Hi,

The Nicola Bulley thread must have been hidden overnight by nightwatch. I wasn't on it at the time to see what happened.
Are we allowed the post back or are we not allowed to discuss it now?

These threads are just shite for gossips, people getting their rocks off at others misery, whatever excuses you can muster are pathetic, shame on you all.

You think people are getting sexually aroused by these threads? Really? If that's where your mind goes I think it says more about you than people commenting on the threads.

Shame on us for discussing a news story that is being widely discussed, that the family themselves have said they want to remain in the public eye?

Shame on you for thinking you have the right to vilify people because they're talking about something you deem unworthy of discussion.

But what else is anyone going to say that hasn't already been said 6000 times before?

who knows, we'll never know if people get the threads deleted.

People that 'don't approve' can act their age & scroll on instead of acting like 10 year olds with no self regulation.

I would say the dysregulated are those casting potentially defamatory aspersions on the husband and/or those wringing their hands at his unimaginable grief - meanwhile caring not a whitt that over 20,000 people have been killed in recent earthquakes and some, including infants, are still buried alive over 100 hours later.

I am only aware of these threads in that I thought initially they must have some news I'd not seen, then when it appeared in trending, checked in to was it (to my surprise) thread 5 or 6, again thinking well, news must have broken re this missing woman. No, see above.

PAFMO · 11/02/2023 22:59

Even Reddit is moderating the salivating threads full of speculation and tricoteuses. Reddit.

MN were very quick always to nip speculation in the bud about Madeleine McCann but it seems like NB (and her family) is fair game for the sickos.

I've been here 20 years and these threads are repulsive. Dressing their excitement up as concern is a thin veneer and HQ really need to do something about them. They are unhinged.

Behave.

milkyaqua · 11/02/2023 23:03

No, but I can direct you to Websleuths, where similarly unhinged obsessive women of not paricularly high intellect and no police or forensic experience also believe they know more than the professionals actually involved with a case, and/or have a sick obsession with how sad it is, which they state rather piously but with gruesome relish over and over, on countless linked threads.

PAFMO · 11/02/2023 23:06

Don't the police look at people with unhealthy obsessions with ongoing cases to see if...well, y'know.
Night all. Don't have nightmares.

Meltedcheeses · 11/02/2023 23:10

These threads and @ofwarren etc have really disturbed me. It is very dark and I fear the real reason they'd rather chat here than Facebook is the anonymity...the lack of empathy and understanding does chill me. I wish MN would remove these threads....it breeds sickness in those who obviously have mental health issues already.

Remind us who the nasty people are again?

Agreed. It's like they're playing Cluedo in real time. They don't even see what their threads and posts look like to outsiders.
@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet seriously, have a good read of the threads. It's like being plunged into a Murder Mystery Weekend jolly.
Very disturbing.

you have NO idea what peoples thoughts are on that, why would you even say that?

Disturbed because people are discussing a current news story? It breeds sickness?! Jesus Christ. I'm surprised you can cope at all with modern life

@ofwarren all that poster done was make it clear they haven't got ASD and if they at the very least have 3 children with ASD I feel very sorry for them. The thread has been closed because of their disgusting comments not because of our discussion.

I am truly baffled what the problem is with discussing it. Please don't take any notice of what they've said.

ofwarren · 12/02/2023 19:23

@imanimumsnet
There are 3 or so posters who are just determined to attack threads for no reason. They know if they report and report that you will pull threads. How is that fair?
They have posted ableist comments about me and another poster on there, yet its the thread that's pulled, not the posters who are purposely causing problems.

We are not discussing anything that isn't in the news, we are not discussing a criminal case. Whenever anyone comes on and says something outlandish, they are pulled up and sometimes reported depending on what they say.

Why are WE penalised and told we cannot talk because a few posters don't like the topic?

OP posts:
Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 19:24

I have asked out right why it's wrong. No one has come up with an explanation for why they wouldn't want it discussed

It's so backwards that whole threads get pulled because some posters are abusive. Why can't the posters be dealt with and our thread stand?

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 12/02/2023 19:28

@MNHQ I hope you will do something about these two posters. Attacking a mother of autistic children is absolutely disgusting behaviour.

Exactly. It's absolutely ridiculous. Every main case about anything and everything is discussed. I've never seen so much backlash about discussing a missing person?

If you're including me as one of them, I think that's unfair. I didn't post anything ableist or any personal attack on anyone.

I did say that I find the nature and tone and VOLUME of the discussion unsettling - which I do - but I accept I should have probably just left it alone.

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 19:32

What will these people do when they realise there's a whole section on Netflix about true crime documentaries. Unsolved mysteries that actually open up cases to be speculated about 😮

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 19:32

@Jourdain11 you did call us all weirdos no?
