Site continually crashing and reloading

I am so utterly sick of this, it’s been going on for months but now it’s even worse, in the space of 15 minutes the site has crashed and reloaded 3 times, each time I have lost my post I was typing, it’s infuriating, I am on an iPad using safari. This has been highlighted by numerous posters time and time again and nothing changes.

I changed a while ago to DuckDuckGo. If mumsnet come on here and say they think they've fixed it then I try safari again, find it doesn't work and go back to DuckDuckGo.
I'm not entirely unreasonable, I understand that they want ad revenue, and if the site worked reasonably well on Safari then I'd be happy to use it and accept seeing ads. But it doesn't.

Oh, and I get 19 trackers blocked when I load a page with DuckDuckGo.

This. I try it on Safari every few months, find it still unusable and go back to DDG. I would tolerate a few ads but I literally can’t use it on Safari because of them.

I tried duck duck I'm on it now, still clunky taking ages to load. But it's stopped jumping around.

NewAgeNewMe · 26/04/2026 10:18

DuckDuckGo is so much better. At least I can read and post.

dontcallmelen · 02/05/2026 11:28

Anyone else have the latest feature of this ongoing never ending farce, now when you try & ‘click’ onto the next page of a thread it reloads & takes you back to the page you’ve read takes a couple of attempts before you can get to the next page, also happens when you try & open a new thread brings you back a couple of times to the thread you have tried to exit.

Yup. Bloody painful trying to navigate anywhere. And also still draining my battery.

dontcallmelen · 01/07/2026 20:11

Any updates @BeckyAMumsnet its still ongoing reloads every time you try & click onto pages/see all feature or when you try & click onto a new thread it’s not improved in any way if any thing it’s gets worse.

RedRiverShore6 · 06/07/2026 22:56

It's still not working on my iPad so still just using the iMac as it only works on that, it makes my iPad hot and drains the battery and crashes Safari so no other page loads, this has been months now.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 07/07/2026 01:10

Having this a lot today on safari and Orion on iPad. Downloaded duck duck go thanks to this thread and it’s much better.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 07/07/2026 06:19

Yeah mines doing bit even in the ‘i’m on screen’ this morning. Let’s face it they’ve had plenty time to address it and nothing has happened. The revenue from the ads that slow the site seem more important than the users these days.

Slottiethesluttie · 13/07/2026 11:01

Agree. The site is virtually unusable at this point. Every page I have to do a hard shut down and reopen to get it to load

Sycamoretree2025 · 15/07/2026 11:56

This issue is making the site completely unusable. I have tried all the ‘hacks’ suggested and nothing helps. I agree that it seems getting maximum advertising revenue is far more important than getting this sorted out.

HookLineandStinker · 15/07/2026 12:32

I agree that it seems getting maximum advertising revenue is far more important than getting this sorted out.

Eventually those paying for their advertising will realise that fewer people are using the site because it's so unpleasant, for whatever reason, and go elsewhere. A bit of forward thinking wouldn't go amiss.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 15/07/2026 20:20

I've had days of pages freezing half way through and having to close everything down again but a new problem today as I'm getting notifications but when I click to read the update it goes to the last page of the thread and then takes about 4-5 mins to actually move to the latest posts.

It is reminding me of the online version of our local newspaper which as become impossible to use because the stories are either very slow to load or paras jumping around as numerous ads load up.

justasking111 · 15/07/2026 22:56

Mines freezing rather than returning to the last post I read. It's also moving as slow as molasses. I wonder if it is the heat affecting the servers.

baroqueandblue · 16/07/2026 09:58

If I refresh a page it doesn't automatically land at my last bookmarked post, just goes to the top of the page.

When I click on a notification about a post I've made, it does a similar thing: doesn't go to the post itself, just to the top of the page.

Has only started doing this today. I'm using Chrome on Android, haven't had this problem before and it's irritating.

Anyone else?

HookLineandStinker · 16/07/2026 11:24

When I clicked on my notifications yesterday it would take dial up waiting times to get to the posts. Today I've had a mixture of the same and immediate, there doesn't appear to be a pattern.

I’ve been on this thread a few times. But i was reading today. It refreshed and it also froze.

When i looked through there are several long adverts : some moving. Adverts in the guise of mumsnet posts sometimes after just 2/3 actual posts then guess what…. another long advert that’s blank cos it can’t load. It’s utterly ridiculous and makes the site unreadable and unusable because it refreshes and takes you to the top and you lose your place.

But as long as the revenue is coming in…

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 21/07/2026 12:07

I’ve switched browser to chrome as suggested instead of safari. It’s a little better but it still freezes and jumps to the wrong bit mid scrolling/ reading. Frustrating.
I’ll use go to next comment for op but that only works 3/4 times then takes me back to the top.

Same issue here, it's been terrible for a few weeks now. It's worse when I'm on my iPhone on Safari and seems directly related to huge, all-singing and dancing video ads. If there is an ad that has a banner at the top and both sides, all with separate moving videos, plus other whole-page moving ads in the body of threads - which happens so often now - there's absolutely no chance of reading the thread without it constantly crashing and reloading.

Scroll the thread? It reloads. Have the temerity to enlarge the view? It reloads. Repeatedly. Want to turn the phone on its side to view landscape, so you can enlarge the text to read it (hello varifocal contact lenses) and not scroll back and forth constantly? Reload, reload, then get a message the page repeatedly reloaded so Safari gave up and it can't be viewed.

And don't get me started on the bossy instructions for me to 'rotate your device' when I don't want to, and when it's only for the purpose of an ad being shown to me.

It's making the site a real pain to use, not a pleasure anymore.

I have no problem whatever with being shown ads, if that's the way Mumsnet want to make money, then good luck to you, I'm all for it. But the site does need to be usable.

Off the top of my head, some of the ads that have caused the most problems are:
Bronco Stop
Uniqlo
Co-op funeral care
That advert for something or other (something financial) where some twats dressed up as sheriffs jump up and down gurning, finishing with a big, phone-screen-long picture of a sheriff's badge.

Oh, and when the thread is interrupted for a whole page ad, the site jumps, so that once being subjected to the ad is over, you're not where you were when you were interrupted, but are several posts above or below instead, so you end up scrolling up and down to find your place and have the ad play again.... 😡

Al of this but also for me if I highlight and try to ‘’select’ to copy some text, it reloads. It reloads to a different place like a page back or more I think. I have no idea. I completely lose the thread of the thread and have to give up. Can happen every few minutes so I have to stop using the site basically.

also not being able to highlight and C&P a short section to quote means that more people are having to use the whole quote function to refer to a previous post. That is elongating reply posts unnecessarily which I had thought (seeing the new features) MN didnt like in principle?

I don’t want to have to scroll past unnecessarily long quotes in posts if it can be avoided. I’m confused why it hasn’t been able to be fixed after this time.

AmeliaPMumsnet · 24/07/2026 16:51

Hi all,

Thank you for your patience, and apologies for the lack of an update here.

We're still investigating the crashing and freezing issue, but unfortunately it isn't a straightforward problem to solve. We can also see there are a number of other issues being raised on this thread that are separate from the crashing and freezing. We really want to make sure issues don't get lost on long threads so if you're experiencing a problem that is different to crashing and freezing, like losing your reading position when you return back to a thread for example, please do start a new thread - and we'll make sure we get onto it straight away.

We know these problems are happening across different browsers, but Chrome is currently proving to be the most stable. If you aren't already using it, we'd be grateful if you could give it a try and let us know whether it makes any difference.

We're working hard behind the scenes to get this resolved, and we completely understand how frustrating it is. Thank you for bearing with us.

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 24/07/2026 16:57

But it’s been 8 months since this thread started and the crashing and reloading were being reported long before then, how can it be taking the best part of a year and you still haven’t resolved it?

I only use DuckDuckGo now, have had no problems since I switched. I think we can all guess why.

Thanks for that tip, I shall try that! Using MN on Safari or Chrome crashes all the time (for me).
