These are driving me mad. I understand you need to sell advertising space, but on every thread there is a highly intrusive video. Even when I close them down they reappear on the same thread! Surely once a user has closed the ad that should be it?

Darragon · 25/08/2025 00:04

I'm getting pop up video ads covering banner ads and part of the (small) screen on my iphone 12 mini. I'm getting pop ups on my macbook air that won't fuck off when I click the X, they're like zombie pop ups that want to eat my brains and just won't stay X'd.

Branleuse · 25/08/2025 00:05

I got rid of the annoying adverts by subscribing!!

Its a good site. I use it a lot. They need to pay their staff etc. Its worth it.

Helleofabore · 25/08/2025 05:19

I just had a PayPal video hijack my full phone screen while I was in the middle of typing a reply to a post. Around 5 am this morning.

MN, this was reminiscent to the McAfee spam ads recently. But it didn’t redirect to a new URL. Still, it was an entire page video ad while I was mid message.

Has anyone found a way to stop these on Chrome on a laptop? Driving me nuts.

Download the Duck Duck Go extension for Chrome. 10 seconds and all the stuff that makes the site unusable for people who have disabilities relating to sight disappear.

I’ve literally just downloaded an ad blocker for the very same reason. It’s driving me mad!

Please tell me which one!! It’s driving me mad too.

MsDDxx · 23/08/2025 00:59

Good luck with that on here 😂

I just use the iPhone (Safari) feature to remove unwanted items. Have to do it on every page but it gets round not being able to use ad blockers on this site.

How do you do that?

How much is it to subscribe?

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 25/08/2025 06:36

Mumsnet - you need to stop these ads. They are making me feel sick!

Hello mnhq advertisers 😆

LoveMyLifeAlways · 25/08/2025 07:11

This place only works with an ad locker 🤷

JurassicPark4Eva · 25/08/2025 08:32

Really sick of this.

I'm on an Android phone so can't use the advice being posted here for Apple products.

I personally make a point of not buying from brands that deploy annoying adverts. You have to vote with your feet.

I’m using the app and haven't noticed it so far but if it becomes intrusive I would just leave.

Lksjoan · 25/08/2025 09:08

Still happening. It's bloody annoying and means I lose patience for using the site after a few minutes. I'm on an android phone.
@MNHQ why no response to this thread?

Lksjoan · 25/08/2025 09:10

This is how it currently looks - screenshot from just now - hardly any text visible

I had to disable my ad blocker. It allows you to view a few threads but then blocks you.

MsDDxx · 23/08/2025 08:28

Yes - on the browser address bar to the left there is a rectangle shape with two lines underneath it - click on that and then a few options appear including “hide distracting items”. Select that option and then you can select anything you want to hide/remove. I just leave it on until I move to the next page so I can instantly remove annoying ads.

I hope that makes sense 😆

I'm on an Apple laptop and can't see anything like that. Any suggestions?

Duck Duck Go is my Android browser as well. I said use it in answer to somebody specifically asking about Chrome on a laptop, but I've got an Android phone as well.

Wouldn't know what to do with an iPhone if you chucked one at me.

Darragon · 25/08/2025 11:59

Today I'm getting the video ad that just won't quit! In the time it took me to quickly tap out one post on a thread, the same popup appeared (and I closed it) 6 times. It was a popup for knickers or something and I didn't really want my young children seeing me on a site where apparently grown women prance around in nude knickers that look invisible from a distance.

Also, are your sponsors who are paying for advertising space happy to know that the ads they've paid for are being covered up by other ads? Because if I was spending my advertising budget I wouldn't be happy to drop it on a site that was allowing that to happen.

Darragon · 25/08/2025 12:01

My screenshot is under review. I am rather hoping that it gets rejected by the AI because that would prove how bloody inappropriate that ad is and how it has no place repeatedly popping up on this site!

SidewaysOtter · 25/08/2025 12:41

And now I’m finding pages don’t scroll properly, they move increeeeedibly sloooooowly and it’s unusable.

Probably because there’s so many crappy videos trying to load 😡

LadyMars · 25/08/2025 14:03

I’m so sick of the heavy advertising that impacts MNing.
I swear @MNHQ are toying with us to see how annoying it has to be for us to abandon ship.

LoveMyLifeAlways · 25/08/2025 15:02

It's like the old websites in the 2000s with ads flashing everywhere. No other website is like this.

Creu · 25/08/2025 15:07

Those shitty click bait news webpages are like that. No reputable website is that dysfunctional

Hobnobswantshernameback · 25/08/2025 15:35

Your site is unuseable
these ads make the site completely useless and sure as heck won't make me buy anything
