Why has MN changed colour?

It's awful! About 10 mins ago I refreshed a page and the blue banners changed to a much brighter shade, and the OP is highlighted in grey instead of green, and I hate it. It's too bright. What's happening??

Galaxy A55, latest version of Chrome.

Hi @JaneJeffer

The grey option is just for MNHQ posts so users can easily spot official updates.

JaneJeffer · 24/09/2025 11:07

I am so confused

Hi @JaneJeffer

The grey option is just for MNHQ posts so users can easily spot official updates.

But it’s virtually indistinguishable from the white background.

The old blue shading for MN posts was far easier to spot.

Grey is very easy to miss when scrolling, especially in a thread with a lot of (grey) quotes in other posts.

If this redesign was an in-house job, I recommend employing qualified, specialist contractors next time.

If this was done by qualified, specialist contractors then MN should demand a refund.

FeralWoman · 24/09/2025 14:39

@LizzyMumsnet MNHQ posts are blue for me. Quoted posts are grey. I’m using classic green and classic purple.

Why has MN changed colour?
NoBinturongsHereMate · 24/09/2025 14:54

That's not what I'd call blue, @FeralWoman. In fact I turned my blue light filter off to check, and it somehow got less blue.

FeralWoman · 24/09/2025 15:01

It’s blue compared to the obvious grey. Although I was using new grey for OP posts over the weekend because it was nicer than new blue or new green.

lavendermilkshake · 25/09/2025 01:25

The new bright pink for threads you've opened on Active is retina searing.

Exactly - why change the colour to grey which we all associate with someone quoting another post.

None of this makes sense.

I really do wonder who undertook this upgrade, and also what were the objectives.

Did MNHQ say please make mumsnet more girly and bland, or .... what?

A more useful exercise would have been to think of better tech solutions to some things that are a bit clunky.

Or even make the search function useful.

I get better results using a search engine and just add mumsnet as the first word of the search string. Amazing what you can find.

Another glitch (and I hate twitter myself) but many share info from twitter where the link to the twitter poster would be @ whatever but if you do that MN software has a hissy fit and says this isn't an MN users, and wont post your message. But this should be possible because it is actually a way of linking to the twitter post.

(Just found this post not posted 4 hours after I wrote because - sigh - I didn't add a space after the @ and MN couldn't find a poster call whatever. Really, really bad software programming)

IwantToRetire · 05/10/2025 20:12

Is the blue for labels, buttons etc., less bright.

I think it might be, but my brain is now so wired to seeing MN as headache inducing glare, that I am still getting a reaction to it.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 05/10/2025 23:58

Yes I think it has been toned down. Not back to the original shade, but not as searingly bright as their first attempt.

Thanks. I suspect you are right, but its as though I have retained that sense of come on mumsnet and be dazzled by brilliant blue!

begone25 · 01/02/2026 07:40

Have the colours changed again? The Mumsnet blue is now showing up more like bright purple for me now?

DeanStockwelll · 01/02/2026 08:30

No , or at least not for me.
Have you gone to 'settings' and tried changing it back ?

Thanks, tried that but can’t seem to see an option to change colours (only light/dark mode)

Yes. It was its usual self earlier and now it's gone all vivid and horrible. Why keep bloody trying to fix things that aren't broken?

begone25 · 01/02/2026 11:41

Thanks @UnimatrixZeroOneI was beginning to question my eyesight!

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 01/02/2026 11:47

Funnily enough, a few days ago I tried to go on MN while I was out of signal and my phone loaded a cached copy page from months back before the last colour change - presented here for comparison 😭 I still miss the subtle grown up old colours! But fortunately have not yet been subjected to any further changes...

Why has MN changed colour?

@GeniuneWorkOfFartI just did a colour comparison too! For some reason mine only updated to the garish blue today?!

That blue is so much part of the branding and has been for the 20+ years I’ve used the site! Did they come up with a response as to why it’s been changed?

Go to Settings, then More Settings, then Talk Settings. Scroll down for colours.

Still the bright new blue here.

KellyMumsnet · 02/02/2026 10:02

Morning everyone. Can we ask are those seeing a colour change using the app? We have updated the colours on the app to match those on the website, so if you've updated to the newest version of the app, that might explain it.

Tcateh · 03/02/2026 08:26

I'm on the android app. I don't use the website.
So I wouldn't know what that colour looks like.

This blue is literally giving glare.
Why on earth did you change it from the traditional blue?
Why change it anywhere when it's the mn brand.

There is a setting in the android app to have normal, dark or lighter mode.

Dark mode causes worse effects for me. My vision and cognitive experience.

Clicking light mode makes no difference at all.

Turning the brightness down each time does not detract from the Crayola blue hue, and it's basically ruining my experience here.

Do you ever think about users who have sensitivities with their vision. Bright blue background with white type isn't conducive to a good visual experience.

Pissed off.
