Site continually crashing and reloading

I am so utterly sick of this, it’s been going on for months but now it’s even worse, in the space of 15 minutes the site has crashed and reloaded 3 times, each time I have lost my post I was typing, it’s infuriating, I am on an iPad using safari. This has been highlighted by numerous posters time and time again and nothing changes.

This is particularly bad this morning. It’s the adverts i think that are too much with small, large, moving and video all in one page and causing it. But we can’t get rid of those to help user expedience which is why it just gets worse🙄 i barely come on here now and when i do im not on long cos its so bloody frustrating

Agree it's getting worse. They need to reboot their server or buy a new hamster. Getting tired of seeing the "dial-up swirls" on every post. Yes I did mean post and not thread!

I’d be interested to know, if people who have premium also have these issues.

If MN are planning on selling as pp said, one would think, they’d want the site to be in complete working order,to be able to sell.

I have the same, the reloading and jumping to bottom of page. Losing half written posts which before would save in draft automatically

I also don’t get the navigation bar that used to be around to go to Active, watching, threads I’m on etc. I have to pull down the arrow in the top right hand corner and get those options that way.

I know the owners want to seek but they’re trying to sell a site that’s extremely difficult to engage with as a poster (rather than just a reader). Posters populate the site for free and make the site a lot of money. Stop making it so difficult or the site dies and with it a good resource for women.

It looks a total mess. iPhone 13, google chrome.
I’d like the same Active, I’m On etc navigation bar to appear top and bottom of the thread.
It s like where’s Wally trying to spot the navigation bar at the bottom of the page at the moment. Does not appear at all at the top

AHH this explains why the site appears to have been so quiet over the weekend. Mind you could be gardening fans and spring cleaning fans laying down their phone

The only visible advert while this is happening, is ‘Play Today’s Guessword’, if that helps to mention

Has the page layout changed this morning trending is underneath the end of a page & active/im watching etc is on a bar at the bottom of the page was a bit confused it’s still reloading though every time you click on a new thread or change page.

Page layout now back to normal all very odd.

Hello everyone, thanks for your posts. If you’re still running into crashing or freezing, one thing that’s helps is closing the video player using the ‘X’. Once it’s closed, it shouldn’t reappear during that session. Please do let us know how you get on with that and do share your feedback.

The layout issues reported earlier should now be fixed for users posting on web. There are issues on android app that we are currently trying to resolve. Thank you.

@BeckyAMumsnet hi it’s makes no difference to the reloading-freezing if i click on the moving ad “x” & remove it, still does it regardless.

Site is still freezing. Clicking onto links to threads, different boards, notifications links, etc often takes two or three goes for it to “register”.

And I’m getting mightily fed up of getting halfway through typing out a detailed (and hopefully useful) post of advice, to then have the site crash/reload and all my typing is gone. I then give up because I can’t be arsed to do it again.

This is still the only site I use that makes my device run hot and it drains the battery life much quicker.

The video pops up again almost straight away after I use the x. And it makes me lose my place as it scrolls back to the top.

Ok, in the spirit of fairness and being helpful I have gone back to Safari and tried mumsnet on there once again.
If I click the cross on the most annoying advert it does stay closed for the session.
The advert at the top of the page takes a good 10 seconds to load and there are still moving adverts that I can't close on the right.
Scrolling down the page was very jolty.
As I was reading a thread the page was reloaded twice because a 'problem occurred'.
Will return to the other browser for now because it still isn't good enough.

It’s like MN are deliberately trying to run MN down, and I don’t know why.

This is constant again, over and over again, can barely get through a page of posts without it freezing and it freezes all my other tabs that I have open too

What video player? There isn't a video player just a blank screen.

Here's a selection of 'Mumsnet has frozen and I have to close safari' pictures from last night and this morning. None of them have a video player to close.

Also when on safari I have to close the tab and then reopen another.

I’ve since downloaded DuckDuckGo app as suggested on another thread and it works brilliantly.

Can anyone else having these problems please check their private messages on MN? I’m assuming this is related but now when I open up PMs I can only see one thread at the top of the list, the page can’t be scrolled down. I know there are several threads in there.
And to make it worse I can only view four (Half the width of the page) lines of the conversation at any one time because this is how the display is letterboxed between all the other MN bumf on the webpage.
Please MN I really need to be able to see ALL my list of messages to find an important contact that was shared with me via DM a few months ago. I need to be able to view the threads in PM normally.
The PM function is essentially unusable at the moment. Please could you fix it. I have not changed how I access the site so it’s not at my end whatever is going wrong here. Please help.

Quick update to say private messages are working normally again, phew.

Page reloading is still extremely frequent and annoying though. I do rush to close every video but it still happens. Usually goes back to the top of the page, pretty sure sometimes it goes back to the previous page. Long running threads are really hard to follow now.

If this problem in response to video ads is going to be integral to the user experience, Could MN help users to compensate by introducing a ‘scroll down to the end of the page’ button to allow us to find our places again more easily?
