A few updates to Mumsnet 🎨

You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

Hi all, just to update - thanks for all your feedback - we've been going through it carefully.

To address some issues raised so far about the changes:

  • Colours and contrasts were all checked for accessibility, and both the new blue and the new post colours meet AA standard and in many cases AAA which is gold standard for accessibility (the old blue and new blue both pass at exactly the same rate), AA is the standard across the majority of websites. That said, we know some of you are finding the new colours harder to look at on certain devices, so we will be making the colours a shade darker to increase contrast and provide more distinction.
  • No change has been made to the brightness of the white background on posts.
  • Removing the username and timestamp from deleted and withdrawn posts is a bug, which we’re fixing now.
  • We’ve also heard concerns that highlighting your own posts so clearly could cause issues in domestic violence situations. We are taking this feedback very seriously and will be implementing a setting so people can hide the labels.
  • Moving the Report link was a data-based decision following no material change in the number of reports in testing but we’ll be monitoring closely to make sure it doesn’t reduce the number of useful reports and of course we won’t hesitate to move it back, should we see any decline.
  • We will also be adding different background shades for posts in dark mode.
Other questions that have been raised:
  • Save vs Watch: Save will add the thread to your saved list without notifying you. Watch will notify you about updates to the thread (unless you disable notifications).
  • We are currently working on the problem with not landing in the right place on the thread when you click back. It’s a complicated issue, so it’s taking a little while to fix - but we are on it.

It will take a few days to make these updates, but we’ll get started right away and you should begin seeing the changes on the site next week.

Thanks again for all your feedback!

Nice colour but it’s a bit bright. Or maybe it’s just my eyes👀

QueenClinomania · 18/09/2025 15:31

Its a bit bright. Is there an option to dim it down a touch?
My old eyes cant take it. 🤣

Devilsmommy · 18/09/2025 15:32

Definitely need sunglasses 😎

PhilMitchellsleatherbomber · 18/09/2025 15:33

It’s awful, so bright.

Monvelo · 18/09/2025 15:33

Oo it's pretty

Agapornis · 18/09/2025 15:33

I pressed 'see next' and it was suddenly very bright 😅
I set some custom colours to mark the OP and my own posts, those settings don't seem to have transferred? The OP is blue rather than the previous purple I chose.

So far so good - good idea to make the OP post's more visible.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 18/09/2025 15:33

Who did this survey? Liars?

murasaki · 18/09/2025 15:34

It makes my eyes hurt. And I already have the OP and my posts in different colours, so don't really need a massive bar above each one saying who it is.

What is it supposed to achieve? All I can see is that it looks very childish. If there are benefits, then ok, but I'm not sure what they would be.

DuckWithOneWing · 18/09/2025 15:34

It's too bright

Lisyo · 18/09/2025 15:35

Is save the same as watch?

ButSheSaid · 18/09/2025 15:35

Please don't remove dark mode.

I want mine restored to how I chose it- the OP and my posts in colour.

RightOnTheEdge · 18/09/2025 15:36

Mine just changed suddenly while I was reading a thread, I thought there was something wrong with my eyes 🤣
I like it though, its a nice colour.

I like that report post has moved because I kept pressing it by accident when I was scrolling and I don't want to accidentally report someone.

Excited Season 4 GIF by The Office

.

WallaceinAnderland · 18/09/2025 15:36

I already highlight my own posts so don't need a huge sign there too.

What would actually be useful is being able to go to my next post on the thread, the way you can 'see next' on the OP's posts.

I also don't need a huge sign saying OP on the, well, OP

ThreePears · 18/09/2025 15:36

No no no - please put 'Watch' back at the bottom as well. Otherwise it is a right pain in the whatsit if you have to scroll right back to the top of a long thread.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/09/2025 15:37

Has it been designed by Mr Tumble?

I don't like it. It's too bright and not adding my experience at all. Not classy.

murasaki · 18/09/2025 15:37

You probably have to access premium to turn it back! 🤣

Mantari · 18/09/2025 15:38

It is a bit bright tbh. Had to turn the brightness down on my phone.

10YearsAgo · 18/09/2025 15:38

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 18/09/2025 15:33

😂😂😂

It’s too bright. I have turned the brightness on my iPad down but I still need sunglasses 😎

ButSheSaid · 18/09/2025 15:38

murasaki · 18/09/2025 15:37

I have premium and they've still removed the colour for the OP and my own replies.
Who asked for this?

Everyonelikecapybaras · 18/09/2025 15:38

That blue is quite aggressively blue.

And I have eye saving thing on! Which this seems to override?

Lonelycrab · 18/09/2025 15:38

Yup agree it’s a bit bright

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 18/09/2025 15:38

The colours for the OP and me (blue and green) are too wish washy and not distinct. I sometimes want to scroll quickly until I get to the next post by OP and it’s too similar to the white that everyone else is.

WallaceinAnderland · 18/09/2025 15:39

Wait, I've just noticed you've added see all on the meatball menu. Thanks.

I also prefer Watch a the bottom of the page.

Can you remove the tick box automatically ticked to watch posts as it's annoying to have on both my I'm on and I'm watching. If I've commented, I don't need to watch it as well. I know I can manually untick each time but it's annoying that I have to.

Ta

TheDandyLion · 18/09/2025 15:40

Doesn't work in dark mode. There is no contrast colour between the OP and other people's posts.

The 'original poster' button is indistinguishable from the 'my posts' button.

Not accessible for people with visual impairments.
