Why are you allowing people to troll the Sex Board?

HornyBee · 18/02/2023 12:36

If it was any other board you wouldn't allow it.
If I went on another board and started posting recipes and taking the piss out of the posters I'd quickly be banned.
It is flooded with people trolling it.
Every single thread.
It's really horrible.
Take it off active or just shut the whole board down.
It's disgusting.

its not just pissing off existing users that’s an issue. indeed, they are probably most likely to just hide the bloody topic.

But MN needs to generate new users. And I would suspect that many people who would become MNers are likely to be put off by seeing active convos full of sex threads. People who are likely to find MN through search engines.

What you end up with is an ever greater proportion of users who want sex chat, and because there is more of that, more of those kinds of users find MN.

As a brand decision, it’s weird.

BIWI · 18/02/2023 17:01

May as well rebrand Mumsnet as Sexnet!

Keep it out of Active and that would be fine. (Although I think the sex chat topic is awful and really not something I expected to see on Mumsnet).

ArcticSkewer · 18/02/2023 17:01

Surplus2requirements · 18/02/2023 16:21

For those using the app you can't presently hide topics from there but if you open the browser on the device your using and log in to MN.

Click on the blue head > settings > more settings > talk settings.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to hide topics.

Chosen topics will now be hidden when you return to the app.

I know you shouldn't have to and MNHQ have messed up badly but that's how to do it.

too techy for this crowd

Yes please take it off Active again. I can't work out how to hide it and I really don't want to know about this stuff.

Oh yes please. I would never recommend MN to anyone now, I wouldn’t want to associate myself with r…..ing and vibration 🙄 ads

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 18/02/2023 14:06

Here's a crazy, batshit idea, just a random shot in the dark, but here's an idea...... For you - AND the others who cannot hide the sex topic on their phone.......

LOG ON TO MUMSNET ON AN ACTUAL COMPUTER/PC/LAPTOP, AND HIDE THE SEX TOPIC.

You're welcome......... Smile

@WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps shall I pm you my address so that you can buy a laptop/tablet/computer for me please and thank you?

Sux2buthen · 18/02/2023 17:28

@ShowOfHands do you have a phone with a browser? Or internet access? Presumably yes as you are on it now.
You can use that

Show what are you using now? I just access the site on my phone but never the app as I can’t stand it.

We aren't the customers of Mumsnet.

Erm... no. That would be the advertisers. We are the product.

LavenderSloe · 18/02/2023 18:24

Just here to support @PinotPony @HornyBee and some of the others who have already made very valid, reasonable points.

Nobody is saying this should be in Active. We all know sex should be consensual - and that includes the things you're forced to see.

But I'm frankly pretty gutted at the vitriol and treatment shown on these boards, and the fact that @MumsnetHQ has allowed it to happen.

So much prejudice, just assuming that it's all men and that everyone there is a perv or paedo. So many assumptions that it's all just w*nk fodder. Yet nobody- except the reverently silent Mumsnet - has any actual data. What about all the genuine women users on there that you're all attacking and shaming, purely as a result of Mumsnet's spectacular balls up?

As plenty of posters have already said, even the ones that have only been very infrequent visitors to the board...for the most part they haven't seen weird, offensive posts. Just genuine people in genuine relationships of whatever description, seeking advice and perspectives. Many of whom are also parents and that angle is a very different spin as it interrelates with other areas of the site e.g. loads of posts about libido since having children.

Please just everyone stop attacking each other and Mumsnet - you owe us all on both sides a shed load of apologies if you expect anyone to stick around after this.

Same here.

RaininSummer · 18/02/2023 18:58

The only sensible reason for not having it in active is so that kids and colleagues don't see the rather racy thread titles. I think some posters are being extremely rude by trolling the posts right now. I find the sex topic quite interesting even though I don't find actual sex remotely interesting these days.

JFC @ArcticSkewer as you're so superior, why not explain specifically how that might be achieved, instead of being so sarky? It's not always obvious to people how to do things.

I opened Mumsnet in safari using the following address then went into settings to hide it.

www.mumsnet.com

Theos · 18/02/2023 19:40

I find so much of Mn not boring SO I HIDE IT, and if you find a sex topic distasteful, you really need to have a hard long look at yourself and your prudish attitudes!

Babies come from sex

ageist and sexist.

Babies come from sex

Bloody hell! I did wonder!

Don't be so patronising. If you've bothered to read any of the rest of this - and other - threads you'll know why people are objecting to it.

BIWI · 18/02/2023 19:48

And actually @Theos - if you have a look at the sex chat thread - you'll see that an awful lot of the posters there are middle aged men. So not sexist or ageist at all.

ShowOfHands · 18/02/2023 19:51

ArcticSkewer · 18/02/2023 19:10

I don't use the app. I was being facetious. Not everybody has a computer (I don't, only a phone) and if you're an app user, you may have already had the indignity of flesh lights, rimming and WankingMartin before breakfast. Insert something about horses and stable doors here. Mumsnet was conceived to make parents' lives easier. Right now, it isn't. The solution lies with MNHQ.

GrisleyR · 18/02/2023 19:52

I don't give a shit what happens on sex topic.
Just take it off active PLEASE.

For those saying block the topic, I have tried. But it keeps coming back.

Keep it by all means, but stop it from popping up in active or trending. Please.

Theos · 18/02/2023 20:01

And what is wrong with middle-age men?

Theos · 18/02/2023 20:01

Or their age being relevant?
