FWR

FYI: I've name changed for this to avoid a pile-on.

This post is about the overwhelming negativity and hostility with the FWR board that new posters and posters with a differing viewpoint face if they attempt to use the board.

There is a persistent group within the board that are, to put it simply, hateful towards others. Despite posting there on and off for more than 4 years, I have never felt welcome, despite not holding any particular extreme views or being abusive to others. Without exception, I am accused of being another poster, or a man, a TRA, or some kind of paid activist. This occurs again and again until I leave a thread in frustration.

I’ve seen this happen to many other new posters. Few return. Why would they? Such an acidic atmosphere doesn’t encourage healthy discussion. I’d just like to discuss women’s rights, but this board makes discussion impossible.

I’m not exactly sure what the answer is, except for @MNHQ to request the board to tone down the rhetoric a bit and back off on any new names they may see on the board. Let people engage with you rather than actively drive them away.

This is just another 'be nice' instruction to women who aren't performing correctly isn't it.

jeffgoldblum · 27/01/2025 15:55

@suggestionsplease1 , because it goes directly against talk guidelines to do so !!! , I'm not sure how you got away with it but no doubt @Ereshkigalangcleg would probably end up deleted!

Yes. Don't bully women who do not fully agree with everything you say.

Which talk guideline does posting direct quotes from boards go against?

Yep. With the posters hectoring about 'being nice' being anything but, and themselves behaving in the same way they say they don't like, accusing people of statements they haven't made, while refusing to back up their points with data or evidence and raging at anyone who asks for data or evidence.

Just a standard day.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2025 15:57

That's why I'm not going to @jeffgoldblum

Anyone else is free to take a look and see what they think of that thread. I'm not rising to it.

I wouldn't dream of writing anything like the comments I've read. They can, and do, go too far, too often. It's indefensible.

Dude - you told me that I was telling you to hate trans people like I did, and I forget what else (because I'm resilient and don't dwell on stuff randos on the internet call me) - you said I was trying to radicalise you against trans people FFS, when I gave a number of real-life examples of why mixed sex toilets and changing rooms are dangerous for women.

Hyperbolic abuse in response to facts.

I suspect that it is classed as troll hunting.

MyNewLife2025 · 27/01/2025 15:59

There is about 1 mullions users coming on MN everyday.
Im not sure that posters going on about the history on the feminist chat etc… have a clue that most people who come onto the feminist board as a whole both have no idea about the history nor do they care tbh.

They just see what people and judge from that.

jeffgoldblum · 27/01/2025 15:59

Yes don't @Ereshkigalangcleg , I'm going to leave it now as I have my own little friend .

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2025 16:02

Right back atcha.

JoyousGreyOrca · 27/01/2025 16:03

I was told I must be a man or a transactivist or trans because I confirmed that butch lesbians do indeed get challenged when using women's public toilets. I was told that never happens (probably by straight women) and told I was making it up.
Just one example. I gave up.

Why would that be troll hunting? That is simply repeating exactly what a poster has already said themselves.

jeffgoldblum · 27/01/2025 16:05

You are not supposed to tag or reproduce a post or poster from another thread .

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2025 16:05

Mumsnet has specifically posted on the thread to tell posters that name checking specific posters is frowned on. The OP was deleted for doing it.

....you're criticising posters 'going on about the history on the Feminist chat' on a thread which referenced that specific chat board fairly early on in the thread and explains that there is a 'safe space' provided for those who 'don't agree with the prevailing opinion' which is essentially the entire point of the OP?

You might have a point about some not caring but your point seems a little silly on this specific thread.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 27/01/2025 16:13

I had an example ready from another thread (that @suggestionsplease1 had various posts deleted as they went against the guidelines funnily enough) that one poster who knew better than Sir Robert Winston, and was trying to insist sex isn't immutable and binary but had their own weird take on what sex is.

When corrected many times, this poster then declared them all as saying ”NO ITS NOT! THATS NOT TRUE! YOU HATE WOMEN! WE SEE YOU!”

Nope, no one said that, just correcting factually incorrect statements 🙄.

I won't screenshot as I now know it’s against guidelines.

Well yes... An Admin has said don't do it, and the only post that's been deleted was made by the OP doing it, and yet they still think it's a good idea to do.

A smidgeon of common sense is required when posting, even if you feel you are in the right.

That puts us in a really tricky predicament though doesn't?

Because there is abundant evidence of personally attacking and abusive posts by FWR posters - and yet you're now saying we're supposedly not allowed to post the direct quotes which are the evidence for this?

suggestionsplease1 · 27/01/2025 16:15

How are we otherwise meant to prove what we're saying, and back ourselves up when we want to show the hostility on FWR?

That's happened to me and I'm neither butch nor lesbian. I've also been sirred in other places, including one occasion when I was physically assaulted because my assailant thought I was a male goth.

As soon as I reply, the matter is resolved because my voice proves my sex. I also don't regard it as a personal slight.

Nonetheless, it does happen and anyone who denies it is ignoring the experiences of those who have experienced it.

Personal attacks are against the guidelines. Either report them or accept your version of personal attacks is different to the Admins and other people.

no ones stopping you from posting it. MN may step in and delete it but you’re perfectly free to take the risk and let everyone see the hate before it gets zapped.

just make sure you post the context too.

It also means that we can't link to the evidence of DARVO and word-twisting from TRAs.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2025 16:18

@suggestionsplease1

Take your predicament up with MNHQ who have already said this thread shouldn't be used for targeting individual posters 🤷‍♀️ not sure why you feel this doesn't apply to you but hey ho, I'm not engaging.
