Why has MN changed colour?

It's awful! About 10 mins ago I refreshed a page and the blue banners changed to a much brighter shade, and the OP is highlighted in grey instead of green, and I hate it. It's too bright. What's happening??

Galaxy A55, latest version of Chrome.

Dear god this salmon colour for "my posts" is hideous 🐠

It really is. One has to wonder whether the colours were picked by lucky dip, rather than chosen because they worked at least as well as the existing options.

The previous colours were dated. In a few weeks you'll forget them.

That came across as patronising.

No, bad design always grates. And where users' accessibility needs aren't met, they won't get over that in a few weeks.

Why? Why have you done this? It's made MN pretty much unreadable. And it's the whole site, not just threads. The dazzling brightness, dayglo shade of blue, and poor contrast are site wide not just on threads.

Your post (in a charming shade of palest grey) does not link to the thread in question, but only back to the main site.

I've been here over 15 years. I read in dark mode. Now my colours have gone and I'm sad.

Trovindia · 18/09/2025 23:41

Mine just changed to bright blue, it's hideous! I don't like it at all.

Did you give any consideration to people with migraine or epilepsy before making the changes?

Did you give any consideration to people with migraine or epilepsy before making the changes?

Or even those who just don’t want to be blinded?

I’m squinting so hard I suspect I’ll have new wrinkles tomorrow,

GlomOfNit · 19/09/2025 00:11

MN, please sort this out. Was there even a consultation on this? It's bright and garish and actually hurts my eyes. Also, I object to my posts being highlighted in bloody PINK!!

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 19/09/2025 08:45

its such a big difference! The old scheme was calm.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 19/09/2025 08:46

Oh where’s my pic

not sure all those others are up!

Do you always have loads of tabs open? That would give me heebies.

Or to those with less than perfect sight. I have a cataract in one eye and the brightness is horrible. My laptop brightness setting is already down at 26% so I can't dim it any further or other sites will be unreadable.

I want the OP to go back to being green! I’m all upset!😀

Same here - this is hard to look at.

No33 · 19/09/2025 14:47

I find it very hard to believe this hits any standards for accessibility.

Just admit defeat and change back. We can all pretend this didn't happen.

ILikeDinosaurs · 19/09/2025 15:07

Why do the colours for my posts and Op posts not work in Dark mode? (I'm on macbook Chrome.)

Yes! I have 117 open
but I’ve organised them into work shopping and house. I’d forget what’s I’d been looking at otherwise

AuldWeegie · 19/09/2025 18:20

A couple of hours ago on light mode the background colour appeared more like cream or pale sepia but now it’s back to glaring white.

It’s really awful.

Thelnebriati · 19/09/2025 20:18

Another vote for how awful it is. Why are you pretending the sand colour is green? I have eyes. Hex #F6F7F1 is 'spring Wood' according to Colour Name Finder.

Does it not properly drain your battery though? Surely you don't need loads of Mumsnet pages open.

Heebies here Grin
