Why are you allowing people to troll the Sex Board?

HornyBee · 18/02/2023 12:36

If it was any other board you wouldn't allow it.
If I went on another board and started posting recipes and taking the piss out of the posters I'd quickly be banned.
It is flooded with people trolling it.
Every single thread.
It's really horrible.
Take it off active or just shut the whole board down.
It's disgusting.

I managed to hide it

Are you on the app? Can you tell me how please? I have tried everything, but nothing has worked.
I'm obviously thick.

I CAN'T hide the topic.
I'm not sure what you're expecting me to do?

I have absolutely no problem with this being here, but why does it have to come in Active???
Anyone who wants to find it can.

What next? OTBT popping up?

I know, I'm just pointing out that the bosses have already told us the score. I doubt anything else is going to happen.

I'm fairly sure you have to make the small effort of going onto the website to hide a topic as it can't be done in the app.

Ah no I'm not on the app. Sorry I can't help. I don't think you are being thick. I can't even remember how I did it - there was instructions somewhere.

you can sort of do it in the iPhone app (I don't know about android)click the big "talk" at the top, followed by "my Mumsnet" then "open additional Mumsnet settings" at the bottom. This takes you to the website where you choose "talk settings" and then scroll to the bottom for "manage hidden threads and topics"

Sarcasm aside, thank you - I am thick, it never occurred to me to find a way to log onto the website rather than app.
Will try that now.
Also, saw your later message - in my settings it says that the sex topic is hidden. But it still shows up on my active list 😒

I'll have a go on the website. Thank you.

@SoupDragon the website crashes on my phone. I've adjusted to the shortest No of posts per page but it still does it 🤷🏼‍♀️

GrisleyR · 20/02/2023 14:16

I give up.

If MN wanted an illustration of why ‘just hide the topic’ is a terrible basis for UX, this thread provides a pretty good one.

Going to talk settings via the app bypasses anything with posts on. It simply goes straight to the settings without anything else (the more data heavy stuff?) from talk coming up

I don't mind mechanics of sex posts. I don't even mind the anal and rimming ones - although they're not for me.

I do mind the sleazy hook up thread.

And I do mind having them in active. And because I use the app I can't hide them.

Exactly this. If people want the sex thread they know where to find it. And as I said on a previous thread about this issue, Mumsnet is not a hook up/dating site. But it won't be long before that thread is rolled out on here, along with the option to add locations, photos and swipe right....for a small (premium) fee....the sex chat thread is just HQ dipping the toe in so to speak....

SybilWrites · 21/02/2023 19:44

I also don't mind the sex threads - I've even posted on occasion. But like others I dislike the sleazy hook up thread, and I dislike that there's a load of pervy random men attracted to the site by that topic who don't post on anything else. It seems that dms from men are common on that topic and I think that is just yuck.

And yes no reason for it to be on Active Conversations particularly. And it seems the people who frequent the sex topic also don't want it on Active - so there's no need for it to be (except possibly that Mumsnet has entered into a commercial relationship with a vibrator maker who may have expectations about it being in Active conversations).
