Hi,

The Nicola Bulley thread must have been hidden overnight by nightwatch. I wasn't on it at the time to see what happened.
Are we allowed the post back or are we not allowed to discuss it now?

I hope it comes back, so many people are concerned, we were talking about it at work yesterday and it’s just touched so many people because I think she’s so relatable.

PurpleButterflyWings · 11/02/2023 10:37

It was 'hidden' (or deleted) because there were some dreadful accusations aimed at Nicola's husband on there from some armchair detectives with naff-all qualifications, who think they know everything about what happened.

People who think they are experts and they know more than the police, more than the experts, and more than the people involved in her life. Some of the accusations were absolutely vile.

It got completely out of hand. No wonder it was taken down. It does NOT need to be re-instated. As a pp said, there were so many deleted comments that it won't make sense. IMO, there is no need to start a new thread either. Nothing new has been found, NOBODY on here knows any more than the police, and her family, and the conspiracy theories. and accusations are dangerous and damaging.

Bluebellwood129 · 11/02/2023 10:39

@PurpleButterflyWings I disagree about whether a new thread is needed. Other forums are managing to retain balanced discussed on the topic with diligent moderation. There's no reason why MN should be any different.

Bluebellwood129 · 11/02/2023 10:40

*discussion. No need for the use of capitals either.

The police helicopter has landed twice by the river at Garstang this morning (upstream from St Michael’s, so I’m not suggesting that the river is key). It could be nothing to do with Nikki, but it’s unusual.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 11/02/2023 10:52

@MissingMoominMamma so in the opposite direction to the weir?

TheHauntedPencilCase · 11/02/2023 10:52

I looked for post 7 this morning as i have been finding some comfort in the threads despite some attempts by posters to derail from the appropriate course. I haven't commented on them as I have nothing useful to say but disappointing to see it gone as I thought mumsnet were doing really well responding swiftly to reports and removing anything inappropriate. Only came here really to support the threads and thank @ofwarren for managing them, it's all very distressing (can't imagine what family are going through) and I've found it useful sharing the thread space with others who feel similarly unsettled by recent local events.

Yes, a few miles upstream, so going in the wrong direction. On the other side of the river is just countryside until you get to the M6. It may have nothing at all to do with Nikki, but both my neighbour and I wondered as it’s so unusual.

Yes, that is unusual isn't it
The police helicopter flies over often, going between Preston and Blackpool but its big news on local Facebook pages if it ever lands nearby.

People are treating this like some csi drama rather than it actually being about a poor family's hellish reality. All of the amateur armchair detectives is quite frankly disgusting. I'm glad mumsnet hae taken the threads down!

Well I disagree with you, and I AM entitled to my opinion.

And I WILL use capital letters whenever it suits me. You are NOT the forum police.

Totally agree with you. It would be beyond ludicrous if this was the only forum that it wasn’t allowed to be discussed. A woman missing, and a forum predominantly made up of female members. Of course we should be able to discuss.

i really don’t understand those salivatingly reading every word and kicking off saying we should be silenced. They must have stayed up late to do it too. And straight back on this morning drooling over it. Utter obsession.

You are not the forum police either, yet feel it appropriate to tell people what they can and cannot discuss.

I am stating my OPINION. That I don't believe there needs to be any more threads on this case. The one last night (Number SEVEN!) got ridiculously out of hand with some vile comments.

confounded234 · 11/02/2023 11:12

There seems to a be a fair amount of confusion now about what happened between 9.10 and when the police were called at around 11. Paul says he went there, started looking with other people then they called the police. The narrative before was that the person who found the phone told s family member who then rang the school at 10.50 who then immediately rang Paul. These 2 accounts don’t sound very compatible

Well many people disagree with you, and that's their OPINION too. Your OPINION doesn't trump theirs.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/02/2023 11:13

The problem, in addition to the speculative & voyeuristic posts, is that there has really nothing meaningful to say now - sadly, Nicola is missing for a period of weeks now, a resolution is unlikely to come soon, and the commentary (even when not intended to) is getting more bizarre and less based on any reality.

Posters cannot seem to understand that the police will have considerably more information than is available to the general public. They also persist in thinking these threads somehow 'help' the investigation. They do not.

100% this. ^ I am actually seriously disturbed and disgusted by all these threads tbh and the vile accusations and conspiracy theories from SOME posters, and hope mumsnet take any further threads down. NOTHING new has been found, and nobody on here knows ANYTHING about what happened, and yet they act like they are all know-alls and experts, and they know more than the police.

I shall bow out of this thread now. Said my piece, and any threads that come up that are started by this same poster, I shall instantly hide, as I find them quite distasteful and grim.

PurpleButterflyWings · 11/02/2023 11:15

And I shall start by hiding THIS thread!

confounded234 · 11/02/2023 11:16

Seems to a lot of mutistage announcing and flouncing going on….

LizzieSiddal · 11/02/2023 11:19

I saw the thread last night. There are some posters who seem to have very low comprehension skills (ie watched the documentary and misinterpret every little thing as an “clue” and decide to spew their unhinged theories in pubic. I’m very glad MNHQ have put a stop to it.

Fancysauce · 11/02/2023 11:19

These threads are unnecessary and just full of people picking apart every last detail like they think they're detectives or something, with no appreciation for the fact there is a real family who are missing nicola. There's nothing to be gained from armchair sleuths grubbing for every little detail.

confounded234 · 11/02/2023 11:21

Given the profound lack of confidence in the police investigation expressed by Paul, I think it’s important that in a democratic society there should be opportunities for the public to express doubts and expose holes in official narratives, so long as nothing libellous is mentioned. If the public can’t do that then we are heading towards authoritarianism where questions official narratives can result in punishment from the state. It’s a slippery slope
