Why has MN changed colour?

It's awful! About 10 mins ago I refreshed a page and the blue banners changed to a much brighter shade, and the OP is highlighted in grey instead of green, and I hate it. It's too bright. What's happening??

Galaxy A55, latest version of Chrome.

Posting to see how this looks

I usually read in dark mode. But threads I’m on have no different colour for my posts, and I can’t alter anything in Settings.

Instructions above the box of colour options are in a hideous shade of red that appears blurry and double.

The bright blue in light mode is garish, cheap and nasty.

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 18/09/2025 17:02

I've had to turn the brightness on my screen down to one above minimum to make MN readable. Except now I have to change it back for every other website, because they're all normal brightness. Just ridiculous, who on earth thought this was a good idea?

It's horrid. Otiose labels on colour-coded posts and the cobalt blue is far too bright. Worse is that the dark setting isn't a viable alternative because so many display features are missing. Not sure I can put up with it. The interface was already pretty crap.

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 18/09/2025 17:05

And this monstrosity?? Why? Just WHY? It's ugly and visually intrusive, drawing my eye to this big red blob to tell me I'm looking at my own post. It's really really horrible site design and so unnecessary, fulfils no useful purpose at all. I know it's my post!

My posts 🤣

The new design should have been tested with a sample of users before it was implemented. While the colours are nice, they are a very poor choice for screen reading. I hope MN will act on this feedback.

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 18/09/2025 17:07

It's basically Tesco Value Mumsnet now. That's the colour scheme isn't it?

It’s prawn cocktail MN

Please don’t ever do this to the app

Will they fuck, they never do. But I don't get why, if this colour scheme is so amazing, it wasn't just added as an option for those weirdos who want it instead of imposed on everyone without a word being said.

The wonderful app that loves my posts so much it thinks they’re worth repeating

Oh, has that not changed? Maybe it's a plan to force everyone onto the app.

This pink hurts my heart everytime I post 😭

It reminds me of when Facebook sorry , Meta changed its look a year or so ago. It's the same shitty bright blue. Like when you had to go into Safe Mode because you'd been hacked. Everything looks like you've been transported back to 1998. Just crap.

They did do some sampling. I remember reviewing a load of colour options and commenting on them.

The big "my post" thing was one I remember saying was intrusive and distracting!

I'm on the Andriod app and it hasn't changed for me yet.

I think I chose green for OP - this isn't. It's almost indistinguishable from the regular background.

I get that strong colours aren't great for accessibility, but could the intrusive ORIGINAL POSTER label and very pale colours not be an option rather than everyone being stuck with it?

Lifestooshort71 · 18/09/2025 17:27

Makes my eyes hurt. Don't like it. Please change it back

justforthis · 18/09/2025 17:29

Just adding a message for the colour. Why can't it stay as it was. Too much for this Mumsnet veteran 😭

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 18/09/2025 17:29

Have blurred vision.
For those of us with migraine, this is unusable. It's not a case of not liking it, or getting used to it. It is excluding us altogether.
Even with the brightness turned right down it is still affecting my vision.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 18/09/2025 17:32

Hang on. It says original poster every time op posts? Whats the point if it’s in your chosen highlighted colour too?

Same here, so I tried the blue and the grey and they just look exactly like the weird pale colour the green has now gone 😳

😂
yes it’s daft.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/09/2025 18:15

This is genuinely painful and difficult to read. The massive banners saying OP and "My Posts " are also unnecessary - surely that is what the colour coding is for?

HansHolbein · 18/09/2025 18:16

Fucking awful. Especially if you click active.
