I've added a picture, though I don't know if it will be allowed. Ann Summers adverts have been popping up mid thread for a few days, mostly pictures of women in thongs and stockings from behind though also a model with crosses over her nips in some sheer thing. It's so embarrassing if I'm browsing MN in the queue for Pilates or at a coffee shop and someone looks over my shoulder and sees these tacky, porny images.

I thought ads were targeted but I have never visited the Ann Summers site in my life and never would - it's all nasty polyester, I feel itchy just seeing the adverts. I'm surprised ads featuring naked bums are ok on Mumsnet - it's really putting me off scrolling! Shouldn't they be blocked?

You might be right there. I have shopped at Ann Summers but haven't had any adds on my thread.

I've never shopped at Ann Summers, never looked at their website, or similar. Goodness knows why I'm seeing them. I couldn't be less interested.

Why do women’s bodies offend you? Why are they ‘gross’?

I live in a house with a teen and a SEN pre teen both think privacy is a word in the dictionary not a way of life so my screen must be clean I do not wish ds2 to be asking people about the "naky pictures on mamas phone" because bet your boots that's the ONE dam thing he will remember to tell the school about after the 6 weeks holiday

Women's bodies do not offend me. Tacky lingerie does! And I wouldn't like a page full of men's arses either. I'm gender-neutral on this.

According to Google, Ann Summer's turnover last year was £93 million, so it seems not everyone is offended.

JustSayWhen · 27/07/2025 10:23

Glad it's not just me! I really don't want women trussed up in cheap, nasty, supposedly sexy (actually the opposite!) lingerie all over a chat forum. It's really off-putting.

Absolutely agree. Those photographs are demeaning to women and offensive. I'm surprised this site accepts such advertising. They are more or less porn.

NewAgeNewMe · 27/07/2025 22:07

I posted about this on another thread. It’s not appropriate when some topics are sensitive.

tillyandmilly · 27/07/2025 22:28

Agree its yuk ! I hate their advertising - shoved in our faces with their tacky underwear with bare butts staring at you in yer face!

Lanternsarenice · 27/07/2025 22:36

Agreed. I wasn't expecting to see someone's arse just then. It shocked me.

Timefortea4 · 27/07/2025 23:18

I don't want to see those images on my phone. They are even embedded in the feminist threads! Please Mumsnet don't put this stuff in our feeds. It's not appropriate.

TheodoraCrumpet · 27/07/2025 23:21

It all looks awfully uncomfortable and itchy. I would be so turned off by the time I got that little lot on. Put your arse away, love, I don't want to see it here.

So we are not allowed to dress sexy to turn men on. Or feel sexy for ourselves

One woman’s “sexy” is another’s cheap and tacky.

Trovindia · 27/07/2025 23:31

I agree OP, I don't want to see these adverts, they are tacky and cheap. It's so 1970s it's cringe.

Nevertrustacop · 27/07/2025 23:55

Yup I don't want these either. That said I'm glad it's not just me. I've has these all over some poor person's thread about dementia and they are offensive, especially when someone is looking for serious advice at one of the worst times of their lives.

This.

It’s bizarre. It’s not the 1800s.

It’s actually the only advert I’ve ever liked 😂

IMissSparkling · 27/07/2025 10:24

Good God. Won't someone think of the Pilates queue?! 😂

🤣🤣

Wonen's bodies aren't gross.
Trussing them up in cheap and nasty underwear so they can fulfil male fantasies is though.
Women bodies presented as pieces of meat is offensive.

Actually, perhaps an odd concept to some, dressing up in nice lingerie makes me feel really hot and sexy. It’s not just for the benefit of men you know! I just wish my DH would buy me some as a gift or encourage me to wear it, but HE doesn’t like it. I wear it purely for ME.

Twinkletoes127 · 28/07/2025 00:37

DoneitagainhaventI · 27/07/2025 10:30

I fail to see what is sexy about Anne Summers underwear.
All it does is make the wearer look ridiculous and desperate.

That is your opinion, I however love dressing up and wear similar things to this, and I do not look at all ridiculous

I think there’s sadly a lot of sexual repression out there. Sex is meant to be fun! I don’t understand all the disgust. This is a site for adults (originally targeting adult women) and as a lot of women on here have children, you can assume a lot of us are sexually active or were at one time. It’s just an advert for fun underwear. It’s not meant to be offensive.

DiscoBeat · 28/07/2025 00:52

I saw them and it didn't occur to me that it was anything more than a well known store advertising to a mainly female audience, it doesn't bother me, I just scrolled on and didn't think about it until your post. I don't think they're particularly daring outfits (maybe a bit silly with the maid one).

The maids outfit. Really? You don't think this is sexualising and gross?

I'm completely baffled why you can't see that this is wrong.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 28/07/2025 01:02

I never get them! Maybe the algorithm has worked out I currently have nonllve life

They adverts reminded me of what used to be on the cover of what became known as "top shelf magazines" and which have pretty much disappeared from newsagents. They were horrible when they were on open display.

If you don't understand "the disgust" there's probably little point in attempting to explain.

No one is objecting because they think sex is disgusting. I'm objecting because I don't want to open up threads MN [ the Archers' thread was being taken over by them] and see a naked arse or a woman trussed up in a "sexy maid's outfit" and stockings. If I wanted to see pornographic images [I don't btw] there are plenty of places I could go.

Oh and it's so boring that anyone who isn't cool with crap like Ann Summers must be sexually repressed. The stuff is just so naff.

It has nothing to do with sexual repression. If you're reading a thread about the suffering in Gaza, a full page picture of a woman's arses feels jarring and out of place. Being sexually active doesn't mean you lose all sense of when things are and aren't appropriate.

I was confused today when my entire screen was suddenly filled bums and stockings so this is reassuring!
It’s definitely a step too far with the pop up ads.
