Xenophobia, homophonic, transphobia

Are you gonna do anything about it? Like, i know the line is that shoving the madness in the feminism board means it's not transphobia. And I know it's been done to death but I'm sick of it. It's not acceptable. Xenophobia, racism and homophobia also increasing.
And no. I won't leave. This is the biggest forum of its kind and it needs to represent and respect us all. And care that it's not.

Totally agree. I particularly dislike the transphobia and the absolutism on the feminism boards. Human being are complex organisms and scientists have known for decades that sex isn’t always binary. DM was a researcher in a hospital lab in the 1960s and one of the things she was doing was looking at the chromosomes of people (not sure if babies, children, adults or all of them) in cases where it was not clear whether they were male or female. Apparently they sometimes had an extra chromosome eg XXY. I can’t remember what other abnormalities they found. Even when the chromosomes are normal-looking, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are other things that can go ‘wrong’.

You will not find one single Biologist who denies that sex is binary, @dizzydizzydizzy . Not....one.

DSDs/intersex actually confirm the binary nature of sex. In fact, intersex confirms the binary nature of sex as every single DSD/intersex condition is either male specific or female specific. You are spouting dangerous misinformation. Also those with DSDs/intersex have asked that you not weaponise them in this discussion. 'Sex isn't binary because.....intersex' is dangerous misinformation.

Is isn’t different from saying ‘men are biologically designed to reproduce with women’ as an argument against homosexuality. Technically a fact but still doesn’t change the fact that they are gay and aren’t going to do that. Would you go around arguing that point unprompted?

What genitalia a person might have has nothing to do with you, doesn’t change them as a person and makes no difference to anything really. It’s a Mumsnet obsession at this point, I know quite a few trans people, through work and in my personal life, and it really is a non issue in real life.

I know lots of transgender people and always have been around the lgbt brigade partly because I'm part of it and am drawn to it.
Unfortunately and incredibly I am also deemed transphobic just because I don't believe that transwomen are actually women or transmen are men, even if in real life I'll usually just go along with it and not get deep about it.
Politically though, I think it's a bigger issue and the damage that the T has done to the acceptance and progression of lgb causes, is outrageous

Males getting undressed in front of females are flashing. Why do you think it's ok for males with a penis to get undressed in front of women and girls in the ladies?

Why do you think a male exposing his penis in the ladies changerooms is 'ok' because he wears a dress?

I don't want to see a strange women's vagina in a changing room either.

Sex is binary, with variation within the sexes. XXY is Klinefelters syndrome.

I am a (cisgender) woman, with an age, and a physical disability so clearly not.

Cisgender? Hmm Looks like you have succumbed to the gendercult. Get well soon.

I've yet to see any example of "transphobia" that doesn't turn out to be "Men aren't allowed to demand everyone else plays along with their fantasies."

The very existence of Kinefelter’s Syndrome demonstrates that not everyone fits unambiguously into a male or female category. Obviously the vast majority of people do.

You know that this is not a 3rd sex right?

Intersex (DSDs now) is NOT a 'third sex'. A medical anomaly is no more proof sex isn't binary, than a baby born with three legs is proof the human species are tri-ped, not just bi-ped.

@BitOutOfPractice

So, you are sick of women talking about an issue that affects every area of their lives?

Right.

Well, I’m not going to apologise for thinking that a brand aimed primarily at female shoppers should be following the law and protecting women’s rights. Or that I look at what a political party’s stance on women’s rights is before casting my vote. It’s unfortunate you find that boring.

Edited

You know full well that's not what I said. I'm just sick of it being shoehorned into every conversation.

It's the same whenever I make this point on MN. I am accused of stifling debate, of not being a feminist / hating women, of not realising how very very serious this "problem" is. Every time.

The irony is I agree with some (not all by a long chalk) of your views. But I am put off from engaging in the debate by the ridiculous relentlessness of it on MN.

When you say that people don't all fit unambiguously into the male or female category you are not saying there is a 3rd sex, so you ARE saying that there are 2 sexes?

If it is being 'shoehorned' into 'every' conversation then do you think that lots of people do indeed find it an issue otherwise they wouldn't keep banging on about men in female spaces?

All the men have to do is to stay out, why should women have to shut up about it just to protect other women who don't want to hear about it?

Klinefelter's Syndrome only affects males.

So it's proof of the sex binary.

This thread is a case in point. It started out about xenophobia, homophobia and transphobia. I have just returned to it to find a wall of memes, all about the gender "debate" (except it isn't a debate because no other views are allowed), and the issues the OP wanted to discuss are all steamrollered out of the way.

i agree there is no third sex.

I was saying that doctors know that sometimes it is ambiguous what a person’s sex is. This is clearly an anomaly in development, as is a baby with 3 legs.

Id encourage my 16 year old to train harder and beat the old person. You may instill different values in your children.

And what if the male who wants into the women's sport is also a teenager? Could the 16 year old girl out train them? The record books suggest not. Or do you think all female athletes are just a bit lazier than male ones?

The first two replies were ‘yes it’s totally
anti-trans’. Many of us (who want single sex spaces to remain so) are awaiting examples of this. If you’re going to state something at least have something to back it up. Still waiting.
