I've added a picture, though I don't know if it will be allowed. Ann Summers adverts have been popping up mid thread for a few days, mostly pictures of women in thongs and stockings from behind though also a model with crosses over her nips in some sheer thing. It's so embarrassing if I'm browsing MN in the queue for Pilates or at a coffee shop and someone looks over my shoulder and sees these tacky, porny images.

I thought ads were targeted but I have never visited the Ann Summers site in my life and never would - it's all nasty polyester, I feel itchy just seeing the adverts. I'm surprised ads featuring naked bums are ok on Mumsnet - it's really putting me off scrolling! Shouldn't they be blocked?

Why do women’s bodies offend you? Why are they ‘gross’?

Oh bore off. You know full well that isn't what Op said.

Cam1981 · 27/07/2025 10:28

So we are not allowed to dress sexy to turn men on. Or feel sexy for ourselves

Of course you are. We just don't want to be bombarded with photos of you in those outfits.

Why do you think these pornographic ads should be on here, @StMarie4me ?

Totally agree with you OP.
I wondered why I was getting these adverts too.
I find them really distasteful and inappropriate.

I saw them too.
The appeared for me after I'd looked at the 'return the favour' thread, where the OP went on to reveal thatbshe was in a sub/dom relationship. 🫣

Jennyathemall · 28/07/2025 07:04

I’m sorry but if you are having this kind of strong reaction to lingerie adds then you’ve got bigger issues. I get them. I see them. I dont think they are “GROSS!!” or even tacky. Certainly not “porn”. You find it offensive because for whatever reason you find the idea of dressing up sexy for a man to be
offensive. Well guess what, the majority of us, those who have a healthy relationship with sex, don’t. You don’t get to police the world to make it conform to your twisted vision of how things should be.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/07/2025 07:07

Coffeeishot · 27/07/2025 10:24

Well it is sexy underwear the op is objecting to really not the women wearing it, i dont think we have to be bombarded with suspenders and peephole bras .

Edited

I agree.

These types of 'ads' appear in Playboy and in XXX pornographic sites as well as sex stores.

How are they not pornographic, @Jennyathemall ? We're talking about them being placed on a general website where teens and even young children may come across while their mum is browsing on here, not a site where you have to have age check to enter. A general site. I think I speak for the overwhelming majority of people, both female and male, when I say it is entirely inappropriate for these 'ads' to appear on this family site.

You can do whatever you want in the privacy of your own bedroom. Your post misses the point entirely.
Oh and others have said, bore off with the "sexually suppressed" crap.

I don't find sex offensive i don't even think Anne Summers is offensive, what i do find inappropiate is scrolling mumsnet and having half my phone screen obscured by an advert featuring maid in suspenders outfits or thongs and bra adds, .we are all "told" that we must be sex positive blah blah but surely there is a time and place, i get mumsnet is a business and needs advertisers and AS has a deal with mumsnet but my forgive me if i don't like "sexy nurses" to be included in my scrolling and reading.

LillyPJ · 28/07/2025 08:49

I ignore all adverts on here and elsewhere on the web. I don't even notice what they're for. The Ann Summers ones stood out because I don't generally have a bare arse pointing at me from my phone so I was a bit taken aback. I know it's not related to any scrolling I've done recently so I just wondered why they'd suddenly appeared or if everybody was getting the same ones.

Nevertrustacop · 28/07/2025 09:54

So have they gone yet Mumsnet? And if not could you at least just put them in sex or even 'style and beauty' threads?
They really shouldn't be appearing in 'Life limiting illnesses'

Nanny0gg · 28/07/2025 10:31

RedSeven · 28/07/2025 07:31

Yes I did.

MN doesn't allow tobacco advertising and they contained tobacco.

Twinkletoes127 · 28/07/2025 10:31

MyQuirkyTraybake · 28/07/2025 01:02

The maids outfit. Really? You don't think this is sexualising and gross?

I'm completely baffled why you can't see that this is wrong.

Im a woman, and i think they are sexy af i dont find them sexualising at all, I find them sensual

Why wouldn't you complain about vaping ads? Where I am it's illegal to buy vapes in shops.

What next, should mumsnet now advertise cigarettes?

You can always buy adult magazines or watch porn clips or stripper clips on the net if you're that desperate to see them.

HebeMumsnet · 28/07/2025 10:46

Morning, everyone. Thanks for your feedback on this. It is a legitimate ad, just to reassure you. We'll take a closer look at the content and double check that it's all suitable for the site. Of course, if you see the ads anywhere really inapporpriate please do let us know, though that shouldn't happen.

If you feel you're seeing a lot of them you could try clearing your cookies. That might help, too.

I could, but i dont need to. As Anne summers is a legitimate company with mainstream content

Quite right. I love it when my partner is away and I can throw on my polyester French maid's outfit, crotchless knickers and stilettos. For me.

There's nothing wrong with it, its a nice advert.

Please don't put them in Style and Beauty. They can go in AIBU and Sex, and amuse all the men and trolls.

Respectfully, @HebeMumsnet, I think most people recognise that it’s a ‘legitimate ad’. What they’re wondering is why you think that an ad featuring a sad nylon Sexy Maid outfit is an appropriate ad for a site that presumably centres women as they are experienced by themselves, rather than than ‘women as they might appear to a particularly hackneyed variety of male sexual imagination’.
