cluttered, as well as to make it look a bit "now". After nearly ten years we thought it was looking a bit tired tbh.

Dittany, all the research says the opposite about margins - wide columns are supposed to be much harder to read than narrow. Though of course they'll be exceptions to any rule!

and why does the last post keep going to the top but you have to scroll down to add another post? i flipped it, added another post and it un-flipped itself! now its at the flipping top again!

YOu can change the way it the messages appear (top to bottom or bottom to top) in customise.

you also have an add a message link next to every post (see right hand side of blue bar next to report). You don't need to do any scrolling RedOnHerHead.

Threads I'm watching - restore

Scrolling issue when browser size small

Classic - restoring actual Classic look (it's not quite right at the moment - active conversations text is too small, reads the wrong way, purple clicked on links etc)

Classic options in customise - making them stick

Active conversations - titles of threads truncated (this will be a couple of days)

Search button at top of pages not right

Search button required in advanced search

Threads I'm on summary list restore

minimum font size in firefox and text wrapping (see if we can solve)

media requests/ for sale first post not showing in some set ups

TequilaMockinBird try selecting MN New in customise then saving, then customising again to how you like it - should sort out the ads pushing things down the page.

Hello everyone, sorry.
There are a few problems at the moment as you've noticed:

  1. the classic option button isn't working
  2. if you opt for classic look it isn't faithful to old-classic (colours, text size, order things are showing etc)
  3. there are a few other things that are functioning well in non-classic but not in classic mode - eg purple threads once you've clicked on them

all this, I promise, is right at the top of our to do list (some of it is BigTech's domain and some of it is NikitaTech's). We should sort in it the next day or two [everything crossed emoticon]

NB if the ads are pushing things down the page try refreshing, and/or saving mn new, then selecting classic colours etc (not the classic button at the top of customise - that's busted atm)

Apologies for the inconvenience - promise we're not ignoring you.

NB in the interests of full disclosure I should say that Classic will still have the new top (ie MN angels and top talk navigation) and be fixed width - ie white margins.
