I've added a picture, though I don't know if it will be allowed. Ann Summers adverts have been popping up mid thread for a few days, mostly pictures of women in thongs and stockings from behind though also a model with crosses over her nips in some sheer thing. It's so embarrassing if I'm browsing MN in the queue for Pilates or at a coffee shop and someone looks over my shoulder and sees these tacky, porny images.

I thought ads were targeted but I have never visited the Ann Summers site in my life and never would - it's all nasty polyester, I feel itchy just seeing the adverts. I'm surprised ads featuring naked bums are ok on Mumsnet - it's really putting me off scrolling! Shouldn't they be blocked?

Im a woman, and i think they are sexy af i dont find them sexualising at all, I find them sensual

I think they are sexy too. Nothing wrong wearing sexy outfits to please a man.

TheLeadbetterLife · 28/07/2025 10:52

Please don't put them in Style and Beauty. They can go in AIBU and Sex, and amuse all the men and trolls.

Why wouldn't clothing ads go in S&B?

If people are really this upset about seeing lingerie adverts, they can always pay £2.99 per month on MN Premium.

What if Mumsnet listen to our complaints, cancel the contract with Ann Summers, and start bombarding us with even more embarrassing adverts for Cliff Richard-themed thrush cream, facial waxing strips, or Tory party memberships?

Be careful what you wish for.

YourFairCyanReader · 28/07/2025 11:03

Thank goodness, I thought it was just me. I bought underwear in store (not AS) the other day and immediately after was when the ads first showed. I was convinced my browser had heard me discussing buying underwear and put on a targeted ad as a result, which I wouldn't be able to get rid of.

If you click on the dots at the bottom left of the ad window, you can change your settings for personalised ads, and that got rid of it for me.

I agree it was very in your face, unwelcome and didn’t increase the liklihood of my buying their products whatsoever!

That nylon tat has nothing to do with style or beauty.

Morning, everyone. Thanks for your feedback on this. It is a legitimate ad, just to reassure you. We'll take a closer look at the content and double check that it's all suitable for the site. Of course, if you see the ads anywhere really inapporpriate please do let us know, though that shouldn't happen.

If you feel you're seeing a lot of them you could try clearing your cookies. That might help, too.

@HebeMumsnet The content is in the OP's first post. You can see it is filth and not suitable for this site. No offence but sincerely, how much more "double checking" do you need to do than the very first post in this thread? You have eyes, right?

IZK · 28/07/2025 11:08

Nor has a lot of the ads in that section.

But as ever, it's down to individual taste isn't it?

I've never worn Ann Summers as I really don't like their range, but ditto Boden, I really don't like theirs either.

To each their own.

Edited

Sorry but what a daft post.
Aside from there being no such thing as "Cliff Richard-themed thrush cream" ads for thrush cream would be a perfectly reasonable item to be targeted at this site. What's "embarrassing" about a product the vast majority of women will need at some point?

As for waxing- same point. If you think either of those products is embarrassing maybe you're not quite the cool girl you think you are.

MN doesn't carry party political add

Ann Summers nylon knickers are sex toys. It's nothing like a style of dress you don't like.

Screamingabdabz · 28/07/2025 11:14

I echo what others have said about it being quite a shock for those Benny Hill throwbacks to pop up on my phone. It’s cringey and embarrassing.

It's true, S&B is full of threads like "find me a wedding guest outfit that evokes all the sexiness of an end-of-the-pier peep show, and gives me thrush"

They're nylon knickers that some women obviously find sexy, given how successful Ann Summers are 🤷‍♂️

To be fair, many of the outfits evoke all the style and sexiness of a bag of cold chips, but again, each to their own 🤷‍♂️

I wear then daily, not a sex toy. Just clothing

😀

And which must, if we are to take Ann Summers ads as instructive, be accessorised with an expression that suggests a withheld fart?

Or, I suppose, the grating of a nylon gusset against sensitive areas?

LillyPJ · 28/07/2025 11:35

TheLeadbetterLife · 28/07/2025 10:49

Quite right. I love it when my partner is away and I can throw on my polyester French maid's outfit, crotchless knickers and stilettos. For me.

😆 I used to be a maid of sorts - a chambermaid. The sweaty pale blue nylon overall I had to wear wouldn't have raised anyone's blood pressure, let alone anything else!

Ficklebricks · 28/07/2025 11:37

Sorry if this has already been said but doesn't this breach the new online safety law?

Why aren't we being asked for age verification before accessing the site?

I'm not in favour of the law at all but I don't understand how Mumsnet displaying 18+ advertisements isn't a breach of new regulations when they fail to check the ages of people visiting.

How on earth can you get away with wearing nylon knickers daily? That sounds like the perfect recipe for thrush, which isn't sexy at all.

Me, too. A pale blue nylon dress with an apron. No matter how much it was washed, it never lost the smell of sweat and bleach.

I've only ever had thrush once, when I was pregnant 20 years ago.
No, im pretty healthy down there. As an aside, I do not, and never will, own a pair of cotton knickers , I couldn't for a second imagine being that kind of frumpy.
We are all different. I generally wear either a thong, or a Tanga

Buxusmortus · 28/07/2025 11:51

I would also like to complain about these ads. I certainly think it's offensive to have the sight of someone's bare arse unexpectedly pop up when you're reading a thread, especially a serious one.
I'm not offended by other ads with women wearing underwear but I've never before seen ones with actual buttocks on show. Those Ann summers ads wouldn't be permissable in a newspaper or on TV so I don't see why I should have to see them on here.

IDontHateRainbows · 28/07/2025 11:51

The prude levels on this thread!!!!!

Thanks. Full page bare bums definitely don't seem suitable for the site particularly on serious and upsetting threads, and I think you can appreciate it's a bit embarrassing if we're scrolling and someone looks at our screen to see something like the image I've attached to my first post. Please do update us on what you decide when you've had a closer look!
