Why are you allowing people to troll the Sex Board?

HornyBee · 18/02/2023 12:36

If it was any other board you wouldn't allow it.
If I went on another board and started posting recipes and taking the piss out of the posters I'd quickly be banned.
It is flooded with people trolling it.
Every single thread.
It's really horrible.
Take it off active or just shut the whole board down.
It's disgusting.

This reply has been deleted

This post contains troll hunting which we don't allow so it's been removed.

See above-
Obviously there are trolls on there just like the rest of the site.

Totally agree.
Some posters are incredibly childish.
And also appear to have zero IT ability so can't hide threads or topics.

Feel free to share the details of how to hide the topic on the app. Multiple posters have asked for this and HQ are unable to help.

Its a fundamental principle of consent that the "recipient" should opt in, not have to opt out and especially not have to opt out without any warning. I'd expect the managers of a women centred forum to be rather more clear on consent than they appear to be.

It is mostly men and always has been.

Absolutely tragic that a bunch of men aren't able to walk over the mumsnet forum as much as usual this weekend, my heart really bleeds for the "usual posters".

I’m not sure it’s walking that those saddos and creeps are doing.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/02/2023 13:35

Actually, as an occasional visitor there, I've seen some very respectful (and enlightening!!) conversations happening between men and women.
And 'dubious' posts were ignored/swiftly reported.

Always good to get different perspectives.

Maybe the few threads I dipped into were the tamer end, so I'm not familiar with an overall tone being complained about?

Why can't anyone bothered by having it show in Active simply hide the board?
Problem solved.

But, yes, I imagine the more visibility it's given, sheer upswing in traffic will no doubt equal more mischief-makers (plus it's been half term, so bored teens?
Though isn't there still a registered user for minimum week requirement before posting?)

Seemed to do ok when quietly on Body and Soul.

BentleyRhythmAce · 18/02/2023 13:36

If there was a way of hiding it in the app (without having to log in on a PC) I would, but it seems there isn't.

Hotvimto3 · 18/02/2023 13:37

Im absolutely no prude but when its come up on active i was disgusted. Men posting for sex... literally every female space can be used by men to get there end away can it? is this what mumsnet had become... there are more appropriate sites for this.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/02/2023 13:37

Ah, just read posts saying no hiding facility on the App. That's plain daft.

HornyBee · 18/02/2023 13:37

This isn't about whether posters on the sex board are genuine or perverts or men pretending to be women.
Not everyone on there is fake.
There are real genuine people on there too.
The issue is the rest of mumsnet who don't agree with the topic being allowed to come over to the board and troll it with hateful, immature comments. And nothing is being done about it.

Fair point.

MarshaBradyo · 18/02/2023 13:41

People need to hide the topic if they don’t want it in active conversations

I think the whole point is that it’s not possible to hide it on the app, at least for some posters.

Plus the gross promo thread from MNHQ titled 'what do you like to see on kids TV?' In the sex topic! I mean fgs!

Yes, that's completely inappropriate and nasty.

I don’t use the app at all but if I felt annoyed enough to post silly messages tbh I’d log in elsewhere and hide it instead

You're right, it is disgusting.

It's disgusting that I now have to see titles about rimming and flesh lights and anal whilst browsing MN at the breakfast table with my 12 year old nearby.

It's disgusting that MNHQ have a product to sell and have unilaterally decided that we should all see your disgusting topics and conversation titles.

No thanks.

And if you think for a minute that the sex board isn't already heaving with trolls and perverts, you're sadly mistaken.

Absolutely this.

It was fine where it was with 90 days wait to join and you could discuss anything you wished

But mumsnet want to make money so reduce it to 7 days and put in active to promote their products

And then give some pathetic excuse of not wanting to exclude threads which is bollocks

And doing it at half term too, @MNHQ at its worst

hryllilegur · 18/02/2023 13:47

Maybe MN could listen to user feedback that many people do not want to have to figure out how to hide a sex topic.

And user feedback about the effects that higher profile content of this type has on the rest of MN.

Personally, I have some questions about why anyone would choose Mumsnet as the place to go for that kind of board, and pick a username including the word ‘horny’. I mean… that’ll simply be met with nonsense about prudishness or shaming or whatever. But the internet is awash with porn and associated stuff, so it’s interesting that people would seek to make sure it’s front and centre on MN. Maybe the juxtaposition in active convos next to questions about infant care or schooling is part of the appeal for some people.

I don’t actually care about the ‘but women like sex too’ arguments. I would hypothesise that most MN users are put off by sex topic stuff.

That’s a pretty dreadful UX pain point.

The kind of thing that properly alienated users really.

Yeah that's fucking grim. There are some juxtapositions now that I reckon some of the big advertisers (the ones not flogging shrek's ears) might not be too thrilled about.

Plus a lot of the sex promos should say 'ad' on them and don't, so that's misleading.

I think one reason they are doing this is because MNHQ are not listening to the many posters asking for it to be removed from active.

Yet mumsnet are asking opinions on the last hour, unanswered questions links, maybe if they had asked about the sex topic they would have avoided this.

But would that suit their purpose 🤔

Ah, just read posts saying no hiding facility on the App. That's plain daft.

Sorry, to clarify: I meant that the App apparently having no way to hide the board is daft, NOT the posters saying that.
(I use MN via desktop, so had no idea that was the case).

AutumnCrow · 18/02/2023 13:51

The app has been and is heavily promoted by MNHQ.

Posters are still trying to find out how to hide the Sex Topic on the app, as far as I'm aware. MNHQ silent.

LynneBenfield · 18/02/2023 13:52

I thought I’d bloody blocked this frigging topic. FGS

AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/02/2023 13:54

I actually feel sick even considering that. Grim.

Sadlifter · 18/02/2023 13:55

I didn't even know there was a sex board! I use the web version.

I would say that they are making an obvious protest to MNHQ there.

It’s not like they started with that kind of tactic. There have been several threads in site stuff and I’m sure lots of reporting to complain going on.

This sort of thing tends to be an indication that an organisation is not listening to its users.
