FYI: I've name changed for this to avoid a pile-on.

This post is about the overwhelming negativity and hostility with the FWR board that new posters and posters with a differing viewpoint face if they attempt to use the board.

There is a persistent group within the board that are, to put it simply, hateful towards others. Despite posting there on and off for more than 4 years, I have never felt welcome, despite not holding any particular extreme views or being abusive to others. Without exception, I am accused of being another poster, or a man, a TRA, or some kind of paid activist. This occurs again and again until I leave a thread in frustration.

I’ve seen this happen to many other new posters. Few return. Why would they? Such an acidic atmosphere doesn’t encourage healthy discussion. I’d just like to discuss women’s rights, but this board makes discussion impossible.

I’m not exactly sure what the answer is, except for @MNHQ to request the board to tone down the rhetoric a bit and back off on any new names they may see on the board. Let people engage with you rather than actively drive them away.

Mumsnet, am I allowed to post a selection of personally attacking posts from other users on the FWR boards? These would be direct quotes from them time and date stamped, eg: ones like:

@WinterDeWinter is either one of the most unselfaware posters I've ever come across, or a tedious, disingenuous, goady attention seeker.

(I am not WinterDeWinter) it was just one example I came across quickly in a search.)

Cant say I have heard of Radical Notion. They say: ^THE RADICAL NOTION was founded in 2020 to create a space for the resurgent wave of feminist think...

Simply not true - or if you think it is why don't you paste some quotes from FWR to demonstrate this? After all, content like this is not abusive, so it will not be deleted, therefore you will be able to find it and back up what you are saying. We can wait.

I can collate some of the abuse I have experienced if that would help, although it will be on the tamer side as Mumsnet has deleted a lot of the more extreme abuse. I might need Mumsnet permission because obviously that will 'name names' which they don't see to want us to do here.

Here’s one from this thread -

‘Nope. I just don't hate trans people because you're telling me to.’

BobbyPeruLikeTheCountry · 27/01/2025 15:34

I think the main problem with FWR is that one side has facts and logic, and the other doesn't. The side that doesn't, does not like having that pointed out to them time and time again, nor do they give up using the same tired arguments time and tie again. Som the wheel keeps turning, and accusing posters of being mean is all they have left.

JoyousGreyOrca · 27/01/2025 15:34

PeopleLikeColdplay · 27/01/2025 15:29

I've personally seen some vile comments directed at people who dare not to toe the party line. And I don't mean the typical boisterous behaviour you get on AIBU. I mean really unpleasant stuff.

There's a reputation for a good reason and there's very good reason for it to be now sequested. I remember the days when this was all over the boards. It was wretched.

I can see this thread is full of the same self congratulatory posters as ever. If there was a high five react, it would be getting hammered right now. There's no question that anyone will actually examine their behaviour.

I 100% agree

Absolutely this. And then it’s wash rinse repeat.

Are you planning to examine yours?

I wouldn't dream of writing anything like the comments I've read. They can, and do, go too far, too often. It's indefensible.

To actually demonstrate what you are trying to say , we would need to see what that poster actually posted to receive that reply !

Because at the moment it doesn't seem to be a particularly unpleasant post .

How interesting you posted an example about a poster that was given numerous suspensions for their behaviour on threads and may have been banned, because of their behaviour.

jeffgoldblum · 27/01/2025 15:39

Context is key. What did WinterDeWinter say? Maybe they were posting in bad faith and being tedious and disingenuous and were rightly called out?

Indefensible if you can’t even post them as evidence.

Well you didn't quote them in your own original post, but sure, why don't quote the post you are replying to, I am assuming you feel it warranted your deeply personal attack?

And of course people can read the entire thread to establish the whole context, the link in my post leads to it.

Post the vile, unpleasant stuff you’ve seen then.

I don’t think it’s a big ask to back up accusatory statements such as this set out to negatively tar a lot of posters.

Gosh, isn't it funny how people remember things differently.

Ain't it just. And there was me thinking it was just us grumpy bigots who didn't want to be corralled out of sight. Although I'm quite pleased that it hasn't worked out as the banishers intended.

She called us "Farage Feminists" for precisely nothing, as you'll find out if you read the thread. Hope that helps.

We had a group of people agitate hard for Chat to be created, crow about it being created, tell us to fuck off off of it, report posts on FWR to be moved onto Chat because Chat was too quiet, and then have spent the past four years complaining that we don't post on it.

Now people are complaining that they don't like what people post on the board they've had hidden for years?

Cutted. Up. Pear.

I distinctly remember a poster (who i have never seen before or since) insist that the Feminist Chat be created as 'we can't create the threads we want to discuss on FWR', force through the board split by an apparent email onslaught to MNHQ and then directly tell you (Arabella) and indirectly anyone with GC views to 'fuck off back to your own board'. I saw that and thought OK and have avoided Chat ever since. And whenever I click a thread on Feminist Chat by accident, which has somehow made it onto Active, I wonder why all the replies are fucking batshit and then realise why.

And then we get footstamping complaints that the Feminist chat board is too quiet!

Cutted.up.pear indeed.

The board was not created only for those who agree with the main people posting on the board. It was always for everyone. But people posting act as if they control the board. And they kind of do as they are consistently rude and bullying to anyone who disagrees with them.

UrsulasHerbBag · 27/01/2025 15:54

Be more feminine. Exam your behaviour. Get off the board that we gave you because you aren’t nice enough. also do not respond when you are called a vile unashamed racist(from the thread posted earlier directed at Erish hence her response was not out of nowhere)… because you aren’t the kind of woman we want to hear from. OK.

I honestly thought this would be an interesting discussion. I even thought of some topics to start in chat to try to get us all talking… then I checked chat and saw the Bindel thread.
