Why are you allowing people to troll the Sex Board?

HornyBee · 18/02/2023 12:36

If it was any other board you wouldn't allow it.
If I went on another board and started posting recipes and taking the piss out of the posters I'd quickly be banned.
It is flooded with people trolling it.
Every single thread.
It's really horrible.
Take it off active or just shut the whole board down.
It's disgusting.

You're right, it is disgusting.

It's disgusting that I now have to see titles about rimming and flesh lights and anal whilst browsing MN at the breakfast table with my 12 year old nearby.

It's disgusting that MNHQ have a product to sell and have unilaterally decided that we should all see your disgusting topics and conversation titles.

No thanks.

And if you think for a minute that the sex board isn't already heaving with trolls and perverts, you're sadly mistaken.

So how do you square a parenting site that also includes information on the mechanics of becoming a parent?

HornyBee · 19/02/2023 22:26

gamerchick · 19/02/2023 22:20

The whole tone on that board is off now tbh. There's a woman on obviously distressed by her blokes porn usage and she's got grow up and men are visual creatures. It's weird.

At least now some sensible replies can come along if it's in active. Rather than just tell someone to grow up for not wanting porn in her house.

I actually think it's the other way round. I don't think the 'grow up' comments would have been said before. I think those comments have come from it being on active.
It really was a nice supportive place before. Maybe look at threads going back to a few months ago.

I don't mind mechanics of sex posts. I don't even mind the anal and rimming ones - although they're not for me.

I do mind the sleazy hook up thread.

And I do mind having them in active. And because I use the app I can't hide them.

And so do I.
I feel that it is out of place on MN.

No thanks. I did, and they are as grim as the current ones.

Well obviously I didn't mean YOU did I! You can't be trusted to look at threads in the sex topic without trolling them with your hilarious little comments.

If it helps I might be able to explain how you can hide the sex topic (no promises)

I appreciate you shouldn't have to.

(Just to be clear the guide came from a woman and can't be added to my ever increasing mansplaining account)

radiatorflush · 20/02/2023 01:00

@Surplus2requirements I know you can hide it from the web-based site. However, that site crashes on my elderly phone so all I can use is the app

My laptop is a work one and I'm not comfortable with signing in to mumsnet on it.

The website is very clunky on my phone as well so I wondered about installing the app. Missing features put me off.

Sorry I can't help

AlwaysLatte · 20/02/2023 02:29

I noticed that this week. I didn't even know there was a Sex topic. There's been some fairly risqué stuff posted which just comes up unsolicited now which I'm fine about even if some of it is not my cup of tea but it would be better to put it where people who are interested have to go and look.

I have been on holiday for a few weeks so did not bother checking Mumsnet till I got back but I was a bit surprised to see 'HELP WITH ANAL' screaming at me in caps from the front page. I don't mind a sex sub section but I agree that having it in the active section is not right. I am far from prude but I agree with others that it changes the overall tone of the site somewhat.

IglesiasPiggl · 20/02/2023 11:28

There is an interesting thread over in Style and Beauty discussing a similar issue re appearing in Active and attracting unhelpful posters who derail the thread. I wonder if it's time to make for more pleasant and informed discussions by only having general topics in Active like Chat and AIBU. The rest, people have to actually go to the boards to find.

everywhichway · 20/02/2023 12:12

While we're waiting to hear from MNHQ about how they intend to resolve things around the Sex Topic and the Active threads list (hopefully to remove the former from the latter!), I've been doing a bit of delving into the circumstances behind the taking down of the original sexchat thread. It's still a bit of mystery, but this is the closest that I think we came to finding out. Becky was responding to one of several questions from users of that thread about why it had suddenly disappeared.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 22/10/2022 10:15

Hi all - not sure which thread it was, exactly - if you've got any more info we're happy to take a look. We were made aware of disagreements happening on another platform that had made their way here and derailed a thread.

FWIW, we've no problem with a sex chat thread among consenting adults!

It was shortly after this that the current sexchat thread commenced.

gamerchick · 20/02/2023 12:26

We've already been told. Hide the topic if you don't want to see it. I'm not sure what else anybody is expecting.

Surplus2requirements · 20/02/2023 12:38

@everywhichway that makes sense.

I missed it in blissful ignorance.

I've experienced similar where a small group that have fallen out elsewhhave and have followed each other onto a forum I mod.

You get a full blown argument appear from nowhere with no sense of how it started and then the regulars pile in 😬

Sometimes it's just easier to get the big hammer out

That's interesting, thanks.

I had a look and I think you're right, it seems people are replying without realising which section they're in.
While it's not trolling it must seem very abrupt and rude for a regular of fashion and beauty to be told 'why are you asking? Just wear what you like!'

I think similar happened on the sex topic last night where a wife asked for advice about toys and she explained they had been tip-toeing around the subject for a while.

The first reply of 'why are you asking on the Internet?' must have been a surprise.

To be fair the respondee did recover in spectacular fashion 😊

I CAN'T hide the topic.
I'm not sure what you're expecting me to do?

I have absolutely no problem with this being here, but why does it have to come in Active???
Anyone who wants to find it can.

What next? OTBT popping up?

KindlyKanga · 20/02/2023 13:06

I managed to hide it
