please removed whatever script you have decided to put in place on AIBU, Chat and Brexit topics. It's choking typing to be 1/10th speed and making it nigh on impossible to type with any speed.

I'd guess it's part of a "bright idea" connected with similar threads. But it's shit and sub optimal.

How do we get it through to MNHQ that if we wanted pages of 25 posts, we would have chosen that in the first place.

That 1000 posts worked well enough before the "upgrade" and should be made to work now.

That there have been various threads before this one, especially over the last three months, when the issue worsened.

What has actually been done in the last, say, 3 months to fix this?

It's only MN that crashes Edge, and only MN that is slow and cranky. And we've been telling you this for months.

What is your target timeframe for getting this properly fixed?

All the people whinging here (oneself included 😀) have to remember that MN is a commercial operation whose primary aim is to make money by serving adverts.

None of the issues described here are preventing that (see my inspection screenshot) so as far as the mission of MN goes, there isn't a problem.

That may seem overly cynical, but the facts don't contradict it, although alternative explanations do exist. Some with the word "incompetence" in use.

It would be interesting to know by a show of hands if any of the posters here are premium or not ?

I'm well aware in the fast moving world (that I helped design) it's impossible to develop-test-release. Especially when you have a myriad of frameworks (i.e. "Other peoples work") underpinning your code (have you seen how much javascript gets loaded ?). However given these problems are endemic and clearly immune to the previous few weeks of releases at least, there are already a few clues.

But at this stage the problem isn't technical. It's commercial. So I suspect the answer to my question upthread will be a majority if not unanimous "no".

What do we do if we don't want to switch to pages?
I have this issue on any thread above about 300 posts so not even long ones (iPhone 11, safari) but I don't want to switch to pages. Can you fix it for whole thread view please?

Nothing says "good morning" better than MN repeatedly crashing Edge - twice in quick succession this morning, requiring me to restart computer as it blacked everything.

You get long, lively threads but make it impossible to join in reliably. Can you please expedite getting the (pre-replatforming) stability of longer page views back? You kept these in Classic because of user demand. You still have the sane users (ie content generators) here and asking for the status quo ante

What discussion board says you have to limit your page to 25 posts to be able to even work? I get the pages will take longer to load but it should not crash, lose my posts mid-way, take forever to load, then freeze within minutes.

I hate to say this but mn, you got to sort your tech shit out. This started after the upgrade to give us more ads. Well that works.

I'd like to understand exactly what you're seeing because I haven't been able to replicate the issues you mention.

Since I have arrived at the ITIL phase of being able to work around the issue, the fix is now more of an academic exercise for me.

Also, as this thread shows, others are having similar if not identical issues. I suspect when theirs are sorted, mine will be.

I'm using Chrome on Windows10 and it's been achingly slow for weeks now, plus crashes all the time - I often get memory exceeded messages.

I have my preferences set to 100 posts a page, and while I understand what you're saying about setting to 25, I don't want that! And it used to work perfectly fine with the 100 page posts, so something has definitely changed in the last few weeks or couple of months.

@SerendipityJane what is your workaround? What is ITIL?

My app (android) has started crashing for no reason. Just closes in the middle of reading a thread. Along with the ridiculousness of laptop chrome (windows 10).

The workaround is to type your reply into a text editor, and paste the whole lot into the MN text box. Also don't leave tabs open. Close and relaunch to refresh a page.

Serendipity, thanks for clarifying. I have been resorting to a similar less-techie workaround of sorts.

I type my reply in Googlemail drafts and then paste it into the MN text box, having just re-opened that mn thread so that it is fresh.

But I have to be quick and hope I can use the MN formatting in time to post before the MN page freezes or crashes, which can happen right up to and including the time I hit POST.

If I lose, I can go back to Gmail drafts to recover the text of the message and try again, if I can be bothered. Often I cannot.

Frustrating and a waste of my time.

I've been having similar issues for months. Tabs crashing or freezing when I go back to them and having to reload constantly. Not loading properly so page is blank, etc.

Extremely laggy/delayed typing and deleting which started more recently.
Only happens on MN. I'm using Samsung mobile site, android, Windows 10, I think. I'm not a premium user. Puts me off using the site, tbh.

I do use the 1000 posts and I don't want to go to 40 pages, or whatever. I like having it all on one page. It's ridiculous that this no longer works.
