please removed whatever script you have decided to put in place on AIBU, Chat and Brexit topics. It's choking typing to be 1/10th speed and making it nigh on impossible to type with any speed.

I'd guess it's part of a "bright idea" connected with similar threads. But it's shit and sub optimal.

Maybe get some grown up testers ? Because the kids missed this one.

It is awful this morning. I had to delete a sentence and watched the cursor literally click back one letter per second. It's making it impossible to post anything.

TrumptyDumpty · 12/01/2023 19:41

Exactly the same here! Freezing tabs and laptop fan firing up!

Yes! My fan sounds like it's going to leave my laptop and fly out the window and I've only got one tab open!

It only happens with Mumsnet.

I don't think they have any plans to sort it out tbh. So many reports of problems but so little action! I'm a premium subscriber and have been since that started, but fuck this for much longer. It's almost unusable and isn't anything like the same site experience I signed up to pay a fiver a month for!

Ask for your money back.

Hi all

We understand that this is frustrating but the only way to combat this at this moment in time, is to view less posts per page. We're still very much aware of the issue and looking into what's happening - so in the meantime, this is a workaround.

I have only ever had my phone set up to view the smallest amount of posts per page and still have the same issues. (Chrome, Android on Samsung phone).

DuplicateUserName · 15/01/2023 11:50

I'll start using pages with MNHQ stop deleting threads for ridiculous reasons, when I'm halfway through reading them.

It's like someone snatching a book out of your hands just because they can.

DuplicateUserName · 15/01/2023 11:50

*When

Justgivemehotchocolate · 15/01/2023 14:15

Im relieved to find out it not just me
Its happening on Laptop on Chrome and Ipad with Safari. I kept switching from one to the other thinking it was just that device.
Laggy typing and deleting, pages freezing, not loading, and most annoying pages refreshing randomly in the middle of writing a post and losing whats been written

Leela2 · 17/01/2023 19:33

Me too, laptop, Windows 10, Chrome. Thought my laptop was breaking but only happens on Mumsnet, so frustrated.

Peridot1 · 19/01/2023 09:10

I switched to 25 posts per page which is working better. BUT you can’t check back to the previous page while typing out a reply or you lose your reply! Just lost a long post on a regular thread I’m on. Very frustrating.

DuplicateUserName · 25/01/2023 19:00

Is this issue even close to being fixed yet @LilyMumsnet ?

There's a thread I want to read that's 800+ posts long.

I can barely read it (due to not all of it loading), I can't vote on it and I certainly can't post on it.

Why is this still happening?

Msgrieves · 25/01/2023 19:09

I switched to pages and still have to open each one in a new tab.

SerendipityJane · 25/01/2023 21:07

Is this issue even close to being fixed yet @LilyMumsnet ?

I'm sure when they start we'll know about it.

CarpyDiem · 26/01/2023 14:12

Even changing down to 25 posts per view I can't post on the threads I want to.

This is crap and worsening. It's crashed my browser twice and freezes repeatedly

It was fine on 1000 posts before the replatforming, and in the early days after.

Please restore your functionality.

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 28/01/2023 04:04

I think it's getting worse. And I can barely post on this thread to complain about it now! let alone the long running threads I am really enjoying.

SerendipityJane · 28/01/2023 09:30

Tempting to link this thread into the promoted on plugging the "pay for Mumsnet" ones that are cluttering up the feed.

Incidentally, this is why professionally and personally I rarely pay for something as ephemeral as a website or "app". Very few manage to survive more than a few months before breaking and never being fixed. And there goes your money. Not so bad if you are subscribing at $5 a month. But quite lawyer-sapping if you paid £2,000 upfront for a year and it's been broken for 11 months of them.

I note with interest that it's websites and "apps" that are supposed to fuel the UK's stratospheric recovery. Not with consumer law the way it is they won't.

I'm learning flint-knapping. It's where it will all be in 10 years time.

I'm pretty good at green woodworking and clay work op. Want to join forces?

I've been on MN for 20yrs and back then, clunky tech had no problem with long pages. None of the crap that's been going on since the last update and they had actual Tech who popped up and told us what they were doing and fixed it quickly.

Switch to 25 pages has been the refrain for months on end. No ta. It's getting worse on an almost daily basis.

SerendipityJane · 28/01/2023 17:24

Luckily I'm quite OK for various reasons. However, if I was relying on MN to preserve any personal details in safety, I'm not so sure I'd have any confidence, if they can't get the site working to even a low standard.

Not that I would voice such opinions aloud, you understand.

Working with stone, wood and clay may be the future. Who knew ?

@LilyMumsnet @MattTech @CarolineMumsnet

Is there any chance of a rough time estimate for when this is going to be fixed?

It's getting absolutely ridiculous. I can't load any thread that has more than about 200 posts as it's so slow and then crashes/freezes and it doesn't matter what device I use!

It might not be so frustrating if HQ were a bit more communacative about it.

SerendipityJane · 31/01/2023 20:25

FOJN · 01/02/2023 11:06

So I've switched to 25 posts per page, I only ever used 100 posts per page anyway, and it seems to have resolved the infuriating typing issues but I'm still having to reload any page I've left for more than a minute which is really bloody annoying if I was in the middle of typing a post and left the page to get a link.

Are we any closer to having an adequately functional MN?

MayThe4th · 01/02/2023 11:17

I’ve always had it set to 25 posts per page and have had the same issues, (using safari on iPhone).

Whoever designed this site must be laughing all the way to the bank.

I read somewhere that it took three years to design the update. And we ended up with this….?

thewinterwitch · 01/02/2023 11:22

It's often like wrestling with an octopus to type a simple post. Memory usage is insane sometimes. Such a pity as it all worked very well before the "upgrade".

SerendipityJane · 01/02/2023 13:33

Whoever designed this site must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Judging from the styling of the site they'll have been paid in groats.

LilyMumsnet · 01/02/2023 17:23

Hi all

We know this is an issue that many of you are frustrated with, and so we wanted to give you a more detailed response explaining where we're currently at with this.

We can absolutely assure you that we are in the process of trying fixing this. But it’s proving to be more complicated than it appears.

When you view 1,000 posts per page, it shows x40 more data compared to just 25 posts per page. This extra information along with other features added since Talk transformation can be too much for some devices, causing them to crash.
We know this isn’t the perfect solution by any means, but 25 posts per page is the best solution we have right now.

We're working with a third party to try to resolve the problem as a priority but truthfully we don't know how long it will take to find a solution at this point.

DuplicateUserName · 01/02/2023 18:12

Thanks for the update @LilyMumsnet

I'll reluctantly give pages a try for now and scream when I refresh, only to find the thread's been deleted again
