please removed whatever script you have decided to put in place on AIBU, Chat and Brexit topics. It's choking typing to be 1/10th speed and making it nigh on impossible to type with any speed.

I'd guess it's part of a "bright idea" connected with similar threads. But it's shit and sub optimal.

Maybe get some grown up testers ? Because the kids missed this one.

Just because it's not happening on other sites - that is either luck // the fact that the other sites are doing something slightly differently

Once the bug is discovered it's usually posted up somewhere so other web sites can find it when needed

Same here - pages freezing, always having to reload. I use see all pages too and it does particularly happen on long threads. Chrome on android here.

I'm using Chrome and mumsnet often freezes my screen. I have to turn off my chromebook, leave it for 10 mins then turn it back on. It never happens on any other site and only started happening a few months ago. It's also very slow recently, sometimes taking a minute to wait for the next page.

I have been having all these problems for some time. I changed from view all to pages in the hope that it would fix the issues but it hasn't. Typing is painfully slow, and the site crashing if you come back to an open tab later is irritating. We are all using really common devices and browsers. I am using Chrome on Samsung.

MNHQ do you have any suggestions to fix the problems some of us seem to be having?

I thought we weren't seeing any responses because of the Christmas holidays but I can see you have responded to other threads.

Is there a fix or is this just how MN is now? Hoping for a solution thanks in advance.

Updating (and bumping) to report that I'm having absolutely no issue using MN on my (Windows) laptop with Edge. The issue for me is isolated to Chrome on my Android phone. Shame the laptop is a work one, and I'm not paid to be on MN all day!

I've known man+dog websites do better tech support. There are a host of virtual machines I could spin up to demonstrate it's this site and not "the internet" that are the issue. But that would simply be duplicating the testing MNHQ must have done.

I would have been more inclined to help if it was clear that I was the only user affected. But since I'm not, it's clearly a more systemic issue.

Interesting suggestions that Edge isn't affected but Chrome is, since they both use the same rendering engine on windows. Any Firefox, Opera or Brave users out that. Also no mention of Safari.

I mean we all want a 64Gb machine, but just to run MN ?

A poster upthread mentioned issues using Edge.

I'm OK on Edge but that's on a super locked down, government issue laptop, they wouldn't be letting through any guff that would slow down performance.

(Posting because we seem to have a better chance of fixing this amongst ourselves than getting MN's attention!).

Sorry you've been left without an update here and thanks for all the information shared. It looks like this is now a problem on any longer thread and not just Brexit, AIBU and chat. If I've got that wrong, let us know. In the meantime, I'm just checking where we are with this.

The site is almost unusable. Although I do appear to be able to type at a normal speed on this thread. I'm having many of the same problems as everyone else. Some are new and some have persisted since the site was "upgraded".

Slow typing.

Pages taking so long to load it's quicker to shut a tab down and open a new one.
Wrong threads opening which I thought was just me but it seemed to be happening more than usual for fat fingers and now I see someone else is having the same problem.
Pages don't scroll or do so with the banner from the bottom scrolling up the screen too.
Cut and paste is painful, you can highlight text and then you may or may not get the option to cut, if you do it takes ages for the option to appear on screen.

I'm using a Lenovo tablet with 64GB, 32% used, chrome and android 11. I clear browsing history and cookies regularly but it makes no difference.

The thread title sums up my frustration.

Exactly this, but android phone on chrome. Phone has all the latest updates.

Also, now when you leave MN open in a browser for any length of time, it crashes the tab, and you have to close it and reload - just reloading isn't enough. Didn't used to do this.

This has been the same for me for weeks (Chrome - Windows 10 laptop).

It's only ever MN that it happens on and also after a few minutes, my fans start going mental even on short threads with just one tab open.

@CarolineMumsnet all this is happening to me too (latest android version, chrome) - slow typing, slow deleting but the most irritating is the pages freezing when you come back into them (and also going right back to the beginning - I'm also on 'see all' and don't generally remember to bookmark because in the past I could come back to where I was on a page seamlessly.)
I always keep an MN tab open but this is becoming increasingly frustrating. When I come back to the tab it completely freezes, none of the buttons like active or I'm on work, it's quickest to close the tab and open a new one and again irritating if you're midway through an unsaved or unbookmared thread.
Even typing here in this short thread is soooo slow.
This has been going on a few weeks for me.

A cynic would note that since MN starting squeezing both ends of the toothpaste tube, problems have multiplied, as has the time to sort them.

Thank god its not just me having the wrong thread open, it's usually 2 threads below the one I clicked on, sometimes the thread that opens is not even on the screen, so not a misclick.

It's still as glitchy as fuck, crashes Edge, really slow to type, sometimes won't post (the list goes on)

It's not that long since you replatformed, that was going to improve things.

I was on classic before (1000 posts per thread) and want the site to at least meet its performance before that change and be useable at 1000 posts.

Now, we've been banging on about this for weeks.

Does it really take that long to fix?

How much do you value you (unpaid) content generators? Enough to give them a site that works as well as before the (disastrous from this pov) upgrade

A bouquet to balance the brickbats is that MN is the only site I know of that seems to get that providing a namechange feature is something that allows women to debate freely. To the extent that I use it as a (admittedly crude) idiot trap in discussion. If you don't get it then you are the reason it's needed.

I really liked that about MN too.

The workaround is to type into notepad (other basic text editors are available) and then just cut and paste into the MN textarea. Which is a(nother) clue as it pastes instantly. Presumably a poster noted for cut and pasting was asked to test it ?

Testing cut and paste from a Google doc to see if it works as it should.

And it does and now we're back to snails pace typing! Deep joy.

We're so sorry the site is causing issues. You may have heard this before, but can we check you have tried clearing your cache and cookies, are viewing 25 posts per page and that your browser/app is up to date? Flowers

Same here, and I don't have it set on "see all", just 100 posts per page. I'm using a Sony android phone with Chrome.
