Full page (gross) Ann Summers adverts

I've added a picture, though I don't know if it will be allowed. Ann Summers adverts have been popping up mid thread for a few days, mostly pictures of women in thongs and stockings from behind though also a model with crosses over her nips in some sheer thing. It's so embarrassing if I'm browsing MN in the queue for Pilates or at a coffee shop and someone looks over my shoulder and sees these tacky, porny images.

I thought ads were targeted but I have never visited the Ann Summers site in my life and never would - it's all nasty polyester, I feel itchy just seeing the adverts. I'm surprised ads featuring naked bums are ok on Mumsnet - it's really putting me off scrolling! Shouldn't they be blocked?

Even mums do buy sexy undies from time to time… it’s how we become mums. But maybe it’s not really mainstream enough for the site.

Yeah but Ann Summers undies aren't what I'd call sexy. They don't do it for me, personally. Finding their stuff tacky and low-rent doesn't make me a prude or anti-sex; I just don't think the French maid stuff is a turn-on. And if I DID find it sexy, I still don't want it when I'm out in public or, like I said, when reading something upsetting like the Gaza threads. The screenshot I took was from a thread about the mass-murderer in Idaho who stabbed four students to death in their beds. It was pretty jarring to see that advert in the middle of it.

Women's bodies do not offend me. Tacky lingerie does! And I wouldn't like a page full of men's arses either. I'm gender-neutral on this.

😂 But surely you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a man’s arse and a woman’s arse?

You sound confused. Buying sexy undies isn't how I became a mum.

BigFatLiar · 27/07/2025 10:42

Maybe 30 years ago I'd try some of their stuff, but now, meh, it'd be mutton dressed as lamb.

I can't say I object to it lots of different tastes on here for some it may be just what they're after.

HunnyPot · 27/07/2025 10:44

I remember the sex toy ads and the threads from the sex topic showing on the homepage. MN seems obsessed with pushing the boundaries when it comes to exposing visitors to sexual topics.

No one is preventing you from doing so. But if ‘feeling sexy for yourself’ involves nylon pants and an expression that suggest constipation, maybe think about why that might constitute ‘sexy for yourself’?

I don’t buy it personally but clearly there is a market for it

It is as if they are trying to attract members or something 🤔

I do remember that furore, and I do remember anyone who didn't love seeing all-caps thread titles about fleshlights and fisting coming up on Active getting asked why they were so frigid and hated sex so much. I don't want to start all that up again! Just would like not to see bums on a chat forum, that's all!

I’m in full agreement that the AS adverts shouldn’t be popping up and I do get what you mean about being stood in a queue with someone gawping over your shoulder thinking you’re googling gimp masks!

but, stop calling it tacky and tasteless and the belittling language surrounding AS because many women do enjoy buying and wearing it and funnily enough it’s not always because a bloke has asked for it. It’s like on the sex boards when posters are making out that women who enjoy different sexual things to them are ‘dirty’ and ‘gross’. They’re not.

but yeah, MN stop them popping up on threads about starving children in Gaza, it’s not necessary.

I had vaping ads and MN have sorted them for me

Fair enough, I take your point.

The real issue is that ads like that are coming up on all topics - if someone is seeking support for domestic violence or bereavement or talking about Gaza or all the other countless threads on weighty subjects, it feels crashingly inappropriate to get an ad like that in the middle. That's really what I should have said in my opening post, rather than being flippant about the nature of Ann Summers itself. You're right about that.

If I want to see these products I can Google them, I don’t need them popping up on my feed, ditto “adult products” stick to less controversial products please Mumsnet!

gmgnts · 27/07/2025 11:02

I now pay for ad free content from Mumsnet and it's made scrolling so much easier. It was the adverts for meat that really grossed me out, but I also got distracted by the ads for lovely shoes and dresses and kept clicking on them!

Catsandcannedbeans · 27/07/2025 11:02

Yhe DH saw that last week and asked “what are you looking at?” But I told him it’s for my other secret boyfriend not him. It could be a bit embarrassing I guess, but this site is free (unless you’re really posh and get premium) so they need to advertise. I’m sure if enough people contacted mumsnet HQ they would remove it, so if you really bothers you’d I’d do that.

Borka · 27/07/2025 10:19

I've been getting theses too. I don't think it's targeted advertising because the triangle symbol doesn't appear.

You might be right there. I have shopped at Ann Summers but haven't had any adds on my thread.

BlotAnExpert · 27/07/2025 11:11

Use Firefox with an ad blocker and see no ads at all 😊

See the immaculate conceptions board on NunsNet….

Joboomer · 27/07/2025 11:25

I'm with the OP on this. Bare arses on a page about serious relationships or caring for someone who is ill are out of place and should not be encouraged.
No one would object is they were restricted to the Sex Pages only.

I looked from Trending and didn't notice

Specsavers ads might be handy...

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 27/07/2025 21:45

Horrible ads, horrible product. They are currently infesting the Archers' thread. I never look at the sex forum. I don't want to see these ads.

Who are you to police posters' opinions. I think those ads and the products are tacky and tasteless. I never go near the Sex Forum. I've no interest in reading about other people's sex lives and I've no interest in seeing "sexy" [aka cheap nylon] underwear on a forum which has nothing to do with sex.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 27/07/2025 21:53

Cam1981 · 27/07/2025 10:28

So we are not allowed to dress sexy to turn men on. Or feel sexy for ourselves

Nobody is saying that. Do you what you want in private. These ads are appearing whether you want to see them or not.

TimeForABreak4 · 27/07/2025 21:58

Absolutely agree with you and it's been annoying me all day. I don't want to see women's arses when I'm scrolling the website and serious threads.
